Early Access Review
Outlast trials is a co-op multiplayer game where up to 4 players can play mission based trials that involve executing snitches, grinding children, or being forced to play amusement park games to earn tickets to freedom.

While there isn’t a full story like the previous outlast games there is a short story told through the mission that you have to compete .The introduction also has a short story of how you ended up on the trials to begin with. Inside the missions you will also find evidence folders that contain more lure to give you more insight on the project you are being used for.

Inside the mission you will be met with various tasks of finding keys, powering generators, looking for missing ingredients, disabling gates and doors, killing key targets, hacking off limbs, and a variety of other things.
You will be chased by enemies who can stab you, punch you, infect you with gas that causes you to go mental, electrocute you, and a sock puppet thay will drill through your face. There really no end to the multiple ways you can die here, and almost all the enemies can execute you so you will need a revive to continue playing.

Each map is very large and takes about 30min or longer to complete the first time. Each map has different missions to choose and each has their own layout of that map so you aren’t seeing the same area for 5 different missions. It’s very well done how they keep things familiar but make it different.

When not playing trials you are placed into the hub which is like a prison block where you can decorate your room and level up skills to your character and set different optional skills and offensive tools depending on your play style like healing or placing traps to slow or blind enemies.

So far this game is extremely good and does what it does well while keeping you on the move for fast paced horror action or slow stealthy sneaking.

I played this on steam deck and the game is very optimized and maintains 50-60fps all the time with ultra textures and medium everything else using FSR 2

8.5/10
