CAVEAT: Sony has reversed their recently made stupid decision so the following is no longer an issue. You can play the game on STEAM with no account linking and no security risks. I will still leave the below rant though just so that people can see what happened in case they want to.

Sony has recently made the decision to KILL this game by requiring you to link your Steam account with a Playstation Network account--of which the Playstation Network has countless data breaches to date--by June 4th, 2024. If a steam account with Helldivers 2 is linked with the Playstation Network through the game (it has kernel-level permissions on PC), hackers can remotely access said PC while the game is running and inject any kind of malicious code or steal any kind of data they want. Also, many, many regions across the world DON'T have access to the PSN but DO have access to the Steam network, so those players cannot play the game despite it being sold to them for $45 USD on Steam. There are also reports of many players trying to get around this by using a VPN, but having their Helldivers 2 accounts terminated and losing all account progress and access to the game THEY PAID FOR because VPNs are against Sony's PSN EULA. A review-bombing, refund, and boycott campaign has begun against this game for the many server-side issues the game has been plagued with from launch that have STILL not been fixed to this day, the unfair account terminations without refund, and Sony's recent decision. Even though this campaign will hurt the development team and game-studio (Arrowhead) behind this game way more than the publisher Sony, there is no other feasible way for the massive community built-up around this game to have their voices heard. Please support this campaign by getting a refund if possible, leaving a negative review on the store page with this information mentioned in the review, spreading the word, uninstalling the game if you already have it, and not playing the game, buying this game, linking accounts, or spending money on microtransactions until the decision is reversed by Sony.

"The Ministry of Truth has requested that this un-democratic behaviour CEASE immediately and has declared it a threat to Managed Democracy."

It isn't perfect, no game is, and it isn't life-changing (at least for me), but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ was it a good game. The true ending, no matter which one you pick in the end, is phenomenal. The characters are all phenomenal, to the point that no-one is a side-character in this game. The creators of this game have somehow made every character integral to the story, including YOU, and they all drive the plot in their own way. The twists are genuinely surprising, if not spoiled, and the game really makes you hate the one character who has done the most for YOU without turning them into the next surprise Disney villain for the fiftieth time. This was an absolutely amazing story, and it even manages to stay in your head after playing it. What's crazier is that the main story of the game isn't only driven by the characters, this isn't a movie, but it's more than just a video game. YOU are the reason everything happens, YOU are the key drive for the plot, the only way the plot even moves forward past the first ending is because of YOUR desire for the plot to continue, it doesn't just start you in the next chapter. YOU have to actively go looking for the plot, and when you do, I promise that you will not be disappointed.

Just remember that the Steam version of the game is censored, and some of the censored scenes contain key information for understanding the plot and its trajectory. There is an uncensored patch on JAST USA's website for the Steam version, although the Steam patch is about $3.99. If you get the game from JAST USA's store, the game comes uncensored, but it costs a little bit extra on their website. So the cost is pretty much the same either way you go about it.

Even if you aren't a fan of the Visual Novel genre, this may be the one Visual Novel that would interest you as it doesn't start slow, like most do, with a long exposition (despite the game icon when downloaded). This Visual Starts off at 100 and slows down only at the beginning-middle-ish part, so I know you won't be bored. It introduces the characters in an interesting way, and reveals the main plot devices without you ever realising they are plot devices until it is too late. Even the most ordinary of things, like a can of tomato juice, turns out to be a staple of multiple timelines, and they can even be found in the true ending. This is one of the few games I would almost give a "must-play" rating to, but I don't feel like any game is a "must-play", so I can't. If you want an interesting game that will leave you wanting, and regretting, more as you play, then this is the perfect game.
