Jesus ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Christ, this game has SOOOO many issues. The UI has been made worse across the board and the servers are incredibly laggy. Also, I swear the enemy AI has been made worse as they'll often either try to shoot people through walls, stand still not doing anything, or they'll walk off of edges to their death.

Multiplayer is terrible because of the lag and netcode issues. Honestly, just buy the originals. They're cheaper, better, and actually function correctly

I have a lot of respect for what this game was able to accomplish and the innovations it made to the genre, but actually playing it nowadays is not a great experience. Human enemies are way too bullet-spongey, (As in they take half a magazine from the SMG or five close range blasts from a shotgun to kill) and their AI isn't very good. Alien enemies are definitely better though and can be kinda fun, but the combat as a whole isn't very deep or interesting. There are "puzzles" but I can only think of one that was actually engaging. There are also several platforming sections which might have been good if the platforming controls weren't so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slippery. God help you when you get to Xen, which has got to be one of the worst levels I've ever played in an FPS game from terrible platforming sections, enemies that take forever to kill, and easily the worst final boss in any video game I've played. Story isn't anything amazing but it's fine enough.

The game isn't completely terrible, I did have some fun with it, but everything it does has been done since and done way better. If you're interested in seeing how this game was as a historical piece of gaming history, then there's some appeal in that, and the game is still pretty cheap, but I don't think I'm ever going to play this game a second time.

The fact that this wasn't nominated for best indie game of 2023 is an absolute crime. The combat feels amazing and it's not overly bloated like many modern games are. It combines the great enemy AI of F.E.A.R. with a faster paced combat loop similar to Wolfenstein: The New Order and adds cool abilities on top of it. The combat simulator rounds out the package making it an excellent game for any fan of shooters to try out

If there were an option for "This game is great but you should get it somewhere other than Steam," I would use it. This game provides an insanely fun gameplay experience, but the fact that the only way to buy this game on Steam is through a bundle is a severe problem. Either wait for the bundle to go for a deep discount, or get it on GOG.

The only other thing to note is that you'll need dinput8.dll if running the game on a modern machine to fix the performance.

Well as the developers promised, a skirmish AI is now in the game and it's actually really good (unless you get a predominantly naval map). Now that my one reservation with this game has been resolved, I can now wholeheartedly recommend this game as it's genuinely fun. Controls are definitely unusual, but this game is a ton of fun with friends and now it's also very fun in singleplayer.

The game itself is amazing and is a top tier Call of Duty game.

However, I cannot recommend buying it because for some reason, it's still $40 in 2022, Eleven years after the game launched, and that's not even including the DLC which will run you another $50 or so.

If you can get the game + its DLC on sale for a decent price, then I'd recommend, but OMG Activision, LOWER THE DAMN PRICE
