War on the Sea is a terrific game, but unfortunately lacks a lot of key components for the proper finish you'd expect from a 2021 release.

First and foremost, performance. I use a GP66 MSI Leopard gaming laptop with pretty up-to-date specs in all areas. I play War Thunder, Call To Arms: CTA, Hearts of Iron, and a number of other games on average and often above average graphics settings with absolutely no problems to my FPS or heat control. However, I find that War on the Sea is the only game I play on a regular basis that my computer struggles to run healthily. I use the lowest possible graphics settings on the game and yet still, my poor GP66 heats up hot enough to fry eggs. I find it awfully strange and it has led me to believe that there are some performance issues on behalf of the game that should be fixed up in the near future. One thing that would help is an option to limit FPS in-game, among possibly some other forms of dynamic graphics settings as currently the options are lacklustre.

Graphics aren't the only disappointing feature of War on the Sea. Despite there being some of the most creative fan content available for use online, the Steam Workshop remains inoperable for this game. It simply breaks my heart and, at times, makes me not want to even play the game. Whatever limitations preventing the Steam Workshop from being applicable to War on the Sea should be overcome as soon as possible, as the current methods in downloading extra content are tedious and unfamiliar to many individuals such as myself. It is irksome to understand that the developers are aware of this but instead promote the current method, rather than to try and make the game content more accessible through Steam, or just adding this content into the base game itself, or making it a purchasable DLC.

Currently, War on the Sea lacks serious content and there are only two Campaigns available by default (Campaigns being the primary playing mode). There are many single battle scenarios but these can even be reconstructed using the custom battle mode, so the overall unique content (that is actually in the game) is limited. On a lesser note, the attention-to-detail isn't the best (sailors cannot even be seen on your warships), the sound design is awful and the music abysmal, and the game is really easy to beat overall. Even on total Elite difficulty, the game and the AI become extremely predictable. There is a lot to be sought after in the areas of balancing, game design, AI behaviour, combat sequencing, and in the points/rewards system. War on the Sea feels like it is in Early Access, or that it is in some kind of early development, but it's not.

It is not in my best interests to attack this game. I've become addicted to it in some ways, but my desire for some decent content and features has made given me a more disappointing attitude towards it. I truly hope within the year most of these issues are addressed.

Great game - 8.2 out of 10.

So I got this game around a couple weeks ago (Writing as of April 9th 2021) and I have to say I quite like it. Coming from someone who has never played Tarkov or DayZ, I still really appreciate it. It does have many bugs, but that is to be understood following the circumstances of its current release. In case your unaware, this game is really simple; you spawn in a large map, loot and look for equipment (Guns, backpacks, vests etc...) and take on the A.I and occasionally, players. The graphics are pretty decent (I've got a GTX 1050 on a 2018 gaming laptop, and I can run the game pretty well) and the effects are good too. The AI is, contrary to what I've seen in other reviews, relatively smart. They are aggressive and have great aim, although this depends on what type of AI your dealing with (There are soldiers and marauders). The gunplay is realistic and I enjoy it, but its very difficult to hit your targets, especially with snipers (Weapon sway in this game is nausea inducing). I hope they add some cool weapon customisation, as right now its pretty limited. I have little experience in fighting against players but I have to say, even with the best armour available in the game, you die way to quick. There are no driveable vehicles available, but I can see you guys adding them in a coming update. I understand the game is in its early stages, but the building is incredibly bland and mostly pointless. There are really only 2 real purposes for a base; Storage and a stronghold to defend in. Overall, cool game that I personally enjoy.
