This game is considered a 2D minecraft by most people who haven't played it based on its looks once you spawn. While you may chop down trees and mine iron for first 5 minutes in both games, this is where minecraft really stops and once you have diamond armor there is not much left to really do, unless you are using mods or playing server games, which is not really specific to the main game.

Terraria is a fun game where you power yourself through exploring and fighting challenging bosses.
What makes it so good that people easily spend hundreds and even thousands of hours playing it?
- Rather than being an endless same world, every part of the map is generated carefully, and they all have different reasons to explore them, such as unique loot, bosses and enemies.
- As you progress throughout the game the map changes along with your character, creating entirely new events with new drops.
- The game has a huge variety of weapons that feel crisp to use, allowing you to adapt based on your preferred playstyle. You want to be a tanky melee warrior? You got it. Want safety of long range ? It's there. Do you prefer killing armies of enemies as an aoe mage, or perhaps making your own armies as a summoner? It's all possible depending on your choice.
- Furthermore there's many accessories that let you customize your mobility, defense and damage, with all the fun of finding your ideal builds
- Huge difference in power and fluidity of your character the more you play. Eventually in late game you will feel like a god, but it will still all feel like you earned it and the game will still find ways to challenge even the strongest players.

And this is all just if you are playing the most standard singleplayer game. You can also teamup with your friends and fight bosses together, and there is million ways to mess around. The game also has pretty impressive building with huge variety of materials available, with people posting extremely impressive builds every day.

In the end, if you get tired of all of this, you may resort to public servers that host a variety of minigames or hundreds of mods, with couple of big ones that flip the whole game upside-down and extend the playtime even further.

Still not sure about buying it? While it's already a full 10€ game with no microtransactions that has more content than actual AAA titles, it still goes on sale pretty often on top of that. So even if you're not sure about buying it, a common 50% sale might just be enough to change your mind :)

Overall it's a really amazing game with surprisingly a lot of depth, and i'd recommend anyone to at least try it for a bit before accusing it of anything. It's arguably way more than worth for it's price.
