I bought the game to play coop after watching it for a while and hesitating after the initial mixed review status.
I can now say for sure that this is a game that I hope sticks around for a while.

The combat is fluid, and responsive to both camera movements for quick turnarounds, dodging, and ability usage. The combination of 2D comic-like assets with the stylized realism makes for a fun looking game that doesn't get boring. I like the method of gradient map customization, different styles of armor (I do wish the starter armor had some benefits) and the fact that any class and character can use any weapon. I look forward to 1.0 with hope that the game and community stays alive. Coop hasn't been a problem through steam invites.

My only complaint is performance issues which happen when loading into an area, even with my settings cranked down and my GPU not being that old (2080 RTX i believe, I know the 20 line wasn't that good it was just what I could get at the time) but the performance in this case has been far more problematic than other recent titles.

I absolutely adore the concept of this game, the art, the music, everything. And I know it is early access but multiplayer is borderline non-functional. Time freezes for one or more of us who aren't the host, and it's unplayable. When the game does function (not for more than 3-4 days in our experience) its great. But please fix multiplayer! Hoping for more quality of life like money counting in Stardew as well.
I hope this game gets better, especially in the multiplayer aspect.

Code Vein as someone who’s only goal was to play a cool looking game with a friend-

No. The combat system, while understandable isn’t something I favor. The larger weapons are unbearably slow, and dodging is nearly impossible. When enemies take 1/3 of your HP per hit using a cool looking battle axe just isn’t worth it. The gun doesn’t work well, you cant do anything with it unless you’re focused on the target and that makes the movement capability even worse. Spent at least an hour customizing, played two hours of the story and still didn’t end up playing with my friend. Ended up getting too frustrated at poor environmental design and save point placement, and refunded.

The character design is so much fun, but not worth $60.
