This is an S tier game folks. I remember first playing and saying to myself: "Its been a long time since I played a game I just kept coming back to." This was before the glory of mods. Vanilla was that good but then we have the heavily integrated and live modding community that allows you to spec your lobbies to how you want to play, though primarily for single player only as the integration is not the best but if you knew work arounds, its a glorious time.
I have spent 90% of my hours hosting 3x bug lobbies (3x enemy spawn quantity) plus MANY other mods and it just never gets old. I am practically a GM at this point for my lobby. 2745 hours in and I just want more of this game.
The community is amazing and non-toxic, the devs have done a stellar job to make cooperation the optimal way to play, even though I am an ancient gray beard, any greenbeard is utmost welcomed in my Certified Hell Hole lobby.
The devs are legendary, having everything an indle dev team has for all the soul and passion and they show no signs of changing this mood.

Pick up this game. Its a great time. Surely you have heard so much about it already and all you have heard is justified. Even if you have no idea about mods, the vanilla game is stellar. I only play modded as I want more and could get more. But you can easily dump hundreds of hours of this game playing only vanilla, heck, for even just playing SOLO, which is exactly what I did for season 1 and 2 to their end.
