Update: This game sucks
Update 2: This game still sucks
Update 3 || Witch Queen Initial Review: Best expansion this franchise has ever had. Waiting to see how the raid and post raid content stack up
Update 4: This game sucks
2024 Update: Poor Management ruined one of my favorite games. Sad to see it in this state

TLDR:
Game has obvious flaws, but the flaws are heavily outweighed by the rest of the game. Fantastic game, and I recommend it heavily. Score ratings for game and DLC below review. Also, there will be obvious grammar and spelling errors inside of this review. I am not smart, I just want to give my opinions on this game. :)

PROLOGUE:

First off, I have been a Destiny player since launch of Destiny 1. I have played the game through its highs, and talked ♥♥♥♥ about the game during its lows. Destiny 2 has been no exception, with the majority of my opinions on this game being negative. However, Beyond Light has rekindled the flame in my soul for this franchise. After the rough year we had with Shadowkeep, BL revitalized the format, using the best of the past and eliminating most of the negatives. There are still some very present negatives, such as no split sandbox, hackers, seasonal activities being vaulted, and so on. These negatives are outweighed by the positives.

STORY:
The lore has always been a massive problem for me. Destiny always seemed to open new doors and never close them. Who is the darkness? Why did the girl say she had no time to explain? What is an ahamkara? These were all questions that I had, and they were all eventually answered, but it took years. You could go and read the grimoire on destiny 1 to find out, but these aspects were part of the story, and not everyone wanted to analyze lore tabs like they were an English major. I am really enjoying how they are handling the lore now though. It is in the game, we see all our questions being answered in real time, and it is fantastic.

GAMEPLAY:
Destiny has always kept me around because of the gunplay. There is no equal in terms of how the game feels to play. It is just magical. Content wise, the game struggles. There is a seasonal system set in stone where content gets cycled in and out, with some of the new content just being reskins. I usually have no problem with this, but the reskinned content is expected to last months, when it only really lasts a week. For hardcore grinders, this becomes a problem and can lead to burnout. They try to keep it fresh through the use of timegated content being unlocked, which I actually prefer.

PVP:
This used to be my main attraction to the game series. I used to run carries back on the PS4 in 2015-2017. This changed when D2 came out, as the gameplay was completely redefined, and then redefined again and again. The sandbox was constantly shifting and the mechanics of the game were constantly shifting. I struggled to find my stance in this gamemode, and still do. Overall the PVP can be a very fun experience, but this is one of the most competitive shooters that I have seen. You don't hear about it really at all, but the amount of work people put into grinding this game to become the best they can possibly be is very fun to see, and many people put in this effort. However, when you constantly match these people and get dunked on, it can be annoying. Plus the introduction of the new STASIS subclass has really stretched my willingness to play. Overall a plus.

PVE:
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ FANTASTIC. There isn't much to do, but this is a prime example of quality over quantity. The raids are masterpieces for the most part. These 6 man activities force groups to work together, improvise, and overcome some of the most challenging content in the game. The feeling of throwing yourself at a bossfight for 5 hours and finally beating it is a feeling that is magical. The only problem I have is the lack of difficulty in normal gameplay. You either get one shot, or you mow down bosses, with no inbetween. Most bosses are bulletsponges, which are usually melted anyways, and interesting mechanics are somewhat void.

GRAPHICS:
Theres not a lot to say here. It has it's moments to shine, and when it does, it really blows you away.

MUSIC:
This game has one of my favorite OSTs of all time. The music is constantly getting better too!

OVERALL VERDICT:
Base game (no dlc): 7/10
Forsaken: 9/10
Shadowkeep: 6/10
Beyond Light: 8/10
Full game with dlc: 8.5/10
