The base game is easy to understand and has an intriguing combat system. The ability to fight your battles in first and third person is what I appreciate the most. The thing that kept me playing for so many hours is the ability to reshape the world in a sandbox environment. This is best done with all the great mods that can be found on both the steam workshop and online browsers. There are several big overhaul projects that still receive active development. The 'Realm of Thrones' mod is certainly worth mentioning.

The downside to using mods is that it can be hard to find a stable build. Some mods can crash the game when combined with other mods. This incompatibility isn't always discovered upon starting a new world. You could play for hours before you run into the error. However once it has occurred you may corrupt your save file and start all over again.

Overall a great game with many possibilities through mods. I eventually got around the trouble by downloading a beta version of the game (1.2.8). Then I downloaded the version of the mods that indicated to be compatible with the beta version off the web. After the installation I ran some tests and found a stable build. Note that some mods simply won't work together, so keep it light and find the incompatible mod if you do get a error.
