This game just BSOD'd me with CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED, this should be enough to ward off anyone trying to experience one of the better Facebook games back in the day




This game, specifically this web app for the global version, is suffering from technical bug purgatory, and most of them are related to the combat. Here's a non-exhaustive list of the most common ones, sorted in the logical order of playing the game:

  • Game will get stuck trying to load the title screen ........50% of the time
  • Game will get stuck trying to load into the main menu/lobby ........50~60% of the time
  • Parts of combat UI becomes for a plethora of reasons below ........80% of the time
    • Deck will not shuffle and deal cards at start of combat, leading to a softlock
    • Cards are not drawn at start of combat, so you can't play any cards
    • The center part of combat UI, which includes the 4 buttons of move phase, won't respond for an uncertain amount of time, which can prevent you from moving, resting or switching characters
    • The center part of combat UI will desync from the flow of combat
    • Cards won't react to your input on a whim, so you can't play cards visually and/or functionally
  • Game will get stuck trying to show the combat result screen ........15% of the time
  • Game will get stuck trying to show a pop-up window of the reward you got after combat ........20% of the time
  • Game's background map will be brought to front after combat, like it's z-layer got overriden, leading to a softlock ........30% of the time

But that's not all! There are also kinks from the technology they used to make this web app:

  • Game will create a new tray icon every time you lauch the game, which you'll do a lot to get through the bugs
  • Game's window size is fixed, which looks super small on the standardized 1920x1080 screen

I've dabbled a bit on web development as a hobby, and nw.js, the framework they use for this web app, is not very popular when compared to Electron, which limits how much community support you can get should you encounter problems during development. Also, nw.js' version number haven't reached v1.0.0, which implies a few things, but I'll refrain from commenting on this as I foresee the consequences

This game has a JP version hosted on dmm, not sure how stable it is as I don't have the means to playtest. Food for thought



I wrote this review only because of my gripes with the technical side of the game. I'm not giving my thoughts on the gameplay because I'm biased with nostalgia, but this game is very grindy with no pity system in place, so

A good introduction into the Persona series.

Combat is its weakest spot. There's not enough "depth" for it to be as interesting as others, but it helps new players understand the general strategy.
