Picked this one since we don't have much games out there like L.A. Noire, where you can play the cop role.
That one give me some CSI vibes, but while the idea it's amazing, the execution is a very poor one.

The Investigation mechanics is there just to fill space, since we can't solve cases, arrest or make much of anything related to detective work, like we do in L.A. Noire.
Most of the time it's just you taking pictures of evidence backed with some comment on the screen about them, followed by combat with npc's, and the combat mechanics lack variety, since most of the meele weapons are very similar in moves, I also find the combat stance during gameplay a bit clumsy.

At least the story it's good? Nope, a lot of elements are throw inside of the story, out of nowhere, and left unexplained, or doesn't even makes sense, to put short, they even bring supernatural elements into the story, while most of the characters remains undeveloped. Plot armor, deus ex machina, plot holes, characters that have their introduction inside of the story, but gets lost inside of it.

Mechanics, plot, everything on this one sucks, a true shame this game didn't get to be a good cop/detective title.
My advice is avoid this one, or if you can, get a refund, like i'm doing.

☣ Don't Buy Open
Dead Game Inside ☣

You have given money for a copy of their game, and also spend time into it to test for them, but that doesn't matter at all for them.
Lock your thread and ban you? That is a show of respect for a costumer trying to give feedback? It's a good showing of power being abused.

☠EDIT 1: Let's see, Jake is a customer, who paid money for their product, then asked for a refund of it, and also give feedback about his experience with the game. No insults or use of low words from Jake part, as we can see on the print here, and now let's see the Moderator Enigma reaction towards it here.

☠Uptade 1: I wonder if the devs were bullied too much at school? or at that time they already liked bullying others at school? Why such doubt? Just look at that print.
Not even questioning them is allowed, check the print to see what happened to whoever did it.

Now let's consider some things. They didn't locked down that thread, Enigma and other Indie Stone staff are still "kicking the dead horse" there, on a standart situation like that, they should have locked down the heated topic to defuse the situation, but they aren't impartial, they give a ban to Jake, without him doing any insults, just because the guy said he didn't liked the game and refunded it, and also didn't liked how the moderator behaves towards the customers who gives any negative feedback about the game on the forum.
They should be impartial, let people who are polite say what they have to say, since Jake paid money for the game, give it a chance, and also his time to test their game.

So they are a indie team? Yes
They act as professionals? No
They are polite? No
How they react to abuse of power? They allow it to continue
So, being a indie dev team is a excuse for any of that? I don't think so

Just Imagine if CD PROJEKT RED began locking and giving bans to people who complain about the state of their unfinished game full of bugs, not a respectfull thing to do right?
Yeah, but that's what The Indie Stone is doing in Project Zomboid forums right now.

☠UPTADE 2: They don't understand what constructive criticism is for sure and BAN from the forum everyone who raises the question: "where consumers money are going into? Why its seven years and not even half of the game had been delivered?" Its the typical syndrome of "Only Flatter the devs is allowed here", who sunk indie ships a lot unfortuntelly.
Not first time they let people down, and probably not the last, take a look at the print.

☠EDIT 3: No surprise, they are doing it again, the results of power addiction, proof about more of their behavior here on the print.

☠EDIT 4: dev had come out and point at my face that i only have three hours of gameplay here so i don't have the right to say anything according with him, wait a second, I did not pay money for this product? Maybe he don't knows too that ppl have other accounts too like GoG? Fool of me of having supported in the past, having a copy in the two places, but be sure they don't are going to receive a single cent of me ever again!
I need to point out too, that at first back in 2015, they seemed a lot polite when i asked them by facebook page about the game before buying, now they don't care anymore to show a bit of respect for who spent money into their work.

They need to learn so MUCH and fire some PR team ppl too, because just look at "Enigma", their moderator, just doing some search in the forums and you can see how the dude always answer any criticism with snark comments, he goes with the crowd of users who thinks the game is perfect and try to bully and fight paying customers, he should be impartial, but he don't is, and for what i see, if you don't accept his intimidation or fights back his baits and snark responses, he always look for a arbitrary justification for a BAN and that had been my case.

☠Tons of Potential, all wasted
Almost 8 years into development, with no 1.0 version on the horizon...
No Npcs, no wildlife, not possible to build a survival community or group, but if you look at the workshop, you are going to find a lot of mods made by the players who deliver some of these features, so why the professional devs can't reach the same point in development and deliver such features for us in seven years of EA?
Some time back i had seen some rumors of them "borrowing" some modding work about vehicles... but its not a confirmed thing, like i said, just rumors, but i wouldn't be surprised if they bullied the modder into silence like they do with everyone who shows up at the forums with not much praising of the devs, but with some professional and constructive criticism.

You know Stardew Valley? If not, look out for it, it's not a secret anymore, how just one dev called Eric Barone could sucessfully pull out a ambitious project like the one he did, and what it had been? The making of a successor to the Harvest Moon games being a more complete experience than any HM game had been.
So why a team with more than one dev can't do the same? Its justified the concern and the need to ask such a question about Project Zomboid having almost 8 years of Early Access, right?!
Nope according with them... they are going to be looking for any sort of excuse to give you a BAN if you do.

Also Early Access is not for the paying consumers give their feedbacks? Appear they only acept praising and refuse any form of constructive criticism. So i guess they don't are using Early Access feature in the right way too.

Seriously, Robert Kirkman finished The Walking Dead comics and these dudes still don't have left the Early Access... this speaks for itself all we need to know

I guess only Kirkman and Romero are professionals to finish their works and give us good quality zombie stuff, these devs here? Nope
I bet that both Stoneshard and Space Haven who are recent started indie productions in Early Access, get finished before this one comes out of EA.
I supported both of them too, and different from here, the devs are making real progress in their respective games, and just a note, Space Haven have just three devs on their team...

Also this other two reviews bellow, are a good source to confirm how the devs deserve 0% of trust.

《 IMPORTANT: I played a lot this game in another account, then I bought it for this one here as well 》

■FIRST in mind before we get to talk about any game features, i need to point out some facts related to dev behaviour bellow and also a warning in advance to you...
BEWARE, this game is similar to the disaster title called Imperator: Rome, another game from PDX Studios, but in a reverse way, why? The game had been fun at the release, but during development they did sh!t things like remove content instead of just add content, and remember all content is coming by the money the consumer gives to them.
Because of it, this is one of my biggest regrets of all related to games, buying Stellaris = [
Primary reason is because is never done, last time i played had been when the old sector management mechanic is still in the game (fun mechanic replaced by a boring mechanic).
After that i made a promise for myself, never touch this thing again, because is sh!t to like and get used to a feature and that one be removed : /

(To such thing happen it's like if the game fits more into a Early Access reality to give us a sort of a temporary experience instead of a definitive one, being what a product in a finished state should give us, and when that don't happens is very awful)

So i'm going to play again when the game is in a definitive way for once, to have a definitive experience instead of a temporary one : (
Maybe when they finish it for real, i come back to play again and rewrite my review based on the experience.

#CONS:
-Devs priorize to add new content by paid dlc, as a way to influx more money into the studio and put the bugfixes as a secondary priority, this had happened more than once during their development here, with the "late lag freezing" bug being a example. This gets the game being further broken to a lot of people who want to enjoy the current content and can't because of such behaviour.
-Devs don't tend to listen much the feedback given to them, even being a constructive criticism, who in professional standarts is a required requisite to evolve, most of the time they don't reply, letting us to wonder if they acknowledged the feedback or just ignored all of it instead.

#PROS:
+Good amount of discoveries, anomalies and events to be triggered.
+Customization of our species with traits and other mechanics is very cool, gives a lot of immersion while playing.
+You can rule different types of stellar governments while choosing the way you want to behave to your citizens or to the rest of the galaxy, the possibilities goes from conqueror, to tyrant or peacekeeper, etc. for examples.
+You can configure the galaxy size and lenght of your game. The time window witnessed during gameplay is immersive too.
+Fleet Building and Combat is fun with different classes of ships, and also is possible to choose a class of Weapon of Mass Destruction to built, like the "Death Star" from Star Wars for example.
+Good trees of research to unlock and built new stuff.
+Workshop is full of mods, so if you are into modding i'm sure you are going to enjoy it for sure.

●CONCLUSION: Let it in your wishlist for now and wait, remember its not a cheap game.
Why?
You can play this game and immerse yourself to feel like Emperor Palpatine (Galatic Empire) or The Federation (Star Trek), UNSC (Halo), etc...
BUT all of this immersive and fun experience could get ruined because of the behaviour and way the devs tend to act during the not finished development of this game with TONS of potential. I really hope they don't waste it, but i'm not much confident unfortunatelly, because let's just look at what they did in Imperator: Rome for example... or in Crusader Kings II, where you can check the forums to encounter some minor bugs left unpatched by the PDX devs, while in other hand there's plenty of Dlc... and some of them left broken too, like the dlc with the feature of import your campaign of CKII into EUIV for example... so its just a tendecy if we think about, they tend to let things broken around and still sell it for us, don't need to be a Lawyer to understand how much Sh!t such act is!
So its that, like in the past, the DANGER of such thing happening too with Stellaris dlc is REAL, and i needed to point it out here, because its a fact who must be addressed in a review, since dev behaviour, mechanics and gameplay are the core of a complete review.

•PS: Comments are deactived, because of trolls and other people who don't understand what constructive criticism is, and the right to speak in such a way, is endorsed when we pay money for devs in exchange of their work.
This review is not just to give feedback to the devs about their game, but mainly for you fellow costumer, who is pondering to invest your money into this stellar journey... so do like NASA did about the Mars expedition, wait more to see if the project turns out viable, avoid any disasters and disappointments lol
A thanks for everyone who read and lets hope this game gets fixed, instead of being further ruined by shady deeds like the ones i described here

Mark my words about what i'm going to address, and take care when considering to buy a game made by PDX, because you can have fun with it at first, but then it's highly likely that you get caught by surprise someday when you open your game and found that they removed some game mechanic you liked or revamped something who wasn't need to be fixed and that went downhill for gameplay, or even that they updated the game and left tons of bugs into it.

☠ The Problem with Paradox:
PDX Studios most of the time don't use Early Access policies on their games, what that means? It means that they release and advertise their titles as finished products, while in reality they are going to pass by a roundup of what they want to introduce or remove from the game, and they take years to do so, and what makes it worse is they tend to try to maxime profits by releasing dlcs for the base game while they are still experimenting with the base game on their unofficial early access title being advertised and sold as a finished product, while in reality it's not.

This game is a good example of a awful behaviour that tends to consist of:
"picking a game who reached the stage of finished game and convert it into a game who would fit better with a label of Early Access,

basically changing his reality, like if the game was still in a Early Access stage, that makes me think, what's the need to mess with a already finished and polished game? Making it bad to play, with some critical features and mechanics for gameplay becoming broken, with a lot of bugs that take ages of time to be fixed by them, and in some cases they don't even get fixed
My logic is, some mods in the workshop adds content without making a broken mess of our game, so why the profissionals can't deliver such same standart of quality on their dlcs?
We aren't talking about a indie developer here, but about a company of considerably size, like Paradox, that makes a good amount of sales every year and have more than enough in terms of resources to address the things properly.

It's more the definition of a setback than one of progress.

Prison Architect is a IP they got to own buying the Studio who make it. Before that the game was in stable and working conditions, now is full of bugs still not patched up, and also full of new dlc who adds maps and content that fit the type "Uh, the Workshop offers mods with better maps and mechanics for free".

PDX it's like the type of Winery who makes products with amazing tastes, but don't know and don't bother at all to learn how proper store them, making everything rot over time.
In another words, a lot of IP's (games trademarks) owned by PDX Studios tends to don't age much well (and we're not even talking about their DLC policy yet, which is very similar to what The Sims from Electronic Arts use, which honestly speaking sucks.).

This game has reached such state of things too, my expectations are that in the end they fix all the bugs that have been added to the game, who has been once a true gem on the Simulation genre (why you think the Prison Architect Trademark got their attention?)

Like Imperator Rome and Stellaris had been dragged into it before.
Unfortunately appear it come to be a tendency with games trademarks owned by the PDX Studios, we can say for sure they unofficially made such behavior their standard policy.

☠ A Vicious Cycle:
Successful titles, but their mistakes are perpetuated title after title...

I picked the game before Paradox Studios acquired the Prison Architect Trademark, back in the day, this used to be a unique simulation and construction game about Prisons, picking a complex premise and delivering it in a challenging, engaging and immersive experience dressed in a style of humble graphics. It's true that the console version have some exclusive features who aren't included into the PC version, but nonetheless the game used to be stable, free of bugs and fun to play.

But then... Introvision Software is acquired by PDX, and now what we have? A finished game being revamped by a Big Company who wants to sell tons of Dlc for their new acquisition : /
And what is sinister about this? I and everyone who bought this game some years ago, don't have a word in such decision, we paid for a product, and now they want to change this product, why they just don't tried to make their own Prison Simulator?

It's like when Disney acquired Star Wars Trademark, appears that big comapanies follow a similar pattern, most of them don't like to build themselves something from the scratch, of investing their huge bulks of resources in bake something new that drinks on a creativity source.
I don't get why, but appear they lost the ability of make original content with a quality standart, instead they have the need to buy content who have such standarts and features, to revamp/poison/strip out of a franchise what make it original, for example, and then sell such content using the nice trademark label they acquired.

Why Paradox can't follow in the standarts CD Projekt used to have, instead of pursuing the kind of policies that was made Electronic Arts famous winning the prize for worst company in US more than once?

FINISH THE GAME AND STOP MAKING POLITICS, WE PAID FOR A GAME, NOT POLITICS

It's a shame, the costumers need do the task of teaching them, to separate work from personnel matters, politics is one of these, not?

This game is a work in progress for what i know. So when i paid for your product, i paid to receive content. Your devs work is make games or write articles about politics? You are journalists? I'm not investing money into a newspapers lol
As a costumer of your product i say that to you, can you release more content about the game? We don't have paid to receive news about politics, charity or whatever, we have paid to receive content! Simple like that!
So, dev do like you please, is your political idelogy who puts food on your table, right? lol

Free piece of advice to the devs: Stop making politics on forums, do your jobs and do games, that puts food in your tables, or not? Talk about controversial stuff puts food on your table?
Or if you think controversial PR stuff is going to do good on sales, go ahead, but you can play journalist and i can stay with my money inside of my wallet ^^

Release more game content, who is responsible of putting food in your table and paying your bills, instead of release talk about controversial stuff ; )

Some good game company rules the devs need to learn about:
1. Make a good game.
2. Have a good release time frame.
3. Don't nickle and dime the players.
4. DON'T GET POLITICAL!

The premise is play as one of the European Kingdoms in a road of conquest. From a noble to a king, taking part on land battles, sieges and naval battles. But for now the game lacks on optimization.
The dev team is made by only three people, and i'm very sorry to give a negative review, i admire the work of a indie developer, but unfortunatelly i cannot recommend a game where i can't have some fun, most because the fps rates drops down so much, even using low settings.

War is not just INDISCRIMINATELY BOMBING THE SH!T OUT of the Enemy!

Sometimes devs have interesting ideas out of this concept, like This War of Mine, showing the Battlefield by a civilian point of view, or Radio Commander where you need to keep track of the situation based on the radio reports your man in the field provide.
So is a great concept, have a game showcasing the role of a Combat Medic in the middle of a conflict. While others do the carnage, your job is try to undone it!

That's the best part of it, because unfortunately for us, the idea is poorly executed on this one.
I don't have much more to say than it, but how can that be my fault?
I can't even get past the tutorial level, why? The movement mechanic is a mess, our doc moves by his own initiative and our job is guide him using the mouse, he don't stops, and you have to avoid obstacles while trying go for your dying comrades.
At first looks pretty simple, but it's very awful to play, and the mechanics are not engaging at all.
It's a game about a Combat Medic, with no Medic mechanic at all, but instead appear more like a "race of avoid obstacles"?

Conclusion:
Not worthy of his full price. At least, I bought this on a sale, but still not a good deal.
Watch Hacksaw Ridge if you want to experience a Combat Medic on action.

#EDIT: If you are interested on a game with such premise, take a look at this upcoming one, maybe this time that great premise gets a decent execution.

This game allow us to go into the military, and build our own carrer with plenty of paths to go, at a time like the "Napoleonic Wars".
It's a very good franchise with three games released, next one the author its working, will be game 4 of 5.
If you like to read and also control the path of your own character, then this game is for you.

Strongpoints:
♘ Amazing lore and universe.
♖ It's like if Tolkien Works and Napoleonic Wars had a baby, and this kid get a draft for a blood war! xD

Weakness:
♙Having the patience to wait for the next game in the series haha

This is a good piece of Interactive Fiction, with a nice amount of choices and paths to follow.
You can mix your survivor stats/perks with different types of builds, building a unique character if you want.
You can follow the path of the Soldier, Cop, Medic, Student, etc. everyone with a different story with his own unique branches.
It's like watch The Walking Dead series or read the comics, but also being in control at some level of what is happening and what is going to happen into the story.
Interactive Fiction purpose is both, author and reader share the control of the story/character a bit, with you building your own story with the choices at your disposal.
And i really need to say, I always wanted to play as a soldier on a Zombie Apocalypse, because you know, most of the games, don't put us at this perspective.

-OBSERVATION: Work in progress, right now the author is writing part 4 of 5.
