Coming from playing several open-world games with self-pacing and real-time combat to this game was a tough transition. I admittedly did not really care for this game at first and really only stuck with it because I'd never refunded a game before and didn't feel like going through the process. I am so glad I did stick with it though. It grew on me very quickly and is easily one of the most compelling, consuming (in a good way) games I've ever played. All of the praise being heaped on is well deserved. Go play it.

First played the day it came out, and I wasn't really impressed (understandably). The story didn't interest me enough to look past the fact that a popup for "Tiancha Kumquat" stayed on my screen for the entire prologue (I thought it was a commentary on advertising or something).
I picked it up again just after 1.5 and really, really enjoyed it. I've played through twice now, essentially one right after the other, just to experience it from the different life choices. The story is compelling and I found myself really becoming attached to ALL of the characters. Fleshing out the romance options more was a great choice. Since 1.5, I've only encountered two bugs that actually forced me to start from a previous save, which isn't out of the ordinary for many of the games I play anyway.
It's definitely not without its faults, I still feel like even more can be done with the romance options. I think gay men (or anyone trying to roleplay as one I suppose) kind of got the short end of the stick in that regard because it is entirely and easily possible to completely miss the romance option. There are still lots of small but annoying bugs that I've encountered, though again it has come a long way. I wish it would have launched with the functionality of 1.5. Better late than never.
I would definitely recommend the game though, especially to anyone that was hesitant before.

The game is fine. I found the branching pathways interesting, and the way it allows you to compare the choices you made with the choices others made is a cool detail. The gameplay is cool for the genre, and the visuals are great, although I did have issues with it stuttering that I had to find a fix for. Having the storylines converge and still be comprehensible is impressive from a writing standpoint. All that being said though, I didn't really find myself getting attached to the characters in the way I have with other games. I know the entire story only takes place over a few days but a lot of the plot still felt very rushed. I wanted to get a good ending, but it was from a desire to see how it all worked out more than it was any feeling of attachment to the characters and wanting to see them succeed. It's a cool concept for a plot but I would've liked to see it fleshed out a little more and have more of an opportunity to get to know the characters. It's worth a play though, I enjoyed it more often than not.
