Aragami is back, and this time, you spend some time in the haven, where you accept missions, use portal to get to the mission, do it, and then you use a portal to get back to the haven. I know what you are thinking, this is the exact same gameplay as Doom Eternal! So, to help avoid confusion, I will tell you a simple way how to distinguish between these two games. In one of them you are a total hardcore badass that rips and tears through the enemies, and in the other you play as the Doom Guy.

Not exactly a sequel

I bet some of you already read some of the negative reviews for this game. If you didn't, let me sum them up for you:

Hur, dur, not Aragami

And it is true. This game feels a bit less like the pureblooded sequel of the original. More like a love child of Aragami, Tenchu, and Mark of the Ninja. So, if you love these games, you will definitely find a place in your heart for Aragami 2.

Customization

This time around you can make the Aragami your own. You will have access to various masks, armors, weapons and colors, making him more unique and personal.

To kill or not to kill

At the end of each level you are rated based on your performance. There are bonus points for avoiding detection, and then a bonus for not killing anyone or killing all the enemies. Thanks to that there is no option to knock out your enemy without killing him.

Weirdly enough, Aragami 2 is probably the only game where finishing the mission without a single kill is way easier than killing everyone, because you don't have to traverse the whole map, looking for every poor soul in all the weird places.

Linear gameplay?

I have noticed some of the reviews call this game "linear", a vulgar word for any game except Call of Duty, right? Problem is that Aragami 2 isn't really that linear. You have to do missions in certain order, but often you will get more than one mission and then the sequence is up to you. And during the mission there is no predetermined path to take, it's up to you how you will handle the task, what path you will take, how much you will roam around, etc.

Skills

A skill "tree" is available, tree being a bit funny word to use here, it works more like a building. You have one floor of the building with skills unlocked and more points you will put to those skills, more floors with more skills you will unlock. Each skill is unique, but yet useful. You won't find yourself wasting points on needless skills just because you need to unlock more skills, every skill has use and you will love using each one you unlock.

As for the variety of the skills, there is your common stuff: Invisibility, shadow killing, creating shadow dopplegangers, etc. And also some more tactical skills like seeing the path the enemy took or the path the enemy is about to take.

One of the most useful skills is probably the Whisper, skill that allows you to attract enemies towards your position, separating them from the herd and dealing with them privately. I definitely recommend not only unlocking this skill, but also upgrading it early on, as it will allow you to target Whisper on individual enemies and not all enemies nearby.

Equipment

Yup, there is equipment now. Shurikens, sleeping/stun darts, poison darts, smoke bombs, health potions, etc. Using these is the key to success, especially considering the combat system.

Combat

You remember that time in the original Aragami that you got discovered and then had about 1 second of life left? Not anymore. Now you can take multiple hits and enemies usually attack from close, they don't possess the one projectile hit instakill anymore. Combat system itself is similar to the games like Sekiro and it takes some skill to take the enemy down in direct combat. But beware, if there are multiple enemies, it is super easy to die, either from enemies or from taking the fall damage after you try to escape with an ounce of life left. Thankfully you have now 2 lives for each mission. You die once, and you recover at the closest checkpoint with all the mission progress saved. Die second time and you have to restart the mission.

Thankfully even multiple enemies at once are not a problem once you learn the mechanics and once you start using your skills and equipment to their fullest.

This game has a very bad joystick support. If you want to play with a joystick, you have to either use some external tool or Steam controller settings to make your joystick behave like a gamepad (yes, this is a gamepad game, not a joystick game).

God of Rage

So, the new Doom is here, so let's make a short summary first: Game is good. It is what Doom 2016 was and more. Go to play!

Story

This time around there is a way more defined story than was in Doom 2016 and not only is the Doom Slayer more interested in the plot, he is actually the major plot point. Doom Slayer is this hardcore demigod, being basically the only living thing that can save the humanity.

This time around he also has a flying high orbit fortress, making him an original member of the Justice League.

Also speaking of the story, you will find a couple of cool side trivias. There are e.g. logs of a doctor researching Doom Slayer, at first she is a bit skeptical of his divine powers and then slowly she turns into his biggest worshipper.

Upgrades

There are SO many upgrades this time around... You got suit upgrades (enhances your suit, how often can you shoot grenades, etc), character upgrades (how much ammo you can carry, how much health points you have, etc), weapon mods, weapon upgrades (upgrades of the mods) and weapon masteries. This time around the weapon mastery is not tied to the weapon itself, but to the mods, which means you have 2 masteries for each weapon except the super shotgun. The weapon mastery also greatly enhances the weapon's power, e.g. the mastery of the meathook will allow the meathook to set enemies on fire, giving you some extra armor without having to use the flamethrower.

Enemies

This time the enemies are way more varied and each of them has a weak point, a way how to defeat easier (or in some cases the only way how to defeat...).

Abilities

This time around the Doom Slayer is way more versatile. He can still double jump, but he can also dash, climb some walls, swing on poles and he can also shoot frag grenades and ice grenades. Newly there is also a flamethrower and a demonic energy sword called a crucible.

Collectibles

Collectibles are now way more varied. You can collect toys of different monsters, diskettes with a cheat codes, sentinel batteries, suit tokens, crystals, etc. Some of them are purely for collecting reasons, but e.g. sentinel batteries are used to unlock new areas and skins in the Doom Fortress (Justice League tower), and collecting cheat code diskettes will allow you to play the original DOS Doom in-game (I guess, I haven't collected all of them yet).

Funnily enough the secrets are now more varied too. Some of them are secrets because they are well hidden, other are secrets despite being in plain sight. You will have e.g. a toy right in front of you, but behind bars and you have to solve a puzzle to get to it.

Multiplayer

Unfortunately the deathmatch is missing, but you can play the Battle Mode (2 demons vs 1 slayer) or you can invade somebody else's game to mess with them.

Overall score

I would say 9/10 easy. It is a very good game, very intense FPS experience with a couple of nice breaks solving puzzles and platforming.

Spoilers

Attention: This section contains HEAVY spoilers about the game, don't read unless you have finished the game or you don't care about the spoilers.

I will be honest right now, if I have written this review during the first hour of the gameplay, it would definitely be negative. At the start you do not feel like an all powerful demon slayer, you feel like a scavenger, always out of ammo. It gets better later in the game when you upgrade how much ammo you can carry and also find new weapons, but the first hour is truly painful.

The platforming can be puzzling at times and you will fall down the bottomless pit a couple of times before you figure out where the hell you are meant to jump next.

As for the minions, I think the game doesn't understand what a boss fight means. First thing that might feel like a boss fight is an introduction of the Doom Hunter, basically the most overhyped disappointment ever. You chase this tank/demon hybrid in the factory as it is being assembled and brought to life to just find how weak that minion is, and right after defeating him you will defeat 2 more on the way out. Let's be frank, you could face 10 of them at the same time and they would still give hardly any challenge.

On the other side, the marauder gets just a brief intro and fighting him is way more challenging. Marauder is basically the demonic counterpart of the Doom Slayer and defeating him takes some skill and timing. On the other side there is no intro animation of the Archville, you are just thrown into a dungeon with buffed spawning enemies and at first you think it's just because of the buff totem somewhere before you find out it is caused by the biggest as*hole in the game. Archviles are OP and I won't judge you for sparing the BFG rounds just for them. After all it doesn't make much sense to spend BFG rounds on other minions and it doesn't really work on Marauders, so Archvile is a good choice.

Spartans!

So, Halo MCC is finally on the PC and it's pretty good. You can either buy just the Halo: Reach, which is currently out, or buy the whole collection and get the rest of the games as they come out, enough said. Now it's time for the review

Nostalgia?

I had seen some people in discussions complaining about the quality of the game so far and that anyone denying the problems are the fan boys on the nostalgia trip.

Not really. This is actually a first time I have played Halo, I grew up on the PlayStation consoles. When I found out they are planning to port Halo games, I got excited because I would finally be able to play some and over a couple of past months I started going crazy, I wanted to know more about the lore, etc, so I bought some Halo spin offs that were available, Halo: Spartan Assault and the RTS game Halo Wars, both of them very good games that I enjoyed and I recommend them, too.

Initial shock

This isn't as much about the game. I simply wanted to enjoy the game the "original way" so for the first time in my life I have bought an XBox controller. The shock was that the controller is actually pretty damn good. As I said, I grew up on PS consoles, including the symmetric PS controllers, XBOX controller is massive compared to that and really weird looking, but it is super comfortable to hold and the positions of the sticks actually make sense, they are not just a later appendage as it was case on PS.

Halo Reach

I am so happy I bought this game. The campaign has a very interesting story and game mechanics are actually pretty extensive. You can use most of the vehicles from the UNSC ones, over the Covenant ones up to a randomly parked forklift. Weapons are varied enough to always be interesting and the power-ups are pretty cool too, you can basically decide between being able to run a bit faster, having shields, holograms or jet packs.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer is currently going strong, there are a couple of new modes and also some classic ones (team deathmatch, ctf, etc), there is also some co-op available. You can also go ranked or unranked as it should be in any good multiplayer.

Overview

- game good
- problems minor
- fun a lot

A great simulator. Actually a couple of simulators in one:

Predator simulator

Track your prey and see if it bleeds

Invincible moose simulator

Not sure if it is because my rifle is underpowered, but mooses just don't care whether you hit them to the head or somewhere else, they just keep going

Moose escape artist simulator

Once you shoot the moose, it runs away. If you track it, you will soon find the old tracks leading you in circle. Pretty much what Xena did most of the show when someone tracked her...

Coyote ninja simulator

You will find a lot of tracks of coyotes, but never a damn coyote, they are stealth masters

Rabbits are dumb simulator

Rabbit is the only animal in the game you can run right up to and shoot from a yard right to the head. Big advantage that you do not have to track them afterwards

Asthma simulator

Not sure why, but the main protagonist doesn't like running around and his heavy breathing can cancel any noise coming from the woods.

10/10 would cough my lungs out while tracking coyote ninjas again!

Vampires, vampires
First of all, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is a vampire game, vampires are the main protagonists of the story, and not just some vampires, in this game you play as Dracula (THE Dracula), you basically play as the main boss in the game where hardly anything can harm you (except the guards, those things can obliterate you at any time).

Generally this game gives you the taste of what it means to be Dracula. Transforming into pack rats, turning into mist, commanding bats, travelling between two eras in the world (visiting the Dracula's castle is probably best part of this game), and drinking blood, loads and loads of blood (which you will need to use all the devices in the castle).

Stealth sections
Many people hated these parts, especially considering that as an unstoppable vampire you have to hide before the aforementioned guards and you also have to take a cover in the front of some bosses despite the fact that you will normally fight them, later. I personally liked the stealth sections as they give a little variety to the gameplay. Plus being able to transform into rats, throwing swarm of bats or even possessing bodies of unsuspecting guards is the most cool thing you have ever experienced.

The train
This is one part of the game where I am going to give you one spoiler. The reason is simple, I needed help there, as well. There is one level where you stand on the train and you have to avoid various obstacles in the tunnel. After spending over 20 minutes in this level I decided to check the discussion and figure out what I am actually meant to do. So, after a couple of minutes of avoiding getting smashed to the face there is a short section without any need to jump side to top to avoid hits to the head. When that happens, simple jump to the side of the train and crawl into the window that is there (the same window you could have seen during the cutscene with the guard and the demon).

Graphical overkill
The graphics of this game are simply epic. The Dracul's castle is probably one of the most stunning things you will ever see in your life, the whole experience of exploration is just breathtaking. If you don't believe me, just notice that this is my first review ever and I have decided to use it for this game.
