Awesome concept, but the utter vile and contempt by the community makes it painfully unplayable.

Most of the people are trolls who think screaming '♥♥♥♥ you' over and over is what passes as 'comedy'

I got Rimworld back when it was still in Early Access, and is one of the very few EA games I do not regret purchasing, as the devs and admin actually took the time to do it right, rather than just hastily slop everything together for the sake of a quick release.

The Devs were very involved with the community which is a rare feat these days, and even though it's out of EA, they are still actively improving on the game, by way of patches and DLC

And unlike other Devs and publishers who publish DLCs of little substance, and are only to nickle and dime the customers, the DLCs that Ludeon published (3 so far), are actually well done, well thought out, and actually serve a purpose, and with the latest DLC, your pawns can now have and raise children which was a feature many have asked for

Also it's worth mentioning, that even during the Early Access, Rimworld was able to maintain an Overwhelmingly Positive review, and there is a reason for that.

Now onwards to the meat and potatoes:

In Rimworld, yoyu guide a party of survivors who have crash-landed into a bleak and barren landscape, and must somehow pull togeher.

You will need to gather resources such as wood and chunks of rock, of which you can build a compound, where you can research new technology and craft weapons, articles of clothing (as clothes can deteriorate over time)

You can hunt animals for food/fur, but beware as some may just hunt you back

You can grow crops such as corn, potatoes and if your settler has a high enough farming skill, can farm other crops such as Healroot, which can be converted to medicine, which is useful if your settlers ever get badly injured

You are not the only ones on this fragile world, as there are others. Some will want to trade, and some will want to wage war.

Be sure to keep your settlers entertained, or if they are bored, will often find ways to entertain themselves (often with destructive results)

Rimworld has just about everything you can want in a game, along with stuff you would never have imagined and everything is 100% customizable as you wish, so you can create a peaceful Garden of Eden or a brutal hellscape.

Welcome to The 'Rim

Design is extremely complicated and is not user-friendly at all. Complete lack of in-game instructions of any kind, and not as much as a blueprint to at least help you get started.

You're just tossed head first and left on your own

E-River Journal is a rather unique and very addictive. It is a game that requires thought and planning, so if you're looking for a fast-paced, high-octane 'adrenaline rush', this may not be the game for you.

If you're looking for a true 'survival game', where each day brings danger, this is the game for you.

The game is played in real time. If it takes you 30 minutes to chop a tree for firewood, it will literally take you that long.

And it's a game of choices and consequences. Do you go hunt for meat or fish? Do you build a gun room or a smoker?

Each action requires the appropriate resource to carry out, plus a certain amount of energy.

Go and chop wood and come face to face with a bear? It could happen
Have a nasty injury chopping wood? It could happen as well

Welcome to Alaska

This is an awesome game, however, like many complicated games there is a learning curve

This is the perfect game for the 'armchair president'. Think you have what it takes to be a better leader? Want to be able to run the United States as a military dictatorship? Want to run Mexico as a Monarchy? Wan to run China as a multi-party democracy?

You can.

The options are virtually without limit.

You can build up your military, and even research new weapons and technology.

I honestly cannot say enough good things about this game and is one that no true fan of Global Political Simulator should be without

I've only had a chance to dabble for a couple of hours, as I am writing this article but so far I am blown out of the water. This is very intense.

You have to scour for resources to build weapons, fires to stay warm, and to tell you the truth, I am completely blown away.

Even though my laptop is a few specs shy of the reccommended settings, and it is a bit choppy (that's my laptop, and has no reflection on the game itself), I am still just blown away by it all.

If it's this awesome in a pre-alpha, I can only wonder how much more awesome the finished product will be

I could never get into the game. I could hear the music playing, but I could not get into the actual game

This game exists for one reason and one reason only. To take your money.

The games are extremely rigged, and just like in a real casino, the house always wins.

After your chips are depleted, you can either wait for another 250 'bonus' (that will allow for just a few spins of a slot machine) or whip out your credit card and purchase chips that you will wind up losing, anyway

At least in a real casino, I get to actually win from time to time, and get free drinks
