I'm a big RPG hater, yet this has quickly become one of my favorite games ever. To say anything else about why this game is amazing would be to spoil it. So my greatest recommendation is this: spend the dosh, get this game, and play through it blind.

In depth immersive top down survival game. Lots of difficulty, but it's what makes it captivating. Fully customizable playing experience, though, with easy and for the most part seamless mod support but even the base vanilla game is great enough to sink countless hours in, even in solo mode.

One problem, though.

If you're into games like this, then I'm sure you've experienced it before, but if you're into this game you'll become overly-immersed pretty easily.
This game uses a moodle system, which means the survival in the game is centered around many different status conditions your character will be going through. Managing all of these can be difficult in a survival game, but incredibly rewarding and fun to be able to manage them. Finding as much as a can of soup when you're starving, exhausted, and freezing can very much be a big win.
The only problem with this is that it's pretty easy to become so invested you'll forget that you, the player, also has to manage your statuses. Thank God for the pause button, but if you're playing a lot of multiplayer be wary that you're gonna need to have food water and breaks scheduled because I've easily sank 10+ hour sessions without eating or drinking in this game. From a real world perspective this can be worrying, but I'm a gamer, and if you're reading this then you're likely one too. You likely know that's very high praise.

Totally Accurate Battle Simulator is a ridiculously fun toy.

I'll admit there's not a lot of gameplay, and it's a little pricey for what it is, but holy crap it's some of the most fun I've had in a while.

What gets me are the voices. I'd pay $3 just to hear all these hilarious grunts.

CS:GO Review
Worst game I've ever picked up. AIDS community. AIDS variation of Counter Strike. AIDS matchmaking. I cannot fathom the fact that I've put 1400 hours into this game. I hate the fact that I'm probably going to put more in.

EDIT: I've done it. I'm finally free... No more CS:GO.
I hope you quit while you still can, friends!

Gonna keep my original review of the game down below this, but I can honestly say my opinion has changed. Originally, there were a comical amount of technical issues with this game, and maybe I can just blame it on a bad install, but we'll go past that, because after a while of tinkering with the game, I got it to work properly, in the same fashion I used to watch my older brother play this game. Now, I still haven't played for a whole lot of hours, but I've played enough playthroughs to know a lot of fun things the game has to offer. My main interest in playing this game specifically as my first fallout was because it's framed like a tabletop RPG, which it practically is. I'm sure a few game breaking mods could make this rival the type of gameplay that DnD has. Just as many numbers, just as many mechanics, just as many customizable playstyles and abilities to play with throughout your own beautifully convoluted twisted path of gossip and destruction. I know to many that sounds bad, but the thing is... it feels natural. My main complaint about most RPG's is there's too much ♥♥♥♥ you have to memorize, but what's great about these original top-down fallouts is you are completely able to have unintentional utility of minimum-maximum playing, completely throw abilities out the window for ♥♥♥♥ that you find is fun, and it just works. My main beef with this game is the weird user-interface. The inability to see items and things on close-walls. Luckily, they make up for this with detailed game design, but you'll still have to get used to very unconventional gameplay controls, locations, and rules. You have to find out what each type of click does when used on certain buttons and characters and when to use them and how to get there, which actually wasn't one of my original complaints about the game, but now since I have a positive review, I feel like it's necessary to mention about half an hour to an hour of getting used to clunky weird controls that don't follow normal turn based control formulas.

Now that's over with, I'll sum up how I feel about individual limbs of the game that I like and/or dislike.

Gameplay: Satisfying and in-depth, but a little inconsistent. By that, I mean that there are unintended annoyances of forcing you to do combat, even if your opponent is cowering in fear, which will sometimes force you to sit through slow animations and sometimes prevent you from doing important interactions. Otherwise, it's very verbose and fulfills just enough in the visual and audial department to keep you looking, but does an even better job with gameplay narrative to tell you what you did and how you do things, just like having a really good and descriptive DM in DnD.

Story: ♥♥♥♥♥♥' incredible. It's not exactly an open world game, but with so much in it you can do, you practically write the story yourself. You don't like how a shopkeeper talked to you? Well you can ♥♥♥♥♥♥' kill him! That leads to dialogue by other characters and new environment details and mentions, and even if they had an important quest or whatever, you're still able to go on after going on murder sprees of a town's notable persons! This was why I wanted to play Fallout 2 and it delivered what I expected.

Bells and whistles: (Your graphics, sound, and general playability) Not great. Not to say it's bad, though. This game is like reading a good book that you're writing on your own. You're proud of what you do, and you enjoy spending time to experience it, but you have to really use your imagination to enjoy what you're reading. That last part is down to a literal sense, because you will be doing A LOT of reading in this game. This means reused skins, NPC models, repetitive music, and fill-in animations, so you'll have to sort of put your mind to the game to get the same satisfaction out of it that a live-action game would.

Sorry I put such a poor review on this game before. It's a good game. Bad review below if you wanna read it.

"Probably the worst game I've ever played. Hardly anything works. Not saving, not travel, not selection. That, and if you alt tab, the game crashes, and because there's no saving, it's just an endless loop of doing the GOD AWFUL BORING BEGINNING OVER AND OVER. Wish I didn't give it a chance so I could get a refund on this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥♥ piece of ported garbage."

Half Life isn't just a game to play, it's a theatrical experience to be explored. An amazing storyline, gameplay that puts you into the eyes and mind of the character, and a taste of mystery you'll forever be wanting more of. A timeless classic I recommend to any gamer.
