The only thing “grim” about this game is that there isn’t a sequel!

I was surprised by how much fun my mother and I got from working together on this! Essentially it’s like scrabble with RPG elements. Certain enemies take more damage (or damage you) based on certain letter patterns; double consonants; use this vowel-not that one; etc.

You can unlock/purchase accessories that make your character stronger in different ways, and the time attack mode adds some excellent variety to the gameplay. We played all through the main game and new game plus-then did both again when the remastered version came out!

If you’re looking for something on the lighter side, and enjoy puzzles/word searches, this game is for you!

Pro tip: I was surprised by how many letter banks gave me the opportunity to spell “equate.” It’s a versatile word, and it uses up those dreaded q’s.

Give It Time...

To be fair, caster starts off somewhat slow. It's also an older game, and has a low price tag, so the graphics aren't the best. The enemies can be underwhelming...at first. (There is an entire second campaign with monsters that are immune to all of your standard weapons.)

Caster is a game that truly rewards players for investing time in it. As you start to upgrade your character, you'll be amazed at your ability to run so quickly that you can skim over lava and acid without being harmed. You'll marvel as you go from having a modest jumping ability, to scaling mountains in 3 leaps or less. And of course, there's the different unlockable weapons along with upgrades for each one.

Where Caster truly shines, is the exhilarating feel of high speed movement. Yes, the invisible wall borders of levels might be irritating, and the scenery may be somewhat plain. But Caster gives you just enough visual detail to truly get a sense of your momentum. And the levels that have flooded forests can actually look somewhat beautiful; even today the reflection effect on the water holds up well.

Being able to destroy the environment isn't too exciting, but it does have a tactial purpose later in the game. The enemies are varied enough, and the AI isn't completely stupid. All in all, it's a great game for what it is, and it may be the closest thing we ever get to Mega Man Legends 3...

Caster frequently goes on sale for less than $1. If that's not enough incentive to try it, I don't know what to tell you. I liked it so much, I actually bought several copies for friends and family. It seems that the developer has hit a few snags here and there in his career since this game came out-mostly corporate red tape beyond his control. But I hope one day he considers making a sequel to Caster; I'd gladly buy it.

Hilarious, Badass, and Addicting!

They have an homage to every iconic action hero from the 80's and 90's. Robocop? Ash Williams? Neo? Blade? All in there! Terminator? Macgyver? Conan the Barbarian? Rambo? You bet your pixelated ass! And each character has their own unique playstyle and special abilities.

Speaking of gameplay, until I tried this game for myself, I did not realize just how destructible the environment truly was. Everything can be destroyed. EVERYTHING! Imagine someone took the destructible environment game mechanic from the Worms game series, and made your turn time limit unlimited! This opens up hysterical and unique gameplay options. Entire sections of enemies can be skipped, or ambushed! At one point, I defeated a boss by destroying the floor underneath him-causing him to fall into an abyss and instantly die.

If you want a game that offers choices and variety; if you want a game that's great to play with a group or alone; if you want a game that lets you trick enemies with delicious turkey dinners stuffed with explosives? Buy Broforce. Defending freedom never felt so good.

I'm tired of this game receiving so much hate! Is the keyboard control scheme clunky as hell? Yes...but it's really a game designed more for a controller. Controller play scheme works like a dream! Is the plot a little lacking? Yes...but it's more about the gameplay! Most of the characters play somewhat similarly? Yes...but they still have some differences! And they can unlock upgrades, you know!

People complain that it's substandard compared to Trine. Well it's a third less of the price! And it's half the cost of Trine 2! And did I mention 2-4 player shared screen coop? On one computer? That's right; 4 people can all play on one pc on the same steam account. No one else in the group has to buy a copy. That is almost unheard of in this day and age!

The platforming and combat sections are usually underwhelming, but the puzzles are where this game shines. Sure that might hurt the replay value, but for Satan's sake people! It's a $10 game! Party of Sin is fun for what is. It's got a modest price tag, and is vastly more fun when you aren't playing by yourself.

Most of the complaints against this game can be resolved with 2 actions: buy a controller (or more than one), and get some friends to play with you. Make some friends if you don't have any! Bribe homeless people on the street to come play with you for a few hours if you have to...

Be prepared to hear yourself curse...a lot.

The music might be lovely, and the alien robotic language is cool, but the puzzles are unforgiving! You must do each one EXACTLY right. That wouldn't be so bad if not for the fact that each action requires energy, and you have a limited capacity!

This became unacceptable in the room with the portal guns. You actually find portal guns! You should be able to experiment, and explore-but no! Every shot uses some of your energy! And in other rooms? Pushing boulders consumes energy. Digging holes consumes energy. Lose all your energy? Start the whole room over! Unintentionally block your path? Start the whole room over!

And just in case you don't hate yourself enough: some of the rooms have skip buttons you can click on before your anger turns into a full blown stroke. And if admitting defeat isn't humiliating enough, the game makes you confirm that action twice! Are you sure? Are you really sure? You know no one will ever love you if you skip this puzzle, right?

I had had enough about the 2nd or 3rd time I encontered rogue; traveling electrical sparks of death! Clearing past them requires exact precise timing. Getting hit by a single one spits you back, and uses up an energy bar. You only get like 6 energy bars-and you need to save them for the puzzles! I was expecting a cute story with light puzzle elements-not a platformer! Buy it if you're a card farmer or you or you really enjoy precise; timed movements. Otherwise, run away while you still can!

A challenging, but fun game-it often goes on sale or can be found in bundle deals.

Pros:
-Great character variety
-Even better with friends! The more players; the better.
-Tons of challenging levels to try.

Cons:
-Difficulty can sometimes be brutal.
-One player is kind of lame

Oh, and it should be mentioned that is more of a stealth/action/puzzle game. Don't expect to be able to go in guns blazing like Hotline Miami. Other than that, enjoy!
