I think I am writing this after everything was fixed - because I'm not running into any of the problems others have...

I am playing Panic Room 1 at the same time. There are a few little spoilers I have run into so far, since this game takes place 10-20 years into the future (can't remember how long exactly), and I'm almost on season 2 of the Panic Room 1 game - but those spoilers I had already figured out early on in PR1 so I didn't mind.

Things I really like about this game -

* The rooms still closed off to me in Panic Room 1 are some of the first to open in Panic Room 2. Namely, the Film Theatre, the Winter Garden and the Study (so far), so I feel like I'm getting to play most of the mansion. And those that are open in both games look different enough - with different furnishings, time of day/night seen through window, etc, - that it feels a bit like playing two different rooms, so doesn't feel too similar.

* The story is interesting, with a bit of mystery invovled.

* This game also has events - as soon as one ends, another begins. And it has contests, like the first game.

* It is a more simplistic version of Panic Room 1, but with much the same setup - friends to gift, puzzles to find, karma to give, collections to gather, daily presents from the devs - with a weekend boost to health or half price of rooms - and it is also fun. :)

Yes, there are ads to use real money to buy - ALL daily games have them. It's how the devs earn their profit since the game is free to play. But I did not find these ads so frequent as to be annoying. And some of them are for buying with in-game items - coins you earn while playing the game.

I recommend you give it a whirl - what do you have to lose?

I have amended my review from a bad to a good rating - not because the problem of the achievements being saved in game (and not resetting back to 0 when I exited and entered game again ) was fixed. It wasn't. But I managed to keep my computer on all day and ffwded all conversations in only the episodes where achievements were needed - so as to get all footnotes, character interactions, etc required to gain all achievements - thankfully the game did not crash this time. And i did get the 2 special pics for getting all achievements done (Hallelujah! lol)

That said, I am giving this a good rating because I really enjoyed playing the story and thought it was well presented - I love anything Phantom of the Opera/ Erik/Christine related - and the story and gameplay was a lot of fun, didn't want to quit.

Just please be warned, those who are achievement hoarders - if you run into the problem I had, you will not be able to keep them in the inventory once you exit the game and sign back on - but at least Steam shows them as final once you get them - so there is that - even if they do reset back to "0" in game itself.

As for the gallery - any progress made for that also disappears if you leave the game and enter it again - so be sure and hit F12 on your computer to save any pics you like as screencaps on Steam. :) Also, be sure and read any footnotes you are interested in before exiting game, because once you come back, they will be locked again (and episode will need to be replayed with the footnotes picked up in order to read them).

Please, devs, please fix this bug. I gave you a good rating for the story and the way it was presented but if this were rated by stars, I'd have to knock one off due to the lousy setup for achievements/footnotes/gallery, in that they don't "stick"

Other than that for any who are interested in this game and thinking about purchasing- and if you're not one to care about bonuses or achievements earned - and are more about story/ gameplay - then you will love this game - if you're a PotO lover.

One thing I really also liked - at the very beginning, you are given a choice for what Christine will decide in the end (and also at the end you are as well) - as an E/Cer (not an R/Cer) I appreciated that. :) (Even though it does end tragically, staying faithful to the G.L. story in that respect.)

Enjoy! :D

I own all the Dark Parables games and find them a delight to play- this one is no exception. I especially like the manner of gameplay, the sometimes medieval sounding music, the beautiful graphics, the puzzles (which are a match to theme and challenging but not so hard you want to pull your hair out or hit the skip button) - the FROG/ HO scenes (even if they aren't as pretty and jewel-like as the older DP games), the many morphing objects (not in every scene, making them more difficult to find), as well as the imaginative tales themselves - usually a dark twist on 2 - 3 fairytales combined, along with surprise visits from characters of earlier DP games. I also like how in gameplay you stumble across items and notes that tell the story as you go, and also those that belong to other characters in earlier DP games...And of course I like the parable pieces found in the popup windows, to unlock the parables that are thematic to the game, telling the backstory. I even like the sounds used when things are collected - DP's own brand. I have played countless demos and and own hundreds of HOPA games -but there is something magical about Dark Parables games that make them stand out from the rest ... this comes with collectibles to find, (parables and morphing objects), a strategy guide, a jump map, a bonus chapter - and the usual menu of achievements, replay of puzzles, HOPs, etc...

I recommend this, and all their games - especially for those who enjoy beautifully drawn fairytales and casual, fun gameplay that possesses a certain charm (though there are also a few freakish moments and jump scares blended in- as stated, they are DARK parables. ;-)). Enjoy!
