Maximum Entertainment absolutely ruined this game, firing the developers in the middle of a QA testing period and releasing a patch afterward that completely broke this game due to the necessary QA work never done. A sad case of a crowdfunded game ruined on all fronts with the broken patch including silencing and banning members of the community in the public discord server for this game. Only one moderator was left to do anything and they weren't even involved with the game at all really. The greatest whammy of all of this though, after seeing a publisher burn their bridges with a team of developers with years of fighting game dev experience...

MaxEnt announced a new Avatar: The Last Airbender fighting game right afterwards. You can't make this ♥♥♥♥ up.

Obviously people are salty that FX3 purchases do not completely roll over to FX, but they have implemented Legacy Packs for those that owned tables in FX3, you can get those same table bundles for new FX for half price. You have to be careful when reviewing the store pages so that you can take advantage of a Legacy bundle whenever possible. Williams Vols 1-6, Universal, Jurassic Park, several Star Wars packs, and some Zen tables will have legacy packs whenever visiting their pages on the store page if they exist in both FX3 and new FX. These will also stack with sales, so during a sale you can make a killing getting Legacy Bundles dirt cheap.

There are currently ~40 tables exclusive to new FX at this time, and while there are some pricey tables definitely and I understand the reservations some may have spending $10+ for one table, but you have to understand the niche market here and the real life component of pinball. Look up the price of any remotely popular or in demand pinball table and things may start to look different. My views as a newer pinball player starting in mid-February 2024 may be skewed since I obviously do not have context for development history behind this franchise, but the reason for some of the things people complain about is partly in due to the change to a new game engine to futureproof things more easily later on and so that there aren't as many hands-on constant tweaks needed like there used to be.

In short, new FX is the main platform going forward and where you should get unowned tables now instead of FX3, make sure to use Legacy Bundles and sales prices combined whenever possible to get the best deals if you don't feel like shelling out money earlier.

While Pinball FX/FX4 has since released in 2023 after FX3, there are still a bunch of tables that never migrated beyond FX3. For clarity's sake, the following tables are NOT in New FX (as of 08/28/2024):

Zen Originals:
*Zen Classics Pack: El Dorado, Shaman, Tesla, V12
*Sci-Fi Pack: Earth Defense, Mars, Paranormal

Other Packs:
*Aliens Vs Pinball: Aliens, Alien vs Predator, Alien Isolation
*Bethesda Pinball: Skyrim, Doom, Fallout
*Valve: Portal Pinball
*Telltale Games: The Walking Dead

*Fox Animation (Balls of Glory Pack): Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, Archer, American Dad
(Delisted August 28th 2024)

This leaves a total of 19 tables exclusive to FX3. Other than these tables, everything else got migrated to new FX. There isn't a major reason to get the shared tables in FX3 if you don't own them already and it would be better to look to FX going forward since new FX is aiming to future proof itself for years to come and has completely different ball physics. At the very least the 19 tables listed previously leave a reason to return to FX3 sometimes.

Helldivers 2 was in an incredibly frustrating state for several months, but I can say that the game seems to have come back stronger than ever since the 60 day project mentioned by the devs. This game has gone back and forth between being great to bad to meh to problematic to apparently pretty good right now, so I would say that in the long term this game should be worth it. Tiring of changing my review between positive and negative so I'm leaving it here no matter what going forward.

The main reason this would remain relevant today in any capacity would be for specific tables never ported to FX, unfortunately the Williams license was revoked in June 2018 and 2/3 of the tables offered for sale were delisted. For all of the old tables no longer sold, the only thing you can do is refer to the internet for a crack for tables you can't buy anymore anyways.

After discovering stuff like Pinball FX and Visual Pinball, TPA's main positive point nowadays is it's relatively easy setup if you are willing to pirate the delisted tables on the internet and don't mind physics being a bit dated.

It's never going to stop with this game since Bandai Namco is behind it and a polite reminder that they are trying to make up for lost time thanks to Bandai Namco Online going insolvent earlier this year and abandoning bringing Blue Protocol to the West. It's only going to get worse with the content delivery of this game going forward. You can enjoy Tekken 8 and that's fine and all, and I would even say that base game is still kinda worth for at least a little while, but being ok with the mxt is absolutely not fine. I'm just about done putting up with Namco Bandai's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ regarding the latest stage being something you have to pay $5 for after charging full price for a game and then treating it like it were a free to play live service game. Enough is enough, how come those who payed out the ass for Deluxe/Deluxe update or Ultimate editions isn't good enough? You can't even make a game that lets people willing to throw the money down upfront not have to think about any extra DLC for the rest of that season? That should be bare minimum for anyone putting down that much.

If it really costs $180,000 to make a stage as one claim states, then that explains why they are actively nickel and dime-ing people with useless avatar stuff and forcing people to suddenly buy stages when they were traditionally included in the past with season passes like in T7. I feel sorry for TOs that suddenly have to spend extra to have this stage on every setup on all tournament setups. Anyone that goes "bUt iT dOesnT sAy anYThiNg AbOut sTaGes in Teh seASoNPasS foR T8", ♥♥♥♥ you for basically sitting back and enabling this. NOBODY was expecting stages to be omitted because they have ALWAYS been traditionally paired with a character or included in season passes. After paying extra for base + whatever version + whatever mxt already exists, reminding people there's no stages in the pass is worthless because this is the first time Bamco pulled this crap. I did the deluxe upgrade back before Eddy even dropped, but I wasn't expecting the first three characters to be old characters from previous games, two of them former base roster characters too. That's $30 of DLC of just old characters none new since T8 released. These along with the haphazard changes on a whim that occur in this game historically, there's no way I'm giving them more money next season and I don't see how others aren't feeling jipped at this point. With the DLC characters and now this stage, that's $45 extra on top of the price of the game. Absolutely atrocious and I'm sure others are going to just drop the game going forward once they see how a $70 game can still demand basically another $70 if you want characters, stages, and anything else extra in the game.

Even then though, this game was fun for 2 weeks then got stale and boring because of the heat mechanics. Avoiding The Puddle asking European players at a tournament what they like about Tekken 8 and every single one of them responded simply with a look of contempt and not getting a positive answer out of anyone is all I really need to say about the state of this game after the initial fun stage and you're 50+ hours in. Would expect nothing less anymore from the devs that charged people for frame data in T7 after all.

I ended up pulling the trigger on this as an impulse buy. You're basically buying this for the Boosted soundtrack remix which is good, but at full price this is a little expensive.

If you can get this on sale, it MIGHT be worth. I have been getting 2 frames of input delay based on testing recordings, but there are sound crackling issues still being reported to be happen randomly. Unfortunately the few people that have talked about this port have reported different results, input delays of up to 4-5 frames, and consistent crackling with music. I could recommend this cautiously on a sale since the game does provide some nice options like load/save state, rewind, online leaderboards, and stage select practice which could be better but is still useful. Would proceed cautiously since it seems like there's no known way to figure out if this will run well for you or not unless you download it and try it out first.

Edit 02/02/2024: Like I said before, you're basically buying this for the Boosted soundtrack. Now that Bitwave has released Batsugun and a few other games in Toaplan Shoot 'Em Up Bundle Vol. 3, you can get Batsugun without the Boosted soundtrack for $20 less on steam now. I can't wholeheartedly recommend this anymore unless you REALLY REALLY are in it for the Boosted soundtrack and you REALLY want to spend the extra money just for the remixed music.

This game is COOL AS HELL, I can't compare it to anything else at all. It is an extremely brain-challenging pain inducer in ways that leave me intrigued trying to mess around with the pieces to see how they change the rules of the current puzzle. Anyone that loves puzzle games ABSOLUTELY needs to get this. I am not sure if I'm smart enough to finish this whole thing by myself, but it's so cool to try out and the satisfaction of finding a solution to a puzzle is unmatched.

This offers quite a bit of content for the price: 5 different modes to play with: Arcade mode which is what one would expect when the word Arcade appears, Cadet mode which is a lengthy list of challenges to try with each ship, Score Attack which is a 2 minute Caravan-eqsue mode, Time Attack which is an endless run with a timer that you can increase to keep the run going longer, and lastly Endless mode which is a 1 life affair which gradually gets harder the longer you thrive.

There are local and online leaderboards, and 6 difficulties offered in the game's Arcade mode along with two scoring styles as a secondary selection after difficulty. The first three difficulties are on the easier side while the harder 3 really begin to ramp up quickly and move freakin fast like bullets in a Psikyo game. The game generally thrives on fast bullets and not overly complicated patterns like something out of Cave, so if you don't like fast Psikyo bullets this might not be something you will be into. The only real gripe I could say is that the first stage can seem a bit empty on the easier difficulties sometimes but fast bullets help to make up for it.

Easily the best feature of this game is the NINE different ships offered, all notably different from one another to the point that they are impossible to compare to each other. It is worth trying out each ship to find which one clicks best with you, because I genuinely didn't get much until one of the later ships I tried that made me start to like things more. This is without a doubt the game's most commendable feat because there's very few traits that are really comparable between ships, even if the game tries to have 3 "base" types with 3 subclasses in each. When you tie everything together, it's really hard to say that someone isn't going to find SOMETHING in this game that they like, and who knows could even become a treasure mine if multiple things click with someone.
