Early Access Review
Project Zomboid is a game about learning from the decisions you make. You ask yourself, should I eat the can of dog food I found in a cardboard box outside a derelict building or the uncooked cockroach I found in a gas station trash can? Is it safe to sleep on the floor of this abandoned railway station or should I move on before it gets dark? Do I have enough time to run into the police station and grab a shotgun? I mean the zombies are slow and I'm fast so I should be good right? You learn that you actually have to eat both to stave off the effects of starvation for the night, that sleeping in the railway station and moving on were both unsafe and now you're stuck marching forward into the forest slowly dehydrating to death because you didn't see the horde that was hidden behind the building. That making a mad dash for the weapon locker was a bad idea not only because the horde is now bashing in the windows but because all weapons are locked behind a security door that you didn't know about. That even if you had managed to grab the lead spewing zombie eviscerating shotgun of your dreams all you would be doing is ringing the dinner bell as all zombies within a 10 mile radius come to answer the call. But as your character is slowly dragged down to a horrible and extremely painful death due to your own incompetence and highly questionable choices, youve learned something. Your character might be dead, but the knowledge you've gained sticks with you as you begin to formulate your new plan for survival. In Project Zomboid dying is part of the game. I'd say it's pretty accurate when they tell you: this is how you died. It's difficult and unfair sometimes so that makes it not everyones cup of tea but remember every time you're taken down, you get back up armed with new experiences to prolong the harsh existence that you call a life. I've played this game for a couple years now and I thoroughly enjoy it, especially now that I can watch my friends make the same horrible choices I know I've made. 10/10 game can't wait to see what else they are going to add!
