I was an early alpha backer of this game, having known the dev Shadiradio from his previous game, Hawken. It's been a ton of fun playing and watching and learning. The gameplay are fantastic and tricky, allowing for so many possibilities. Invisigun Heroes is sneakily disguised as a couch party game for 4 people but has immense depth and potential to be so much more competitive and serious if you spend enough time in the game. I've never found such a cerebral top down pixel shooter.

10/10, would buy again. Oh, and the art and music for this game is top notch.

Early Access Review
My Steam statistic regarding my playtime for Hawken is false; I've been playing since the start of the Open Beta release of Hawken, 12/12/12.

I first saw Hawken on an advertisement on the Nvidia website when I was going to download drivers for my graphics card. I clicked the link, read a bit on Hawken's official website, and have been hooked ever since. Due to a childhood fascination of robots thanks to Star Wars, I was immediately intrigued by this Beta game and decided to test it out on my new gaming rig. The first match I played was exhilirating to say the least; the game captured a weighty feel of a giant mech stomping around, but yet still felt fluid enough to match some of the faster FPSes I've played in the past. I also noted the apparent lack of any "pay-2-win" functions. The only monetized feature of the game were boosts and cosmetics, neither of which have a direct impact on your effectiveness in the game. This game appeared very fair (monetarily) to me and has avoided any Pay-2-win features thus far.

The graphics are stunning, the art design is breathtaking, the gameplay is fluid and fast, and there's a decent number of mechs, items, and internals that for some customization, and that number will only grow in the future. I've seen Hawken's ups and downs across the months I've been playing in pretty much everything, from matchmaking woes to various bugs and glitches (as any game does), but as of the Steam release, I can say that a good number of these issues have been addressed or are being addressed. The one thing I have to emphasize is this: no mech is clearly better than another. Skill is ultimately the deciding factor in an engagement, meaning no one particular mech will make you stomp the other team regardless of your skill, which is one of Hawken's most attractive features. If you have any doubts about this, just play the game and see for yourself. Maybe you'll catch me in my favorite mech, the Grenadier, raining explosions down on everyone- including you!
