MU-GEN NO TOU is a random game I had recommended in my Discovery Queue that caught my interest.

The whole point of this game is to simply climb the tower as far as you can as fast as you can. You start off with 60 seconds and you gain additional time every time you advance to a new floor. There are enemies in the game but they can't kill you as you don't have HP in this game, instead they shave off time for each successful hit they land. There is also no level ups or permanent upgrades, only collectible powerups you have to find each run.

Now you can defeat said enemies as you are armed with a sword but mashing the attack button isn't going to save the day. For example when I had a bat fly down towards me if I mashed the attack button that usually lead to me getting hit and losing time. The key here is to time the attack at the right time to take out the bat before it hits me. In order to better avoid the time penalty from getting hit by enemies timing your attacks or even jumps will be key.

As previously mentioned there are powerups you can get which will help aid you and will always be found in a treasure box beside the door leading to the next floor, however you may not always find a treasure box. The powerup you get is random between three things: Wolf, Cross and Airjump. Wolf is a ground attack that looks like a shockwave that you can launch towards the enemy (good for taking out the goblin that likes to charge at you), the cross is an attack you can shoot in the air (I found this helpful for taking out bats before I got to them), and airjump is a double jump (which can help you navigate quicker). All powerups feel useful as long as you save them and utilize them at the right time.

I'm going to be honest, with my first couple runs I thought I had wasted $0.99 but once I started to get a better grasp of timing my attacks and utilizing my powerups at appropriate moments, the game became a lot more fun. Once you complete a run you are given a score that goes to a local leaderboard and also an online one as well. This to me added more enjoyment as trying to improve your score and compete with others is fun to do in games every now and again kind of like old arcade games. The sad part is that as of this review there is only two players on the online rankings tab in game, me and another player.

If more people played the game and added more life to the leaderboards I think this game could be a lot of fun competing with others to see who could reach a higher score and push other players to try and up their game.

MU-GEN NO TOU is a game that I feel would shine much brighter if there were more players to liven up the leaderboards and this is coming from someone who mostly plays single player and doesn't put much interest into multiplayer aspects of games.

VARYZNEX is a horizontal shmup that gives me the feel of playing a retro shmup that one would play on the SEGA Genesis, so if you are a fan of old school SEGA Genesis shmups then you should definitely pick this one up.

At this moment I have only played the game one the Normal difficulty and have not tried the Hard difficulty and I can say with my skill level at shmups the Normal difficulty is fast paced and fun enough for me. Players who are more skilled will probably enjoy the Hard difficulty, but for players who are not so skilled (like myself) the Normal difficulty is plenty of fun and not difficult in a rage quit sort of way while also not being a boring cakewalk. You are given the ability to switch between firing modes consisting to focusing only in front of you, focusing on the areas above and beneath you, and focusing on the area behind you. You can freely switch this up with the push of a button and will to be quick to keep switching as needed by the current situation you find yourself in.

The only issue I have is that the soundtrack is unfortunately not available for purchase at the time of this review. With a soundtrack this good it is a shame to not have it available for download as well and I am sure I am not the only player who feels this way about the soundtrack. The soundtrack is an absolute blast to listen to while playing and does an excellent job of getting the player into the moment.

Overall VARYZNEX is a very fun shmup to play and a nice throwback to the kind of shmups you would find on a SEGA Genesis console (makes me want to play Hellfire again). Again if you are a fan of the retro style shmups this is a great title to add to your library. Now here is hoping the developer will be able to release the soundtrack as that too would be a worthwhile purchase.

A drilling game so addicting it should be illegal.

DigDigDrill is one of those simple games that turns out to be incredibly addicting to play. It is one of those games where I say I will have a play session of an hour or two and move on to something else only to find I spent considerably more time on it than I had planned to.

The whole point of DigDigDrill at first is to reach floor 999 which when first starting out it takes effort to do so. You need to collect ore, blueprints and gold along the way to forge better drills to help accomplish this task. As you progress though you find out you can upgrade to equip multiple drills at a time and each drill can have enchantments on it. Now you find yourself trying to make super drills to break the game and get to floor 999 as quick as possible and acquire as much loot as you can.

Once floor 999 has been reached the game hits you with a new quest to conquer the ruins which have up to ten levels of difficulty each difficulty rank raising the amount of HP the blocks have making it tougher to progress if your drills are slacking in power or enchants, but it has better rewards. The ruins also introduce Haniwa and Totems which can also add to your power making your drilling even more potent. Oh yeah, an orebless tree also pops up along the way adding even more ways to take your drilling to the next level.

DigDigDrill is like Disgaea if Disgaea was a drilling mining game instead of an SRPG. You grind alot, you get more powerful, you grind more and get more powerful and eventually are left in awe when you combo enough Bomber++ enchants with BatteryBlast++ and GoodLuck++ to watch as loads of blocks just explode around you and all that glorious loot comes flying into your bag.

Of course if your bag gets too full your drill speed slows drastically making it where you want to surface to drop off your loot as a slow drill speed means lower DPS to the blocks in your way, unless you also have the Collector++ enchant which gives your drill a boost to attack power for each ore you have in your bag, in this case the slower speed doesn't matter as you will have more than enough attack to blow through any block in your way. There is something strangely satisfying about seeing one drill hit doing 1000000+ damage. Do I really need to waste that much time in order to do that, don't know and don't care because I liked seeing it happen.

With all the ways to make your drilling extremely powerful, constantly rerolling in the drill forge to get the enchants you want, DigDigDrill has the potential to keep you playing for awhile or at least coming back for more especially if you are a player who wants to get all the achievements in it.

Thought Vampire Survivors was addicting, DigDigDrill is pretty dang close. Try the demo and if it hooks you grab the game. At the time of this review I have 63 hours on record, that is a lot of hours put into a $3.99 game and that should show just how addicting the gameplay of DigDigDrill can be. Just don't blame me if you end up finding yourself spending your weekend off from work or school glued to DigDigDrill.

I ended up picking up this game because the looks of it reminded me of Gauntlet. The objective for the game is to survive going through 10 floors and making it to the room with the dragon and slaying it. After that you get sent to Abyss mode where you just try and survive for as long as you can.

The game only lets you choose between four characters to begin with with more being unlockable for gold that you can accumulate through your runs. Not only are characters available for purchase but you can also unlock permanent upgrades for your characters to help aid in your struggle to clear every floor and defeat the dragon at the end.

I use the word struggle as I found the game to be rather challenging but really rewarding when I finally managed to get all the way to the end. There are plenty of enemies to slay, enemy spawners that need to be destroyed, mimics, spiked floors, and plenty of bullets needing to be dodged in order to stay alive and see your quest to the end. It is also worth mentioning that if you stay on a floor for too long a character known as Death will spawn in and try to kill you. Early on this could make you feel you need to rush but there is an option you can unlock which will disable that from happening allowing you to take as much time as you need. This is a great option to use for new players getting familiar with the game and players who like to take their time. Of course you can always turn this off once you are more seasoned and looking for an additional challenge.

As you progress you also gain experience points to level up and upon leveling up you get your choice between three randomly selected upgrades you can choose from such as a strength boost or even leveling up your main and secondary attacks. Of course after a run regardless of you being successful or not, your level will be reset to 1 along with the removal of any boosts you received that were because of level ups. Boosts unlocked from the shop are permanent and will not be reset as long as you choose not to do so.

Overall I think Pixel Descent is a very fun game and I look forward to trying to make it to the end with more characters and unlocking everything I possibly can. I will say that the game does require patience however as you will most likely fail and fail again and again until you are able to make it all the way to the end. Of course the amount of failures will depend on the player's individual skill but failure is bound to happen and if you don't have the patience to keep trying and have to have your victory now you probably wont have fun with this game.

Overall I recommend Pixel Descent for players who want a fun and challenging game that also won't break the bank with it being $5.99 at time of this review.

All Puyo Puyo no filler

As soon as the game loads you can jump straight into a Puyo Puyo match right from the title screen without even going to the main menu. If you do go to the main menu you can choose between the following modes: Solo, Multiplayer (up to four players at the same time as a mix of local people and CPU), Lessons (to try and learn the ropes and advanced techniques), a challenge mode and online mode. The game also provides two different gameplay styles you can choose between being either the Puyo Puyo 2 style or Puyo Puyo Fever style. Personally I prefer the Puyo Puyo 2 style but the option to choose is nice.

Puyo Puyo Champions is perfect for me when I feel like playing a quick round of Puyo Puyo against the CPU or my brother to get my Puyo Puyo fix or just when I want to play a game and have little time to do so.

As the cheaper option over the Puyo Puyo Tetris titles, I feel this would be a good place for those new to Puyo Puyo to try it out and see if they like Puyo Puyo or not and use the Lesson mode to help get familiar with how the game works.

For the low cost of FREE you get the following:
- Over 100 types of Solitaire to play
- No annoying advertisements interrupting gameplay flow like the Microsoft Solitaire Collection
- Card customization you can use your own provided images for making the DLC completely optional for those who like the options available for sale or just want to financially support the developer

Hands down the best Solitaire game I have seen available with everything I could ask for in a Solitaire game. I don't see myself playing or needing to play another version.

A fun and rather silly game that is recommended at a discount

Out of all the survivor style games I have played Maid of the Dead has had the most actual story to go along with the gameplay. With that said I found the story to be rather silly, cheesy, and cliche but I feel that is where the charm of this game lies. From first seeing the main menu screen with that heavy song playing I couldn't help but start grinning as I could just feel this was going to be a rather silly experience.

Gameplay wise it is not the most fun survivor style game I have played but it is far from the worst. What I find interesting is that each of the six characters you can play each character has a different gun with a special skill specific to that gun and melee weapon which helps to make them feel different from each other which is a good thing. A negative however is that the skills you get to choose from as you level up are not many so the player will more than likely play the same exact way with the only difference being the chosen character's choice of weaponry.

To better explain this in the early game the player will most likely gravitate towards picking the incendiary grenade as it is the most helpful option at the point, but as the story progresses and more options are available for the drone options everything else feels obsolete and nowhere near as helpful especially when tackling the late stages and the 30 minute survival map unlocked after clearing the story. Another downside to the gameplay is that once you unlock Otoha with the Gatling gun and morningstar the player may have a harder time clearing the late stage maps and the survival map with any other character as she is a powerhouse with her weaponry and special skill.

Story wise as I stated earlier the narrative is rather silly, cheesy and cliche. Instead of taking the story seriously I found myself smiling and honestly getting a chuckle here and there especially with some of the dialog as the maids you can play as are just so silly at times and truly feel like they came out of an anime or manga. This however I feel is not a bad thing because sometimes it is satisfying and just feels good to experience a fun and not serious story.

As for the the 'Frequent Nudity or Sexual Content' disclaimer Steam has for this game I am not sure why it is there as after playing through the main story that kind of content reminds me of stuff you would see from a T and M rated title on a console. There was more nudity in a Senran Kagura title as that game had full clothes removal with censorship in place and in this game during the story the most you would see is quite a bit of skin and undergarments still being worn. If you were looking at this game in hopes of explicit nudity or sex, you are not going to find that here. This may be a turnoff for some players but honestly with the story being as it is, I don't think that kind of content would really fit or work for this game and isn't really needed. Believe me when I say there are other games where that kind of content works and is a fun fit for the game, I have played a few.

If you are looking for an adult game look elsewhere, if you just want another survivor style game just for the gameplay aspect there are better for cheaper, but if you are looking for a for a fun game and want to enjoy a not very serious story filled with silly characters and cheesy cliches (not to mention several typos which made me want to grab a red pen) I would recommend Maid of the Dead as long as you get it on sale as there are much more fun survivor style games out there for cheaper. I might have felt different than that if the game came with an artbook and soundtrack as both the art and music are really enjoyable and it feels like a shame to not have such items available or come included with the game, especially at the price point the game is currently going for as of this review.

The point and click genre of games is not a genre I usually dabble in (unless you count the Phoenix Wright titles due to the investigation mode) and the main reason I finally decided to get the game is because it came with the short story which is included in the bonus content folder in the game's files. I had already heard the short story read by Harlan Ellison himself on YouTube and found the story interesting which is why I wanted to have a copy of the short story. (This coming from someone who is not a big reader.)

As for the game itself I did enjoy witnessing the story unfold even though I did have to cave and use a guide to help get to the "good" ending that was added to the game. The only spot that really irritated me was when I had to get the shovel with Gorrister as I had to be positioned just right to actually grab the shovel and not have Gorrister run away instead even though I had the cursor on the shovel. It felt like the hitbox was off. My favorite parts of the game was Harlan Ellison's performance as AM and the individual scenarios each of the five characters had to work themselves through.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is a title I feel is worth picking up because it comes with the game and the short story it was adapted from for a very cheap cost. ($5.99 normally, I got it on sale for $2.09.) Both the game and the short story are worth the time to experience the story they tell. At the very least if you do not want to play the game or read the short story, watch a playthrough of the game or a good video talking about the game and listen to Harlan Ellison read the short story.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream is a story I feel everyone should experience at least once in some form and I am glad I finally played the game myself for the experience even though I prefer the ending to the short story over the "good" ending added for the game.

Even knowing what Doki Doki Literature Club is I still found it to be quite the experience to go through. I ended up liking and feeling for all the characters as I feel they were well written in the main story and also the side stories. That said I enjoyed the side stories more than the main story but it was still an enjoyable experience and I am glad I finally played this game for myself instead of just hearing people talk about it.

The two main things I did not like about the game were: the ghost menu secret which took longer than I liked to unlock due to the random nature of it and a particular scene in Act2 that I felt lasted longer than it needed to. About that scene when I first saw it it hit me and I said "Damn" and as it lingered I did feel the impact of the scene, problem is that for me it lasted too long and the impact started to wear off and I began to wonder when do we get to continue on with the game.

Other than that I found Doki Doki Literature Club to be an enjoyable story with well written characters that I ended up caring about. The game is worth the playthrough for any players who can handle the content that is in the game. The content warnings the game had were not lying and should be followed as it truly is not suitable for children or those who are easily disturbed.

I bought this game on a whim just because it looked interesting and can say Breecell adds a twist to puzzle games that I have never experienced before. In order to get score and clear cells you have to form a square with the cells, this is familiar to something like Puyo Puyo where you have to match four to clear or Columns match three to clear, the twist comes with the fact that unlike those games, Breecell doesn't let you move the cells.

The cells will fall from the top of the screen and the only action you can perform on them at this point is to click on them which in turn forms more cells in the corresponding direction that is indicated on that cell. For example if the cell has a horizontal line and you click it, a new horizontal cell will form on the left and right of that cell.

The game comes with a tutorial to show you the ropes and it is highly recommended that new players do not skip it and play it the first time they pick up Breecell.

Breecell is a fun game worth picking up if you are into puzzle games or looking for a game to nominate for the "Best Game You Suck At Award" because while I find it fun and like to play a quick round here and there, I do indeed suck at it.
