After 30 hours and more to come i can say i really enjoy this game. This game is a looter shooter and that's intentional either you love it or hate it. So if you like sunset overdrives game play with looter shooter mechanics then you will probably enjoy your time with this game. There is more to come in the future and that i the point of this genre and the best part is all content is going to be free your only gonna be missing out on cosmetics if you choose to not buy the battle pass.

Endgame:
The end game is subject to change in the future so take this with a grain of salt. The current at launch end game after you beat the roughly 10 hour long campaign is going into a different universe and completing a series of objectives. Once completed you will be awarded some unique awards you can only get doing these missions which will greatly enhance your build crafting. The harder the mission difficulty the more you progress through the endgame progression and unlock more unique rewards. After 30hrs I still haven't unlocked the highest tier of loot and weapons and im still having a blast playing it.

7/10 would recommend just know your not getting arkham gameplay your getting third person movement looter shooter gameplay and that comes with all the looter shooter launch day jank.

After beating the game on the hardest difficulty and going into my second play through I can recommend this game. No, its not dead space or resident evil and I don't think it was ever trying to be. I am a big fan of survival horror games and I can firmly say this game is very different from everything in the genre. No longer are you running or keeping your distance from the enemies, you are toe to toe and you have to use your dodging and tools to kill every last one of the enemies. Its different and fun once you get used to it. Much like RE 4 in my opinion, weird to get used to at first but once you get the hang of it its super addicting and fun. There is a lot of dodging though like 90% of the game play is that so if your not into that then dont buy it. Just know that your getting into a survival horror game unlike anything you have ever play before I can promise you that.

Story: The story is ok, I didn't like or dislike it. It was enough to keep your character pushing forward. Do everything you can to escape this hell hole. There are many plot holes and unfinished side plots but i think they will be covered in the dlc hopefully. It took me about 10 hours to beat.

Replay value: One of the main things in a survival horror game for me is the replay value. As of the release, this game has very little replay value. No unlockables or new difficulty modes or even a new game plus but they have said that those features would be coming in February 2023. If that is a deal breaker than I would wait until those updates come out. The main reason why you would be replaying the game right now is because you like the combat and you want to upgrade different weapons to their max because the game doesn't give you enough resources to max out every gun. And these guns get pretty insane once you get their final upgrades.

7/10 would recommend and the updates will only make this game better. Unlike any game I have every played before which is hard to find now a days.

UPDATE
They have fixed almost all my issues i had with this game as of October 19! I would now recommend this game and thumbing it up but I still want to keep this review up.




Me and my buddies where talking about Onslaught and I just wanted to get things off my chest after completing it and maxing most the guns and weapons.( I only play on veteran difficulty so it might just be my experience, I have not touched the other difficulties)

Expectations:
TWD Onslaught is not Saints ans Sinners. I was never expecting it to be. I think many people who are buying into this game got spoiled with how good and immersive all the new vr games are and how much detail has been put into them(Boneworks, Saints and sinner, half life alyx). However, I think it is a good and healthy for arcade like games much like Onslaught to release in vr to freshen up the experience. Sometimes you just want to turn on your headset to destroy things much like Arizona Sunshine and Robo Recall which I go back to frequently.

Ranged weapons:
That being said TWD onslaught is not a great game due to the amount of bugs and balance issues in this game. It does not deserve all the negative reviews since half of them are just thumbing it down for not being saints and sinners and the other half didnt even get to the half way point when you start getting good guns. In the Beginning of the game the guns are very weak but they get a lot stronger through out the game. This was intentional I am pretty sure as it gives players a reason to keep playing and upgrading their guns so they can eventually one to two shot walkers to the head. If all the guns in this game one shot to the head people would only be using the base pistol as the other weapons are just clunky compared to it. For people hating on weapons if they played enough they would unlock the revolver which is basically fixes all their complaints as it one taps to the dome and explodes their heads. There is only one flaw with the guns in this game and that is ONLY SOME OF THEM HAVE AP ROUNDS. This makes the guns useless against armored walkers since now you cant even kill them with your guns so what does that make you do? Switch to a melee weapon.

Melee:
The melee in this game feels clunky and idk if its just me and if its by design. I don't feel any weight when swinging these heavy weapons which makes it unsatisfying to kill a walker in this game with melee. Not only that but you cant grab armored zombies. I understand not grabing spiked zombies but the armored ones? They only where Bullet proof vests there necks are still exposed. I am also a believer that the melee weapons in this game are BROKEN. As much as i like shooting the guns the melee weapons how perform the guns in every single way. There is no punishment for using a melee weapon. The gun has so many flaws such as reloading, aiming, early game dmg, armored and spiked zeds, cqb combat, horde clearing, ammo. You know what doesnt have that, melee weapons. You can literally clear out a entire backyard of SPIKED ZOMBIES with just a single melee weapon without getting scratched. A huge horde in front of you? just swing like a mad man with a melee weapon and problem solved. There is no risk reward for using melee weapons. On top of that, they promote this melee spam since a lot of the melee weapons grant bonus loot which is the main drive of the game on kill. There needs to be a risk for using melee weapons as of right now there is none but the guns in this game have a ton of risks and low reward. Also, give these weapons weight it does not feel satisfying waving around a wooden stick that can one tap walkers.

The Horde:
Why is it a red wall of nothing? This game can render in a ton of zombies at once so why not make it idk a actual horde? The only reason why i think they did not make it a actual horde is the player will just mow them down without worry and if so that just shows even the devs know the melee is op in this game. Make the horde a actual walking horde you have to deal with with the suggested balances and maybe it might make it more fun and immersive.

Balancing:
I think I see what they were going for here, I like the idea of switching between guns and melee. It is a healthy dynamic but I think it is executed wrong here. I am fine with melee weapons being op but there needs to be a risk for using them and I propose a stamina system. I get they are trying to go for a more arcadey experience but I think this will do the game good. It will promote the use of guns to deal with zombies and only use melee weapons on the special zeds. Duel wielding, why isnt this in the game? They want you to feel like a badass mowing through zombies but they dont have duel wielding? Let us wield two guns, two melee, a melee and a gun. VR has two hands not one and it does duel wielding better than any other device out there without even trying. Just let the player use both hands and we will do the rest. Give all the guns AP rounds, it is a good concept on paper that you should switch to your melee weapon in order to take down special zeds. This makes game play more interactive but the current state of melee just makes them broken. Since the weapon switch system in this game is a wheel it does not feel satisfying switch weapons. Like once I pull out my machete why would I want to switch back to my other weapons might as well stick with it since I know it can do everything.

In the end TWD onslaught isnt bad, you just have to chew it first in order to swallow. The guns get better in the end but they still get out performed by the melee weapons. The arcadey aspect does not feel rewarding. IDK if I am going to go back and play with game since the replay value isnt that high since the combat itself does not feel satisfying. Unlike Arizona sunshine I go back to that since that gunplay is so good and satisfying same with Robo recall.

Would recommend for $20 or cheaper
