The game is cheap, well made and innovative which is enough to say it's worth trying.

On the technical level it works fine, it doesn't feels at all like an unfinished game although there could be some improvement here and there.
For instance it is a little annoying to find the right lobby for you: the game lacks a matchmaking system and it doesn't let you see the game options before you enter a lobby.

Game-play wise it gives me mixed feeling: I find it visually very compelling, bombarding my foes and seeing my shots break their base feels at the same time evocative and intuitive, it perfectly convey the idea of a fight to me.
On the other hand i am often disappointed by the repetitiveness of many matches. There are indeed many structural elements which limit the strategic dept of the game; let me point out a few of them.
1) the average game length is 10-15 minutes. The game is indeed very fast paced and requires a great ability at micromanaging. This doesn't leave room for thinking and adapting you're plan.
2)there is no depth, literally. The 2 dimension limitation is worsened even further by the small distance by which you are allowed to move in most maps. Little space=little options
3)the game is unforgiving , many games finishes with the first shot fired, and in general there won't be a come back from the loosing player.Aggressive strategies are usually favoured. This is somewhat discouraging if you are trying a new strategy. Also there are no "secondary objectives" , you never have to decide your priority target(there always is only one);this results again in a lower depth.
4)the general small number of variables affecting each game, and the small time you have to think, forces you to always use the same layout for your fort, further reducing the number of variable. I also must mention that there are not that many viable options for how to build your fort. The only thing you really have to decide is what weapon do you want to use(which is at least something).
5)The game is balanced for competitive 1v1, most of the game you'll find are casual 4v4.Many weapons looses relevance in 4v4, and in general your actions will be diluted inside your team's, to the point you don't even understand if you are playing well or not.
In non competitive 1v1 many options looses relevance because the players do not have the proper micro skill.

Despite all that if you dig trough all this and reach the bottom of Pandora's box you will find some hope for this game to achieve greatness in the form of a sandbox. The devs have made it extremely easy to exchange custom made maps and also custom made mods. This could potentially bring an infinite number of options to the game. Unfortunately most modded games are either too messed up to be playable or too close to the original game to be note worthy. There are exceptions and i manage to find occasionally some balanced games which get me thinking on new creative ways to play.

I also should mention that there are 2 dlcs (which you are generously allowed to play even without buying). The dlcs are good and definitely improve the game.

Last and least i'd like to address the campaign: it's nice but it's not the reason why you want to buy the game,
