The original 2005 title is my favorite game of all time, so I knew it couldn't beat that because of nostalgia.

Although this remake is good and made some nice improvements throughout, there are some short comings that were not present in the original.

So many things whether it be pacing, characters, character design, voice acting, boss battles, locations, and even some gameplay elements that just felt better executed in the 2005 game.

New players obviously won't have anything to compare this remake to and will probably really enjoy their experience.
But die hard fans of the original may share some of my opinions on the changes.


A few things that bother me most:

1.) Voice Acting:
The voice acting in this game is almost passable, but certain characters have such bad voice acting it's distracting.
Main offenders being Ada, Krauser, and Saddler (if I was critiquing character changes, I would also throw in Salazar for being much more watered down).
Ada's voice actress just had nothing to give. It was painfully bland and boring.
Krauser's voice did not at all suit his design. I implore everyone to go listen to the 2005 Krauser and compare the voices...
Saddler, aside from having his character negatively changed, is another victim of questionable voice casting.

2.) Knife Durability:
I know a lot of returning fans have expressed they like the knife changes, but I did not.
Mainly the durability system, it just feels like a waste of in-game currency to have to constantly repair it.
At least you can unlock Leon's OG indestructible knife by completing the Revolution Wind-up challenge.

3.) Specific Boss Fights:
This one is more difficult to explain...
I noticed it with the Del Lago boss fight. Everything looked great, but something was off.
Thankfully most boss battles were almost entirely the same, but one that I absolutely despised was Salazar.
They completely reworked the battle and design of the boss and I hated it.
The original was so iconic and has easily been my favorite boss design since I was a kid.

As I said, it's a good game even if you're a returning fan of the original.
I just personally don't agree with some of the core changes that were made.
When I finally finished the game I did not feel good about it.
Once I got to the castle, I just kept wanting to go back and play the original instead.
