Boneworks - Highly anticipated physics puzzle adventure

Boneworks gained a lot of attention before its highly anticipated release on December 10th.
An employee of Stress Level Zero and a creator of YouTube channel called "Node", Brandon Laatsch managed to gain enormous amount of hype for their upcoming title: Boneworks.
Now that the game has finally arrived, i can wholeheartedly say:
it did live up to its expectations.

In the story you are an employee of Monogon Industries and you have to enter corrupted artificial intelligence operating system called MythOs and try to solve what is wrong with it. Your coworkers seem to be long gone and you must proceed alone towards the clock tower of MythOs to debug the system.

Everything in Boneworks is based on physics and you must interact with objects like you would in real life. If object is really heavy, lets say a huge metal shelf, you must act like its heavy and move your arms slower. Great example of this kind of slower movement is using the sledgehammer; you must use your both hands and put some force behind it with big/slowish arcing movement. It's really hard to describe but once you try it yourself you will get it.

Core gameplay consists of semi complex puzzles, looting for ammo (which is also used as currency besides it's obvious use case), fighting against nullbodies, cleanup crews and vr-headset-looking headcrabs while adventuring through the corrupted operating system.

Anything you find in the world of Boneworks can in theory be used as a weapon; rip planks off from boarded door, take a chair from office or should you prefer a more classic melee weapon like a crowbar? Game has collection of knives, swords, hammers and all kinds of fun things to flail at your enemies. Same goes for the firearms; pistols, submachine guns, rifles and even some physics based weapons.

Graphically Boneworks has its own simple yet pleasing style. You are inside an operating system and most of the time it feels and looks like it too. Everything has this industrial-like dark style to it, which fits the game very well.

Sound design of this game is on another level. The feeling of space around you, as you hear the sounds is immersive and very well executed. Guns have oomph and melee gives a satisfying smack when you hit your target. Even before the release of the game, i loved the soundtrack of this game; dark synthwave goodness. I can't praise enough how well it fits the theme of this game. There are quieter more calm songs for times like puzzle solving or traversing the level, but then there are the songs that get your blood flowing when intense combat sequence starts.

Overall the game is a dream come true for me. Decent story, great gameplay, replay value (sandbox mode and secrets), good length for a vr-game priced like this (i completed the campaign in about 8.5 hours). I highly recommend this game for anyone who owns vr-headset and has some experience with smooth locomotion.

This is my Game of the Year. Thank you SL0.
