Early Access Review
At the time of writing this I just completed Act 1 of cruel. Enjoyed every minute of it so far. I'm not a hardcore player so the frequent balancing changes didn't affect me. The story so far is interesting enough but the major hook is the combat/skill/gear progression. It definitely gets you into a 'one more map' loop.

Early Access Review
First things first: I am a Kickstarter backer who receive a copy to test pre-Early Access.

For me the best parts of the game are:
-Micro-Progression: enemies gain little variations which add to the challenge but don't feel unfamiliar as you yourself activate your slotted gems. You still feel more powerful as you get deeper into the run but the enemies stay a threat.
-Solid Combat: Its just fun to kill stuff with the abilities you have.
- Weapon and Build Variety: Gem and Rune combinations can give you a ton of different and unique-feeling ways to play the game. (this is my favorite part of the entire game)
-Armor skins and dyes: I think there are only 4 armor sets right now but there are a TON of dye colors. Add three colors per armor slot, you can make yourself look pretty dank.
-Stability: I've only crashed once in all my time playing and its because I left the game paused and tabbed out for a long ass time.

Cons:
-Soundtrack: Some levels have music, some don't. I'm assuming it will be added down the road.
--Some sound effects aren't intuitive(metal clang when attacking a slime goob), some are missing(teleport/teleport placement).
-Exiting Game: about 40% of the time the game will post a little windows popup-- "Rogues Like Us has stopped responding" --kind of a non-issue since you're closing the game anyway, but thought I'd mention it.

Concerns new players might have:
-Weapons: it might feel slow going at first, but just wait until you get your first Rare(blue) weapon in a loot crate, they are much better than the starter weapons (and should be).
--I got my first blue weapon after my second run through i think? Doesn't take very long.
-Content: Its early access, so there is currently 5 dungeon levels to play through. Imo this is plenty for now bc I am having a good time just experimenting with new builds all the time, but for those who want more there is plenty coming (source: oddByte livestream).

Overall I would definitely recommend this game. It is very a enjoyable indie game and honestly quite addicting, I got way more hooked than I expected to.

Fantastic game, with tons of subtle things that set a new standard for upcoming rpgs. Subplot quests are so immersive they feel critical to the main story (of course they aren't but youll find yourself doing them because theyre so compelling) a few minor issues with the pc version with bugs and crashing but this far after release they seem to have been mostly patched up. Would definitely recommend anyone who is looking for a good open world action rpg
