I thouroughly enjoyed the series, and this installment was my favorite. Playing as Darren before the ♥♥♥♥ hits the fan is fun, even if you don't like him at first. I appreciate the old school design of seeing your character move and interact with the environment (♥♥♥♥ you Myst!) The voice acting is pretty decent, the comments are believable. Using and combining items to solve problems is much preferred over a lifetime of playing point and clicks which feature lateral thinking and esoteric solutions. I love Monkey Island 2, but hate it at the same time.

I got stuck on the first day and had to cheat. I feel ashamed. I didn't think to use the shovel to clear the ash because I was using the shovel as a weapon, and that must therefore be it's only use. Stupid me.

Witching aint easy. It takes a real man to witch. Although Geralt is sterile, so I can't really say he's a real man. In fact, if I didn't know any witching better, I'd say Geralt is a long-haired, seedless hippie. I recommend it so you can say you've played a Polish RPG and be the envy of all your friends. I'd let Shani polish my sausage any day.

Sick of hack n' slash action games posing as the real deal? This is a great way for PC gamers to play a turn-based, strategic RPG, which unfortunately, has been a dying genre for the platform since the 90s. I don't like that it eschews a world map (a terrible trend in Japanese RPGs). However, some of the areas are vast enough to give the feel of a world map, even if you are just picking names of places to go. This isn't as good as Final Fantasy XII, the only FF that wasn't garbage after IX, but it gets the job done. The battle system could have offered more control, but it adds a different kind of strategy with who to target, and when to use what commands you are given the option to use. The texture pop-in of the UT3 engine is bad, and the cutscenes look like crap even after forcing v sync with a third-party app, but the towns and the remnants look cool. There are also many sidequests, and you'll probably need to do a lot.

Edit: "This is a great way for PC gamers to play a turn-based, strategic RPG, which unfortunately, has been a dying genre for the platform since the 90s."

The genre came back.
