This is a surprisingly fun game. It's an Adventure point 'n' click/RPG hybrid, like Quest For Glory back in the day. It's one of those games that doesn't really hold your hand, so you have to turn your brain on. Once you realize "it's one of those types of games", it becomes immersive. Great for a coffee buzz (+Bailey's Irish Cream!)

It's a great homage to Suikoden, with a bit of a Trails of Cold Steel feel. I've heard a sequel is in the works, which is great news!

The big draw is there are over 100 recruitable characters to join your battle party, or fill jobs at your growing HQ. Ultimately, it is a JRPG with a war plot, so there are also strategic battles with characters controlling units.

The dialogue is fun, and makes the characters seem unique. Don't let the "bad localization" people convince you it's trash, it's just not as direct of a translation as some would have wanted.

This is a really well done remaster of the Langrisser games. If you are into the Fire Emblem series, you will love this. The remake now shows you were branching paths are, so you can make the choice explore a different path for an achievement. You can switch between old school graphics and music to the remaster in the menu.

The only 2 issues I had were: I need to use MSI Afterburner to keep the FPS at 60; it was jumpy without using it. And also, the Hard Modes are unlocked behind beating the game at least once. This kinda sucks for a first playthrough because the game is super easy on default (at least if you are used to Fire Emblem).

Great game, made even greater with the Seventh Heaven Mod Manager and like 30 mods... You can even use a mod for Rebirth Sound Effects, and Battle Voices!

Old-school, inventory-bulging fun.

FF IX is one of the great, underrated Final Fantasy games, along with FF XII. An odd plot, with manufactured black mages and a queen trying to kill her daughter, but also a great equipment/skill system keeps you playing. The PC remaster is decent on its own, but the Moguri mod really makes this ♥♥♥♥ pop. It offers a massive graphics overhaul, and also 60 FPS and widescreen support and font changes and all sorts of other shiny bubbles if you want. Highly recommended.

One awful puzzle killed this game for me. The theater puzzle. So up to this point, I had not used a hint or looked at a walkthrough. Frankly, the second I cave and look at a walkthrough, I stop playing a point n click because I've already lost the challenge, and I lose interest. So i basically try to never cheat in a point n click or use a hint system, so I stay interested. I had figured out basically 95% of this puzzle on my own, but what I didn't know is if I have to do the scenes in order. The trick is, you find a code, and the code of numbers refers to the pages of the screenplay, Got it. Then you reenact the scenes, using the levers. Got it. I had finally gotten all the scenes on stage, found some feathers, but still the trapdoor never opened. Sure I had this thing figured out, I tried the scenes in order again. Still no trapdoor. I figured out maybe the pictures meant something, because Scene 4 is listed in the 6 4 7 4 code twice, but the picture is different. At this point, I had no idea if I had to do the scenes over again in order, or if I just had to replicate the scene I missed. So I caved, and looked at the hint system. Only to realize, I had already done the puzzle correctly to a T. As I was reading the hints of everything I already did, I exited and tried to solve it myself again. Went back to the hints, and still, it appeared I had done everything the hints said to do already. Then I got the Casual Gamer achievement for checking the hints too much. ♥♥♥♥ you game.

I call it a Baldur's Gate 1 clone, but since there are so few that are this exquisitely done, that's a compliment.

From managing the spell books, to exiting an area in a certain direction to open the next map, it feels very BG-like. Also, deciding which of my companions to use for which quest; my own created characters? Or the game's story characters like Jade or Hamlin. This reminded me of BG1 as well.

It has a "greed" system, as well as good/evil and fame levels. The greed meter seems to affect the game far more than the fame and good/evil bar, but I might be wrong. At a certain point (I was greedy as hell) greed changes the gameplay to have random misers attacking you in town, and merchants charging huge prices. Also, characters seemed to mention it.

Overall, a really good CRPG to sate that addiction, and potential for an improved sequel!
