EDIT 09.08.2024 - With the recent change in the game's banning algorithm, all of the bots and other issues have subsided entirely. Right now, the game is the most playable it's been in the last 5-6 years. I have a reason to launch this game, since now I know that it's not going to be the sniper bots killing me, but my own incompetence. Now, I can enjoy the game as I have been since 2012.

But the issue of the new players being barred from using voice chat and commands still remains. And that has to change. Valve, with the first major victory against the bots, I implore you to reconsider your stance on this. No other game locks the ability to call out important game objectives behind a paywall. TF2 is a free game, this can't stand

Early Access Review
This game, in its current state, is a niche clicker. Nothing more, nothing less.

The radio is just a few radio stations, one of them in German and one in what appears to be Russian. The potential for worldbuilding is there, like with Angry Greg and other radio hosts. Perhaps some community hosts?

The cars? Absolutely mesmarizing to me. The Trabant is quirky and bad, just like its real life counterpart, the recently added Volkswagen with its diesel engine is just as throaty as its real life counterpart. The Ikarus - Just as massive and ominous as..... its real life counterpart. Oh and you can kind of recreate the classic Black Lada for that spooky Eastern European creepypasta.

Its a tedious drive along a curvy and twisty road to your mother some 5000 km away. It's not as straightforward if you're just pressing W - Slugging up a hill with your character constantly j--- h a n d l i n g the shift stick at 20 km/h is not the best idea.

Before the food and water update, I honestly didn't see a whole heck of a point just driving along - I had no reason to stop at the Diner, since water was basically only used to top off my radiator, and with a pristene one, even that went away. Now I actually have to keep myself lubricated as well as the car. That alone made the drive more interesting and I can't wait for the game to introduce more wear and tear to the vehicles you drive.
Perhaps your tires can get punctured by you going offroad for too long, or perhaps the engine can choke up if you keep it at high RPM's for too long. Or perhaps the shifting temperatures can slowly damage the car's radiator? So many ideas to make the Drive more interesting and more Jalopy-esque

Only game that I made a guide for so far, the only one i got truly invested in as of recent. It's a blast to just drive along, listening to anything on Youtube that you have on your Overlay or in the background in Opera or Firefox. The optimization is not really that great. The graphics are sub-par, if you're into that sort of thing and the sound design is quite simple.

The AI... is just as ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idiotic as the bugs you'll find - The rabbits that are supposed to be your main enemy follow a quite simplistic pathing. They can kill themselves easily if they even look at the wall you're behind the wrong way. They are capable of ending your journey in one hit, though, which makes the combat quite quirky and honestly not my cup of tea. Either you shoot them with a literal BB gun, an assault rifle (which does one shot them, but you are forced to look for one), or a revolver. There is also an option of fighting them with your melee, but... I found out the hard way that it's rather inconsistent in that aspect. Which is why I am glad that the "Peaceful" option is there.

With the multiplayer being somewhat worked on, I can't wait to see what ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ shenanigans I'll find myself getting into with some random stranger I meet 1625 km into my journey, with his car broken down and him waving at me to let him in.

It's a dumb, stupid little game. It's a quirky little game. But it has something in it that keeps me anchored to it despite its many flaws. I am not sure if its a game for everyone, but it is for me, which is why I recommend it. If it's on sale, definitively give it a whirl. Who knows, perhaps those 2 hours might convince you to stay and wait. After all, it's but a

9+/10
+wyżej
