More and more disappointed with this game, 1.0 was underwhelming, gold edition is a joke and they've already turned this game into Steel Division 2 with all the dlcs that you can preorder with gold (at basically no discount btw).

Not only did they choose one of the most covered and over done periods and theaters of the cold war, but they didn't even bother releasing the game at 1.0 with every division and nation that would have been present in this badly written cold war gone hot scenario to make it interesting and unique from other cold war games. Instead they decided to withhold a lot of interesting, iconic and actually unique (not just reskins) divisions to sell as dlcs instead. It's obvious that they purely want to milk the game like they did SD2, I made the mistake of buying a bunch of dlcs for SD2, I hope to God I don't make the same mistake for this game (I'm going to :( ).

Regiments and Broken Arrow are/will be much better RTSs with publishers that are sound.

Just get Broken Arrow when that comes out, it promises to offer a lot more fun at launch and its past two betas were really fun.

Warno suffers strongly from not having proper competition but that will change when Broken Arrow comes out.

Of course I want to see this game succeed, it still plays pretty fun but that's tainted by how the devs deal with this game. Mods made the game a little bit more fun for me, but then they screwed over modding with the last updates and barely any mods work now.

Edit: With a proper modding tool now released for Warno, I'm much more hopeful for this game. They've fixed it and added the ability to import models with the new tool which means people will be able to mod in whatever they want. Modders are already doing some amazing stuff and game has improved considerably since I reviewed it at 1.0. The DLCs are still heinous in amount and price but that's not going to change anytime soon (still mad that all the cool stuff is behind a paywall). Would recommend it now purely based on the modding tool.

I have played this game for so long and as much as I love it and hope the game keeps growing and getting bigger and better, the greed and grind has to stop somewhere. I'm sure this issue is much worse for people who don't have premium time like I do which I pay for once a year during sales, but even I, a player with premium and premium vehicles is struggling to make more than 40k SL on Air Realistic Battle games where I get 4 kills (which is not insignificant and used to give way more rewards). If I'm struggling with my premium time and vehicles, then I can only imagine how other players are struggling without it.

For around 2 thousand of my hours were spent playing the game free to play on and off since 2015, I only started to put money into the game in last few years because I enjoyed the game so much, and it become incredibly clear to me that without putting money into this game I would have never gotten anywhere with my grind. I got to around 5.7 in two to three major nations without money, and in the span of a year I've ground 3 nations to top tier. Why does a player need to pay frankly stupid amounts to be able to enjoy around 40 to 50% of the game?

If I want to go play another nation I would have to sink at least 60 dollars/euros into a premium to grind out ONE tech tree, be that air/ground/navy/helicopters. That is 60 to 70 dollars per tree to be able to fully experience what a nation has to offer, and that is too much for the average player.

Too many people are joining in because the trailers look sick and they are sold on lies about how you'll get to experience and play amazing modern vehicles when in reality they'll never get there because they are not fortunate enough to be able to spend more than 20$ on game. The monetization is disgusting.

Economy issues aside (there are better people to listen to, to understand why the economy of this game is so bad) I'm not even having as much fun as I used in games anymore. I find myself being driven more by the allure of unlocking and progressing through new trees and nations more than actually playing with the amazing vehicles I unlock. The game modes, especially at top tier, don't facilitate fun or skill or proper teamwork, it all boils down to maybe slinging an early FOX 1 missile at an enemy high up and then diving into a huge fur ball with FOX 2s where you're more likely to die or kill friendlies more than enemies.

Economy needs to be fixed, the game modes and gameplay need to be made more fun and the game needs to be way more welcoming to new players.

That isn't to say this game has no good points, the sheer size and scale of this game is something no other can offer. Graphics are constantly being improved and models are well made and beautiful. Mechanics are added and implemented over time and the fact that this game gets a major update every 2 or 3 months is incredible. Too bad most of the amazing hard work of many at Gaijin is ruined by the greedy monetization and business practices of a few.

(some stuff fixed, still wouldn't recommend to people who aren't willing to pay for premium time and premium vehicles, on sale of course)

Playing this game was like watching paint dry.

Which is a shame because I watched the trailer for this game and thought it looked interesting and worth a try. I didn't even have to buy the game because I won it in a giveaway! So you could imagine my cheer as I started up the game, basked in the commie blocs of Berlin and run towards the tangent whatevers.

Then after 5 minutes I was suddenly not in beautiful and interesting Berlin, but some alternate reality that tried way too hard to capture Half Life 2's City 17, except failing to in every way. The beginning was still interesting but started to lose it's luster as the combat's mediocrity become apparent.

I was going to have to suffer this gameplay for the next few hours? Yes I would.

Enemy variety that was boring, and gunplay that was so basic I would have probably had more fun playing a Roblox shooter.

That was fine, surely the story was something that I could immerse myself into and enjoy instead. Spoiler alert, it wasn't. I honestly felt like we could have followed Walter's story and the no doubt harsh, brutal, and intense siege of the city, the name of which I have already forgotten and that would have been so much better. Not to mention, the entire game was so forgettable and the plot predictable it hurt when I got to the ending and watched it all go by. The game tried way too hard to push across intellectual narratives and foreshadowing through the cutscenes, but it all fell flat with how bad they were.

Of course our husband had to be the secret villain this entire time, wouldn't have it any other way. ))

At the end of the day, I can still feel the effort that was put into this, I'm not writing this strongly worded review because I hated the game, just because I wish it was better. The setting was a good foundation for a story that could have inspired me and others with it's message. I wish we could have explored the relationship our character had with our husband so it would have actually meant something when the ending happened, but alas this was not meant to be.

Brennt was good chap and I will miss him. 10/10 was a better character than the main character.

A great game that I've sunk a ton of hours into. Rough around the edges but I've still enjoyed every bit of time I've spent on it.

It's the spiritual successor to Men of War Assault Squad 2 which I also spent a not insignificant amount of time on and it manages to hold that same place in heart that MOWAS2 did. The modding community is great and I hope that people take this game as far as they did in terms of modding for MOWAS2. The devs are also a bunch of cool people who truly have a passion for the RTS genre and this little niche they've become a part of. Especially since half of them used to be mod makers for MOWAS2 themselves.

10/10 would cause my friend to seethe and malde so hard that he negatively reviews the game again.

Now I am going to be completely honest here, as opposed to sugarcoating things.

The game has a long way to go, though that isn't saying much with the state it is in. I found the game to be relatively stable so that wasn't an issue for me. What was however, was kind of important. The story was interesting at first but incredibly shallow, it failed to capture any original sense of wonder. The time period while not covered often in RPGs if at all, is not used to its full potential, the game seems to be satisfied with just being a very bad, third person, Kingdom Come Deliverance rip off. There was too much going from point A to point B without anything happening, an honest to god walking simulator. They could have easily shaved off some of the blatant padding in the game but it's not that big of a deal compared to every other glaring issue so far.

That is not to say I do not see any good things about the game, I think it could definitely go to become the next Greedfall.

Some of the voice acting was done well but not with good direction, it has no actual emotion or passion to it. The main character is for all intents and purposes just a watered down Henry from KCD, which takes away even more from the game as its own original title. The main three musketeers were forgettable at best, and boring at their worst. You had the Leader(You), the grizzled Veteran and the green faced Brat. I've forgotten their names, and I really don't care to bother learning them.

Combat is placeholder, and that is fine, but everything else might as well be placeholder too with how bad they are. The only finished things I have seen so far is the Main characters' models. Another diamond in the rough for this "game" is the old man who you converse with at the homesteads.

If the aim of the developers of this game was to get some hype going for this game, then they've somehow managed it, though I doubt it's from any actual skill on their part but rather just how easy and untapped this niche market is to corner.
