A fantastic and stylish isometric hack-and-slash game. The gameplay is tight and rewards skill, and the unlocks for the most part feel very rewarding.

The story is told entirely through visuals - there is not a lot of talking in this game. It's vague, but the small details of information you receive through meeting characters combines with the striking level design to make the player wonder what happened to this broken world.

The music is also fantastic, the electronic tracks perfectly set the mood and are catchy enough to not get on your nerves when you die to the same boss ten times in a row.

Overall, this is a very solid game. The regular price is fair, but definitely pick up if it goes on sale.

Awesomenauts is a MOBA. Well, sort of. If you took a platformer/shooter and mashed it into DotA or League of Legends, and sprinkle a bit of 80s Saturday morning cartoons on top, and you'll have Awesomenauts. It certainly is unique.

Gameplay

Awesomenauts plays like a 2d shooter, with abilities and perks that you can level up like in MOBA titles. Teams spawn on either side of a two-level map, with a goal to destroy the enemy base. There ist a leveling system in matches, but you buy and upgrade your abilities with Solar, the equivalen to match gold. This means it's a little harder to get "fed," as levels are more for lategame scaling than anything else. That's not to say it isn't possible for a team to get "fed," however comebacks are still possible. Even the tankiest of tanks can still be taken down fairly quickly. The turrets (towers) are impassable until you destroy them, which are difficult to take down alone as they do massive damage very quickly. Combat itself is fast-paced, and rewards speed and accuracy. Many heroes have skillshots which are incredibly satisfying to combo properly.

Features

Awesomenauts has a cartoonish art style that reminds me of 80s sci fi shows. It can be off-putting to some, but I find it unique and enjoyable. There are 18 heroes currently available with the base game, and another four and three with the two DLC expansions. Each hero has their own unique personality and backstory, and they are so incredibly different you'll never have problems telling them apart. You unlock new heroes and different skill perks by progressing through a skill path, which you can progress through fairly quickly. Plus, each hero has their own theme! I wish more games did that.

Future

Awesomenauts still gets regular updates, with new heroes and maps still being added. The devs even organize tournaments from time to time, with decent prize pools. The community is small compared to games like League of Legends or DotA, but it is still very active, and you'll have no problem finding matches.

TL;DR Awesomenauts is a fresh take on the MOBA genre, with a unique aesthetic and an arcadey but fun combat system. Although the player pool is small, it is still active, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a unique spin on this type of game!

If you could give a "Maybe" rating to a game, it would probably be Warface. Warface can be fun at times, but as soon as you start to enjoy yourself, you get snagged behind the paywall of expiring gear that, until you build up a large amount of currency, ingame and paid, is not permanent.

It is incredibly frustrating to work up to a great weapon, have fun playing it, then log on in a few days to see "Item XX has expired." Not only that, but unless you have better weapons and gear, get prepared to be dying. A lot. Anyone with a half-decent aim and the best weapons will completely obliterate a more skilled player with lesser gear.

The game also still looks like it could be a browser game. Even maxed out, it just doesn't look that great.

TLDR: The game is moderately fun, but held back by pay-to-win issues, browser graphics, and an incredibly frustrating item-expiration system.

One of the most fast-paced and skil-based games I've played. Kills are much more satisfying than in something like COD or Battlefield. Although there is a high learning curve, you will still be having fun from the very beginning. Also, this game will improve your FPS skill greatly! Leading targets, strafing, keeping the target in sight, you'll never have problems with it again. If you're up for a challenge, get this game!
