bro this is literally one of the best games of all time. If you've made it through enough reviews to see this, then just buy the game already!

Straight up, one of the most enjoyable flight games out there. My first playthrough was on hard, and it fit right in the sweet spot of being difficult yet not overwhelming. The game is (on this difficulty, as well as mercenary) much more challenging than ace combat, and the harder fought victories yield a grand sense of accomplishment. The last boss is one of my favorite video game fights of all time now, though even the normal AIs seemed significantly more intelligent than they are in other titles. The fact that your AI teammates actually try to win the level as well is refreshing, as it feels less like a solo campaign and more like you're part of an actual flight group.

The game does not look as good as a AAA flight title like ace combat, though it has more than its share of good scenery and interesting lighting. The devs also toned down the orange, which was pretty overpowering in the later levels of the campaign.

The aircraft handling is second to none. As a keyboard and mouse player, comparing this game to anything other than warthunder would see it in a different league. Mouse aim allows you to have full control over the camera and aircraft as the same time, with both being as precise as your hand. The aircraft float a little, but are very predictable and aiming in this mode is remarkably easy and responsive.

TLDR: Tremendously fun aircraft handling, great bosses and fights overall, looks good and is cheap compared to other games of the same quality. Sets out to be a better ace combat, and does it wonderfully. 8.5/10.

oooooooh boy I'll write a review as well I guess. I started playing in 2013, (only recently i picked up the version on steam for convinience) and as time has passed this game has developed extremely well. The new models for aircraft and tanks are stunning, the maps are beautiful, the shading is fantastic and the most recent patch included new sounds for other people planes and helicopters that sounds incredibly real. I've gotten a hold of rank V german and russain aircraft, rank IV german tanks, rank V russain tanks, and more. I've spend many a dollar on this game.
I cannot reccomend it.
Recently, Gaijin has made numerous mistakes in regards to their playerbase and how they handle their community. There was once a time where this game had over 100,000 players online at once, but those days are long since past. Slowly but surely, there has been more and more pay to play aspects introduced which makes the game less enjoyable for new players, or players who simply dont want to have to play to be competitive. Things like bushes that you almost HAVE to pay for WILL without a doubt increase your vehicles performance, and a slow shift has continued to make paying to grind almost nessesary. I would reccomend holding off on buying this game for at least a month or two, by that point check back and see if the developers have bandaged their public relations. OTHER THAN THAT, there are issues in this game. Long range combat is a nightmare at high teirs, shells are invisible and tanks dissapear. The damage direction indicator will give you a random direction as to where you were shot, instead of actually telling you where the invisible shell came from. Vehicles are expensive to repair, and at high teir it is difficult to make money, even with a premium account. Gaijin claims to make their vehicles realistic, but there are many examples where this is untrue, like a horton with 30mm guns, a botched FJ4B model, missing shells from the abrams, a diluted Leopard 2A4 (doesnt perform NEARLY as well as it should), and many more small issues. I get that this game is a GAME, not a SIMULATION, but there is no doubt in my mind that these balancing issues could be avoided if they just put more thought into them in the first place. Also helicopters are awful (super weak to aircraft/spaa/normal tanks/other helis/boats) and the ships are a joke, dont get this game for them as they are terrible and certainly far from fun, as well as both ships and helicopters being locked behind a paywall.

Hopefully this review isnt taken down, I've heard that the less carefully worded ones have been.

I was looking for a game like this for a long time. Something that demands pure teamwork. Guns of Icarus is the best game out there for working with other people, and the community is overwhelmingly welcoming because of it. I would recommend this game to anyone, its very forgiving to new players and super fun. No matter how you put it, you just cant say that a crew of four people working on ONE airship to shoot down other crews of four isnt awesome.
