My Experience
I don't remember how I discovered Zero-K years before it even came to steam, but I couldn't forget about it.
It's a very memorable game thanks to its unique features like terraforming (literally manipulting the map), multiple factories each with their own unique units for fancy tactics (no teams so you can do anything your opponent can and vice-versa), commanders that can be upgraded to become pretty powerful (unlike in SupCom where they feel obnoxiously weak after the early game), and its great controls and UI which I'm still learning new things about (line-moving, AI macro, surrounding one building with others, etc.).
While I've discovered that I'm actually really bad at RTS games (and multitasking in general), I still find Zero-K fun because its very deep so I keep learning new things about it; I mostly enjoy seeing the uniqueness of each unit and how they add extra flavor to their factories as well as learning new interface commands (Hint: try to do things with a combination of Shift, Space, Ctrl, or Alt because that's how you do the fancy stuff).

Complaints about negative reviews
For those that are new to Zero-K or complain about the old-looking interface/graphics and the difficult UI and controls: just keep trying and keep learning and get use to the game. I feel like the people who complain about the looks, controls, and UI were those that gave up and never really tried to get into the game in the first place and were put off by initial first impressions. Shame on them. I mean, there's an option in the game to fight an "idle AI" which is basically sandbox so you can mess around and learn about the interface, controls, and units that each factory produces. I see negative reviews and think "Did they even try to understand and enjoy this game?" If they didn't enjoy this game they should give a proper "I didn't like the game because of this..." review instead of a vague "The UI sucks" review.
