Early Access Review
I've met probably half of the people on my friends list from this game. Tons of funny people, dope dudes and also absolute weirdos on every night, I love it. Hands down my favorite chill out kinda game or virtual hangout for those after hours kinda nights when you got nobody to chill with but feel like chatting.

There's usually always at least one full server and countless condos to visit, also dozens of actual games & gamba.

Nice putt-putt!

So I only got about 2 hours on here but I've played this game at least five times through over the last decade. Absolute classic. Only reason I'm back into it now was because the remake didn't quite scratch my RE itch (RE2 was a much better remake imo, hopefully 1 will get the same treatment with all the cheese included).

As far as I'm concerned and the OG still holds up and is what I would recommend over the remake, let alone if you're a long-time gamer. Scratches the same nostalgia that Demon Souls/DS 1&2 give for me, KOTOR too but that's a different genre entirely. This game just triggers that part of my brain in the same way and I love it for that.

Overall though the gameplay is a masterpiece still and progression is felt throughout the game, second run through on professional difficulty nets great rewards and although it doesn't change much in terms of enemy placement, loot, et cetera, it's still even more enjoyable than the first run through.

Base campaign is 12-20 hours I'd say depending on your familiarity but mercenaries & NG+ probably bring the game up to 40-50 hours if you're intent on 100%'ing it. Just a fantastic game to come back to every couple years.

So I'm gonna sum this up through a buncha keywords, ahem:

Always online, SBMM across the board, shadow bans, PERMA bans, constant crashes, Code of Conduct, hardly any maps, "live service", false advertising, battle pass, constant resets because something needs to update?

And on top of that all private matches don't even work on launch. I should've known this game would be ♥♥♥♥ because I stopped supporting Blizzard shortly after they were acquired but I couldn't help myself since I loved 2019 MW so much.

Don't get me wrong, the game is fun and good when it works but the way that they are handling this is absolutely ridiculous. Last CoD I'll ever purchase, and for $70-100 too, AAA gaming is getting ludicrous.

One of the best chill games ever to have graced the market. Phenomenal music & character, up there in top 5 videogame OSTs imo.

Anyone can enjoy it but it's got some challenge when going for perfect scores.

Please, please, PLEASE remaster Katamari Forever next!

I'm changing this review back to positive as performance issue haven't been plaguing me anywhere near as severely (and more importantly no invisible enemies thus far either) with the last patch. I pray it keeps up and I'm not speaking too soon.

To anyone reading about the performance issues, I highly recommend updating Nvidia drivers if you're on GTX because that improved my performance a TON. I'm pretty low spec, 1060 3gb & only 8 gig RAM but I get a steady 40 fps on high settings (low texture) with a couple exceptions (not sure what causes it) in the open world. I will say though that the framerate was pretty variable before I capped it there.

It's exactly what you expect coming from FromSoft, excellence. I'm 7 hours in and have only scratched the surface but I know this'll be another 1000+ hour game for me.

I've spent more time exploring than progressing the story, it strikes me similar to Breath of The Wild in that aspect. Everytime I get to a point of interest I leave a message, look to the horizon and am on my way to the next one. Graphically the game is phenomenal.

After another few dozen hours I'll come back to revise this in detail. The takeaway is that it's exactly what you expect FromSoft to achieve and more.

I probably should mention the crafting mechanic too which is pretty meh to me and a bit of a cliche in games these days. The only majorly significant thing you would use it to craft is the item that allows co-op, however the resources are so common and not out of the way that it's not a bothersome mechanic.

Super reminiscent of the SSX/Dave Mirra games to me, slightly reminiscent of SKATE too. Highly addictive. Makes me wanna go back to SSX3 and see how it holds up.

This game is great though, I've put 9.2 hours in just the first two days owning it. The future looks promising too assuming the devs stay with it (and that's not to say there isn't enough content already, there is). Apart from some slight oversights, the only features that I really hope are added in the future are pegs and grind obstacle, an option to enable player collision, and lastly an actual race gamemode. This game is all about style but I'm a little surprised that a proper race mode isn't available.

To keep it brief: One of the few games nowadays that seems to have the majority of players on comms and communicating. I love riding into battle with your squad/team and getting to know everyone over the course of the battle.

On top of that it's very immersive, particularly when your squad lead is exmilitary.

The other biggest compliment I could give this game is sound design, phenomenal.

If you loved ARMA 2-3 or Project Reality and the combat those games offered, Squad is an improvement upon both and a fantastic successor.

This game's development cycle is probably the most absurd thing I've seen in gaming (bar AAA). I'm someone who fell in love with the mod and standalone STILL doesn't hold a candle to it's functionality, features, or fun factor after SEVEN YEARS (almost 8!) in development. Hell, barely anything in terms of the actual gameplay has changed over those seven years except now it seems that I find even less loot.

Don't get me wrong, they have added features over time. Features that were promised at launch (as well as a bunch of nonsense features nobody asked for) but hey, at least they got in right? Well next to nothing they added works properly and the die-hard players rely heavily on a number of mods to get the game to an enjoyable state.

On top of that Bohemia is a terrible company who doesn't deserve a dime out of your wallet. If you don't believe me look at what they did to ARMA 3, Ylands, and I've no doubt their other recent releases follow the pattern. Bohemia Interactive exerts as little effort as possible for a premium price.

I could seriously go on and on about the bs this game has put forth over the years but final verdict is that the base game is miserable to play.
