I've never written a review for anything, nor have I been compelled to until today when I went to try out labor of love and Steam asked if I would recommend this to other players. It is the best game I have ever played. It checks most if not all of the boxes I look for in a game. Rather, it sets the STANDARD. There is so much to explore/discover/create/complete/collect, the soundtracks are fantastic (I cherish them to this day and will continue to do so for years to come), plenty of humor and fun references are sprinkled throughout, it exudes creativity (the brain child of multiple beautiful minds) to name a few things all packed nicely into 455 mb. I have many more hours logged having played before it was available to me on steam - I started playing nearly a decade ago. I also happened to be going through a very tumultuous and troubling time in my life - this game made it bearable. You've probably already guessed I'm a huge wuss by now but tbh I shed a few tears (as I am now writing this review) when I heard the final update was coming out so you can imagine how thrilled I was to hear about labor of love. I haven't tried it just yet but if you ask me, I would describe the entirety of the game as a labor of love. The only thing I don't like about it is how high it set the bar for other games - now I have a hard time finding new games to play. The majority of the time I end up feeling one or more voids remain where Terraria would have left none. If it were possible I would go into my memory banks and remove all prior knowledge of the game so that I could experience the wonder and awe I felt the first time I played. I know all good things must come to an end and I'm so thankful for the creators brightening my life with this absolute masterpiece that they have lovingly tended to for so long. I hope the devs get to see this review at some point to know how much I appreciate their work and have their lives brightened in return by the 810K+ additional positive steam reviews showcasing their appreciation as well.
