Amazing. 9,5/10.

Never played a roguelike before, so I was looking for one. Almost got Hades because of how much love it's still getting, but decided for Tainted Grail because of the artstyle.

It gets right to the point. You're there, get introduced to the world by a goat, and start doing runs. You get some advice, and learn using your deck effectively. It's addictive to just get better at the game.
The presentation is spot on. The cards look beautiful, the world is dark and grim, and you meet interesting NPC's. After each victory or death, you unlock a tiny bit of story.

Cannot put the game down. After 20 hours on the summoner I finally unlocked the necromancer, and rarely had so much fun manipulating minions. Also, lich form! I'm in love.

One problem: The game isn't pretty enough to warrant my PC roaring loudly, even on lowest settings. But they've mentioned they wanna work on performance, so that may be a non-issue soon!

Intending to play this locally, with my kid.

Can already see the controls need some work. When grabbing, your arms constantly get stuck behind your back and you have to let go and grab again.

I know it's kind of the fun for most people, but for me personally, the packages drop off the vehicles a bit TOO easily. No fun in getting off the car after 2 meters to grab the package that's fallen off.

If they fix the over-the-top "wonkiness" it's definitely a fun title.

My favourite ARPG, with a great setting, music that doesn't get boring, no-meta build variety and best class system, which lets you choose two masteries to combine into your favourite killing machine.

And YES, GET the base game for 7 bucks. Don't let the "Definitive Edition" fool you into thinking you have to choose. It is a bundle, so you can still get the DLC without losing money AFTER you've purchased the base game.

Stay away from the dev team and their mods on the forums. Ask on the subreddit if you really need help. Play your way, not a guide's way. Learn from your mistakes rather than from other people's advice. Nothing will kill the game faster than letting a page of instructions dictate how you shape your character.

Credit where it is due though, the devs continue to update the game with balancing patches and even new content, like areas to explore, and while I do not like the staff's attitude, it is clear that they love their game and are proud to have worked on it, and to continue working on it.
