Early Access Review
If I could leave a neutral review I would.
I at this point can't say if I like it or if I hate it.

FMF 1 was amazingly well made game with a unique quirkiness spin to it,
and the absolute best Cuthulu game I have played so far.

But this - it feels like they have taken every review from the first game
(I read and watched a lot of them) and cooked them into this game.

Changes from the first game
Most of these changes I read during reading up on peoples reviews and
feedback. And it saddens me to see a game take there feedback and twist everything around
in their followup game in the series to the point that the only thing that you can see
is left is the artwork and the story - because Cuthulu.

Music
Bad, most of the time the game is filled with an eerie tone of sound.
I understand the concept but the first games music in combat really punched
you right in the face and you knew ♥♥♥♥ was going down.
These type of soundtracks still exists in FMF 2 but in such few areas it is a severe
lackluster.
The music in the first game just pumped up the game play to a much higher level
and it increased a lot of the intensity to the game.

Voice over
Completely removed.

Story
Changed on how it worked, instead we now get a long letter story at the start of every chapter.
Story doesn't need a big chunk of text to be understood.
It is a Cuthulu game, everyone who know what that means understand the concept of the game.
The first game didn't have a lot but you could easily piece it together in your mind what it was about.
Like reading a book it made you picture it yourself in your head.
This is not a bad change but it is a coin flip, both sides of creating a story works.

Upgrades
Absolutely the most terrible kind of change from the first game.
The first game had a smooth way of doing this, mid fight - whenever you wanted
- the possibility to do upgrades to your items/play style.

This is now completely removed - because for some reason people dislike to
be able to change this whenever you want that is also connected to a level system.
Oh how horrible it is to gain levels to then change a thing or two.

Now we have "collect these materials to then go to asylum to be able to use it".
But it doesn't stop there, oh no - if you want to upgrade mid map you can travel
to the hub to upgrade - yes - but with the materials you had from before the level was started.
And to make the matter even worse, if you want to get back to where you left off
you have to restart the entire level - AGAIN!

This is one of the things that massively grind my gears.
Why change a flawless system to something this horrible?
If you're not the greatest at finding these materials - because that require you to explore a lot.
Then your left with less options to upgrade your items.
It makes absolutely no sense what so ever.

Madness and skills
Utterly messy system compared to the first game.
Nowhere in the game or the menu does it says if (I had to google this information)
the pages are "passive" and/or combined or if you had to change which one to use,

The first game was a lot better, you had your 4 skills and you could use them whenever you wanted. Granted this new system creates an option to mix it however you want but it's still a hot mess.
As well as the time to then use the ability felt relatively short compared to the first game.
I'm not sure if the time needs to increase but it's just weird.

Secrets
Hey let's change this flawless system to instead of having a text on the screen
notifying you if you find one to be changed with getting the lowest kind of sound notification there is.
I had to often tab to see if there was a secret that I had found at first because it was just
really confusing.

Flashlight
The previous and the current have both good and bad sides.
It is handy to have a light and be able to fight while doing so.
But it took away the creepy feeling in the darker areas from the first game
because you had to choose. Either I use the flashlight or I use my weapon.

This now completely removes that, granted you have to keep it winded up.
But since you now can defend yourself a lot easier you don't have to be ready to see if there
is an attack coming up or not - you can just keep on swinging.

Jumping movement
The only thing that this game has changed to the better is the jumping part.
The first game felt like the jumps where constrained while now it actually feels like you can jump with your character - which opens up a lot more fun ways of exploring for secrets.

All in all
Is it a good game?
- No but it's ok.
Does it live up to the first game?
- No, I'm sorry but it does not.

I was very disappointed playing this game, it's not bad but its not "first game in the series good". It just feels bleak in comparison to the first game.
And it saddens me with a heavy heart to now have this.. As the next game in the series.
I truly loved the first game, it was my first Cuthulu game I actually loved to play. It felt fresh, unique and special. But this - this just made me sad and disappointed.

Until, this games major bugs has been worked on I'm not touching this game ever again which is sad since it's actually a very interesting game.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Bugs:
Example: Traps gets removed when reloading a save that was made after the traps where put down + they are also counted as used as in you wont get them back they are just gone.
Example: Met a pack of wolfs and managed to kill them after a few tries, after they where dead a new pack spawned on top of where they used to be. Had run out of traps on first pack so i tried to manage them anyway.
Died. When I saved my load file that was done after I killed the first pack the both pack was there instead of the second pack. Whenever I died the entire two pack was still respawned. Together with this the traps and ammo was counted as used even though the packs kept respawning double.

A game this bad is NOT worth the time nor money.
Fix your game!

The worst 40+ bucks i have ever spent on a game. The start was great but sadly the longer you play the game the more it snowballs into a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. A game more looking like a walking simulator with small parts of "hide from everything and don't get detected". I def don't recommend anyone to buy this game. At max it is worth maybe 20 bucks. But 40+? Definitely not!
