A wonderfully immersive game, where the adventure story stands on its own rather than being an add-on to the farm sim engine.
I bought it on discount, but it is worth paying the full price for its extensive content, length and fun story.

An old-style adventure game featuring some very fun writing and intelligent puzzles (with 1-2 exceptions, such as use of the dyes that made no sense at all or the use of the toilet brush head in Act 3 - inconsistent with Act 2). The difference between a hard puzzle and a tedious one can be summed up like this: when you finally give up and read the walkthrough in the first case you have an "a-ha" moment and in the second, it is a WTF moment.
But there were many enjoyable, original puzzles that made perfect sense within the story and for that, I recommend the game.
The only thing that was missing to make it a great adventure game is the length and a more developed story line with multidimensional characters. Maybe next time....

Such a fun little game. I especially enjoyed the clever, very funny writing and the characters. The first two chapters were the best, but for the last two I felt they were in a rush to finish. The puzzles are less enjoyable, including the annoying mechanic of something working only when you try it a second time, with no clear information why you should do that. The last chapter is the shortest and feels rushed. I think so much more could have been done with the brilliant premise and the character interactions, but I am a writer and I have high expectations. Looking forward to a sequel. :)
The gameplay is short (about 10h) for the 20$ price, so I would get it at a discount.

While more of an interactive story than a adventure game, I really enjoyed A Story Beside. It is the story about the hero behind the hero, because sometimes even the one who saves the world needs saving himself. Wonderful characters, dialogue and general atmosphere. Emotional and meaningful. Very recommended.

The only thing I didn't like were the inventory puzzles, hunting for that minuscule element, screen after screen to no really satisfying end. I would have loved puzzles that tied better into the story. But they are just a few, so in the end, it doesn't matter too much.

I started playing this game with big expectations after reading some reviews, but in the end it didn't quite match them. The cultural setting, story and details are easily the best things about this game, but they are also a missed opportunity, because the game doesn't really get you to interact with the world as much is it could, so they stay mostly in the background. The puzzles are 90% minigames, some quite annoying for adventure gamers who don't care about being fast with their mouse, but they do make sense in the story. They best puzzles are the Rewinder ones, where you can alter past events, but they are too few. The game is quite short at around 5h, which are mostly used on mini games, so you don't get to spend sufficient time interacting with the characters, contributing to their story, which is the mark of the best adventure games, like the Blackwell series, which has a similar tone and theme (help ghosts find the light) but a much more interactive story. These are the reasons why I would get this game on discount and hope for a better sequel.
PS. It's really worth gathering all the flowers for the final scene, but I would have liked to have more information about the mythology and ecology of flowers, and their role in the story which seems to not amount to more that just another puzzle.

1,041.4 h on record. Including the times I forgot the laptop on at night, but still. One of the funnest, most addictive farm/life sim /RPG blended games out there.

So I bought this game hoping it would be another Bleeding Moons or Space Pilgrim, which are some of my favorites, but it turned out to be a disappointment. If I didn't buy it at 80% discount, I would probably asking for a refund. It looked really interesting from the description and the story has a lot of potential, I was actually exited to see it unfold when the gameplay ruined everything. The main problem of the game is that the world is mostly not interactive, you walk around a lot with little purpose and the NPC are also mostly decorative. The puzzles are simple and they don't make up in charm, like in Space Pilgrim for example. I reached a point where I just got too bored walking around to continue playing, so this is a partial review. I'll update if I ever finish the game.

I can't help but wonder why the developer didn't build on the HKIII, arguably the best game in the series, to bring something new and fresh to the series. The ratio of fun/price is still a good, better than most of the games out there, but I was hoping to see more resource management or other story rich development. I'v seen comments saying the game is short and while it is shorter than other instalments, I found the lenght decent, around 6h

A fun detective game, well worth the price, if you don't mind the pixel graphics. The only downside is that I felt it was too focused on the shock value and being "adult" rather than enriching the story and building the relationships between the characters. Towards the end also it was too much run and search for ingredients, instead of talking with characters and discovering clues, seeing this is an adventure game.

A strictly puzzle-focused game. To be fair, I was put off by the dialogues between the characters, they are so basic, there is no story, character development, just a series of mind puzzles, which have average to high difficulty. So, if you want a brain teaser, this game might hit the spot. Not for adventure gamers who also care about the story.
