The story is okay, but the gameplay is obnoxious. It's a glorified walking simulator. There are a few horror moments where you have to progress through an area without being caught by a monster, but those parts are a detriment to the rest of the gameplay because the monsters are not difficult to evade and it feels like it elongates the game for no reason. Like it tried to be both a walking simulator and a horror game, but succeeded at neither. I think it would've been a better game if they focused their energy on picking one and extrapolating on it.

For the first like 7-8 hours I was like okay, this game has like no story to stand on, but the gameplay is fine. The last like 2 hours killed it for me though. The story of this game is just...I don't want to say non-existent, but so not even worth being called a real story. I felt so detached playing this game, it's 95% listening to audio messages to gain any kind of perspective on why you even exist. A bunch of stuff starts happening towards the end that I just felt like...why.

Also I heard this game is pretty glitchy, and I will say about 4 hours in I experienced one glitch only but it pissed me off to no end. I got trapped in a room because the door decided to just not open even though it should've been a door that could open. I spent like 45 minutes trying to figure out how to open the console so I could enter a cheat code to float through the wall just so I could get past that part. Overall the game could've been just okay, but now that it's over I hate it. Thanks.

Early Access Review
It has its pitfalls, but overall a really fun game to play with friends.

Amazing story. Still worth playing the original 2009 version because it feels so different, but both maintain the same horrifying essence.

I hate to give this a thumbs down, because the aesthetic and feel of the game are cool. Very 90s if you liked that era of gaming. However, the gameplay itself is tedious. The puzzles presented aren't even really difficult, but they might feel difficult or take up a lot of time because they're all dependent on knowing when and where to pick up objects found around the game. I used a walkthrough for several portions because it wasn't even like I couldn't "figure it out," it was just too annoying keeping track of a bunch of items I had seen several times but wasn't able to pick up until that one specific moment. It only made me more scatterbrained and confused when I was confronted with new information. I could see this being cool to watch someone else play, but playing it myself ended up being a little grating.

Really enjoyed this one. It's a step up from the previous two games, and the replayability is high, like the first two playthroughs if you make drastically different enough decisions each time you get like two completely different plotlines. Clever writing that keeps you on your toes.
