I don't like metroidvania games or really try to go for collectathon aspects of games, but animal well is different. Saw a friend playing it and I knew I had to play with how you solve puzzles with toys. It feels good to solve puzzles and explore the well, the graphics are also really cute.

ive 100% this game before on a friends console i just wanted to own this on steam so i could share it with friends i want to get to play. this game is hands down one of the best puzzle games of all time. its genius in the way it teaches you how to learn and how to play. its been years since ive played it so coming back to it without remembering the solutions from years back makes it just as fun. its a hard game, it makes for a great morning routine.

giving my genuine opinion and will warn when i delve into light spoilers below:

i seldom play jrpgs anymore but this one really really hooked me. it wasnt the story that really compelled me, a lotttt of them were really lackluster and trope-y. which is fine, some of the stories were really well written though. I thoroughly enjoyed Primrose and Olberic's stories and the writing in them, but the other's felt like the same stories you've always heard before, for better or worse.

What really got me to hyperfixatingly spend 100+ hours in ONE WEEK into this game was the combat, the breaking system is so satisfying, definitely got me back into a turn based strategy system where you balance breaking an enemies defense to capitalize on more turns, all the while building up BP at the right time to dish out major damage.

The sprite work is really captivating, along with the stellar OST. The boss music has an amazing build up and release into the fight and the tracks reflecting what each character is striving for is just such a nice flair. There was definitely a lot of passion poured into this game, but I wish that passion poured into the final bits in the end, where I'll continue to explain before a little spoil warning.

After finishing each characters' paths, I was expecting a new line of stories featuring all of eight of them to converge on one final enemy that each chapter's lines had a loose connection/hint towards something bigger. It felt really dissatisfying to see all that build up just lose all momentum like that. Honestly I felt the ball was absolutely dropped on building up an arc for all eight characters to fight the true final boss which is hidden behind a really obscure side questline and then you just suddenly have access to this boss? It was sloppy. Good boss fight though, great OST again there too, but the massive text walls just dropped on you during this part of the game felt like an RPGmaker game w/ no assets nor strong narrative direction which really left a sour taste.

All in all good game tho. If you don't really like turn based jrpgs this may not be for you, but if you've not played the genre in a whileeee (like 10 years easily, like I have) you'll find that the battle system is fun and engaging. Building up team compositions was a real joy because there is so many different options and builds you can have fun with. No not just Runelord Tressa.

i had this game for like a year and really struggled with it but then got back into it just the weekend i wrote this review and i am entirely obsessed with it. i understand now. this game has so much granularity in a way that makes the game very immersive once you get into it. im excited to see where the game goes because theres already so much depth and so many things to do and set goals with in an early access game.

I absolutely love this game, the cellular automata esque effects with each pixel interacting with each other, the "Deck building" like aspect of editing wands you come across, and the amount of content and game time i've gotten from this game so far? I think this game is worth your time.

I more than love this game as a game though. There have been fantastic secrets hidden by the developers for the community to find, and I'm contributing to solving the mystery of the eye glyphs.
