I had an absolute blast with this game! I think this might be the best execution of melee in first person I've ever played and it remains very satisfying throughout. Player mobility feels good and it's fun to clamber over the levels but the character feels a bit slow in large open areas. I set off stickykeys by spamming dash more than once.

My only major complaint is that the final stretch of the campaign feels pretty rushed. The third chapter does have some fun arena battles but it has no unique enemies, is much shorter than the others and ends abruptly with no boss fight. I wouldn't say it detracted too much from the overall experience but I was disappointed.

I really hope there's a sequel!

I love this game. I can't get my thoughts straight enough to list everything I like about it so just look at my time played. This game has absolutely consumed my gaming hours.

Fortuna Update: I still love this game, even after all this time. Fortuna is easily the most ambitious thing DE has done yet and they absolutely knocked it out of the park.

Cards on the table, I helped Kickstart this game and I am very pleased with how it came out! This is a very solid fusion of old school shooter and roguelite mechanics.

Gunplay is frantic, with a need to priorize targets and plan around acid blooded enemies. It feels a little on the light side of things thanks to the way your guns wave across the screen with your momentum and the slightly weak sounds but the effect on the enemies help make up for it. They flinch, loose limbs and blow apart satisfyingly. So far the best weapons I've found are an explosive disk upgrade for the starting railgun and a homing nail shotgun.

Enemies are a very eclectic bunch, ranging from goblins to mechanical spiders and things that look like someone crossbred a zerg and a wolf and then skinned it. The rock monsters from the second area seem a little over powered but otherwise they provide a fairly regular escalation of difficulty.

Levels are more or less what I expect from procedural tile based games. They seem like they have a decent variety, I've gotten to the last area twice so far and only repeated a room once or twice. I like how some rooms have changed while I was in them, for example I walked into a burning arborium only for the sprinklers to turn on after a minute and put out the blaze as I fought through it. There are secrets as well but they appear to be very well hidden as I haven't found any.

One thing I really don't like is the laser gates in the last area that block progress until all enemies in the area are killed. At one point I looked for over a half hour for the last enemy and finally had to give up and test the gates, which did an unreasonable amount of damage as I walked through. I'm almost positive it spawned in a wall or something because I went everywhere.

To close I want to reiterate it is a roguelite, so be prepared to have a run ruined by bad luck and to have no idea what you're buying from the item shop or what your weapons do until you fire them.
