Pluses:
- ZOMG!!! It's Doom 64 with dual-analog, key+mouse, a sensible brightness level and a save system!!!! I've been waiting for this for almost 20 years!
- Doom 64 has always been far more of a Doom 3 than Doom 3 was.
- It’s only $5?!?

Minus:
- Doesn't appear to auto-save.

WTF?!?:
- Unskippable, mandatory 40 sec of company logo animations and legalize upon EVERY startup?!?!?!? Who in hell decided that was acceptable???

Just like many other racing sims, Assetto Corsa has a good physics model providing a realistic "feel" for the cars, and many finely-detailed settings to fiddle with.

However, literally everything else about this title absolutely SCREAMS “half-assed unprofessionalism”. The whole thing gives off the impression somebody took one of the more mediocre, forgettable games from the DOS-era and hastily hacked it it up to technically work with all the modern hardware and peripherals (well, unless you want to be able to pause the game while using a standard game controller). The bare-bones “deal-with-it yourself” approach kills the entire experience and makes every facet of this title far more “chore” than anything remotely resembling “enjoyable”.

Evan all of this could have been tolerable, perhaps even forgivable, if this were the only racing sim on the market. But, unfortunately for Assetto Corsa...it isn’t.

If you’re considering buying this, do yourself a favor and don’t. Instead, pick up an entry from ANY of the competing series. Project Cars. Dirt. Gran Turismo. Etc. They all provide good simulation-grade physics and details, too...but all of them also provide a VASTLY better, less tedious, more professional, experience. And, graphically, they just plain LOOK worlds better, to boot!

Luckily for me, I only got this as part of a Humble Bundle with other better games. If I had paid full price, or even a sale price, just for this (and had somehow missed the refund window)… Well, then no amount of “you can get a shopping cart mod!” or “laser-perfect tracks!” would have stopped me from being absolutely furious. Even as a freebie, it’s just not even worth spending the time suffering through.

An authentic retro-style side-scroller that DOESN'T support DPad and REQUIRES using analog stick instead?!?!?

WHY WOULD ANYONE DO THAT?!?!? Does the dev hate us and wish us endless pain and suffering???

Completely unplayable unless you manually go through Steam's controller settings and adjust the mapping to trick this game into accepting DPad input.

Super-Transaction Chump Fighter 5!

Just grab an old copy of SF Alpha 3. All the characters (from the start), none of the monetization bull. (and it's better-looking than this one, too.)

Not clear enough? Ok, I'll put it this this way:

What Is Street Fighter 5? Start with Street Fighter 4 (ie, just like every other Street Fighter, except this time all the characters are hideously deformed with freakishly gigantic legs and feet). Then lock nearly all the characters and stages behind an in-game currency that 's so insanely expensive, you'll master and get tired of all fighting games long before you ever manage to unlock even a quarter of the content. Then, you get harassed into rewarding Capcom with ANOTHER $25 after you've already bought the game in the first place, to upgrade to the "Championship Edition" (after you already upgraded to "Arcade Edition"), just to you can turn your copy of Chump Fighter 5 into what's basically just a re-release of Chump Fighter 4 all over again....That is...until the NEXT time they want everyone who already bought this game and all its upgrades to give them even MORE money for ANOTHER new "upgrade" that, at best, only makes it *slightly* closer to being a high-def port of SF Alpha 3.

Developers need to quit pretending PC gamers don't have real controllers and want to play everything with keyboard+mouse.

If you want to play this with a controller, get the PS4 or XBone version, not the Steam version. The console versions have very good controller support right out-of-the-box. The Steam version completely REMOVES that built-in controller support...and good luck trying to win the 20+ hour "manually configure the controller to work well" minigame.

I like this game (I played it on several consoles), but this Steam/PC version just doesn't run, period. Steam thinks its running, but there's no game, nothing, ever, will not start. Steam just sits there, thinking the game is running, but...no game, nothing.

UPDATE: Ok, NOW it *technically* runs for me, I can get to the main menu and such. But actual gamepads do NOT work, PERIOD. I've tried DualShock 4, XBone, I've tried both with and without Steam Input, I've tried with and without DS4Windows, I've tried every combination of all of that that while also selecting "Gamepad" input in the game's config tool (why in hell would anything from even remotely modern-ish times be unable to handle BOTH keyboard and controller input simultaneously by default??? Take it from a lifelong programmer: That. ♥♥♥♥. Is. INSANE!) I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO WRITE CODE THAT'S THAT BROKEN!!!!

I EVEN USED STEAM INPUT TO CONFIGURE MY CONTROLLER TO OUTPUT THE DEFAULT KEYBOARD CONTROLS AND SELECTED KEYBOARD INPUT FROM THE GAME'S CONFIG TOOL! And it *STILL* DIDN'T WORK!!! **HOW DO YOU DO THAT!?!?!* *HOW DO YOU WRITE SOFTWARE SO INCOMPREHENSIVELY BROKEN THAT IT **ACTIVELY RESISTS** BASIC COMMONSENSE WORKAROUNDS????

FWIW, Episode 2 does work for me. But this one....This takes the idea of "broken software" and elevates it to levels of outright brokenness that NOBODY could EVER even believe possible.

If you want to play this game, just buy a console version. DO NOT BOTHER with the BROKEN, garbage-workmanship that was vomited into this genuinely unplayable PC version.

Remember during first season of Family Guy when Chris goes to an arcade and is thrilled to find a “game” he can play for a dollar and “wins” four quarters every time?

That’s what Crush Crush is, except without the practical benefit of making change in case you need to buy a real life gumball from a machine.

Instead of playing this game by inserting a dollar, you “play” by clicking. Yes. Just...clicking. Click your mouse, win a point. Click, click, click. Yay! I keep winning points!

Even better, there’s another button you can click every few seconds to win about 20, maybe 30 or so points (This button is labeled either “Sorry” or “Talk”, and there doesn’t appear to be any downside to using it as many times as you want. Um...yay?)

Mere “points” not enough of a reward? Don’t worry! If you racked up several thousands of points (literally, several thousand at least), you can view additional (presumably more provocative, although I haven’t been able to stomach enough of this to get that far) images of a badly-drawn psuedo-anime girl who has what is quite possibly the most unlikable, b**chy personality in the world.

Getting tired of having to click to win? You’re covered, dude! There’s YET ANOTHER button to click which will make the game automatically just GIVE you in-game currently while you go back to clicking (or even while you walk away to make a real-life sandwich! Yum!). Come back to the game (because, gee, with this much clickerific fun to be had, who wouldn’t want to?) and exchange the money for “gifts”, such as a $960 rose or $5,880 donut (I’m not kidding). Doing that wins you EVEN MORE points!

There’s a few other minor “kinda pretending to be gameplay, but not really” trappings, like “hobbies”, additional characters, disabling the regular clicking in favor of the “gimme more points” buttons, but ultimately, everything still just boils down to:

- Click-to-win
- Waiting. Literally waiting. Not loading, just waiting.
- Unlocking *cough* “artwork”
- Doing exactly what the game says you need to do (whee! Simon says!)
- Once again trying to make sense of a free-to-play title’s multiple in-game currencies.

Basically, it’s a clicking-simulator that pretty much plays itself.

But hey! Best of all, for the few occasional weirdos out there with enough of their wires crossed to somehow think this all sounds terribly tedious instead of fun and exciting (as if!!!), this game gives you the option of paying real world money to relieve some of the (yea right!) “pointlessness” of playing this game. I call this option “Buy a different game and play it instead, then later hop on the internet and look at whatever alluring illustrations you want.”

And before you go thinking, “well, he just doesn’t like dating sims”, well, no, that’s not the case. Yes, I’ve played and genuinely enjoyed other dating sims before: Both visual-novel style and also ones that were set up similarly to this, but with actual gameplay and thought involved.

If you want a game with a set up similar to this, but *isn’t* complete garbage, get HuniePop instead. The dating sim aspect of that game involves actual choices with actual relevance. Plus it even has a minigame tied in, and is all-around better in every way.

Crush Crush, on the other hand, is complete and utter worthlessness. Seriously, even the average “free-to-play-but-who-would-ever-want-to” trashheap still has at least some semblance of actual gameplay hidden underneath the trappings. This one simply has nothing. It’s a clicking simulator. It’s Chris Griffin’s change-making arcade “game”, but without the usefulness.

Very nice little retro space sh'mup, and (mostly) works with controller. Levels/gameplay are simple yet well-crafted. Game is challenging without feeling frustrating or impossible,

(Minor) Cons:

- Can't exit the game using controller, AFAICT. (Hit Alt-F4 or click the window's close button).

- Fullscreen mode is hard to discover: The standard Alt-Enter combo doesn't work, and there's no fullscreen option in the settings. Instead, you have to "just know" that double-clicking the window enters/exits fullscreen (but now you know!)

- After level 1, the game does a poor job (ie, not at all, whatsoever, not even in the slightest) of communicating the very important fact that you can change characters (ie guns). Just hit LB/RB (aka L1/R1). (but now you know!)

The cons are minor, once you know them. And it's not a big game, but it's priced appropriately. Bottom line, if you like retro-style space shmups, even if you're not into the Neptunia series, then this is worth picking up.

Brilliantly cheesy and self-referential. And the Juggalo fight was especially well-designed gameplay, would LOVE to see more of that in a sequel. It's like taking one of the games the SegaCD/MegaCD put too much marketing behind, and doing it RIGHT.

Plus, it ran flawlessly straight out-of-the box for me. That's a really big deal on PC. Even moreso because I'm on Linux. And even more...than..."moreso"...because even many *native* linux games DON'T run out-of-the-box on linux. So that's a REALLY big plus. And I'm on a laptop. A 2014 budget model, roughly on par with PS3. With Intel graphics and nothing else. So...yea. Major kudos just for actually running and not crapping out just because it isn't a $$$ supercomputer.

I do have a few nitpicks:

- I'm REALLY tired of PC games assuming that ALL PC gamepads are XBox controllers. (Valve even put out a report about this recently, demonstrating conclusively that XBox, DualShock and Steam, are ALL critically important controllers to Steam gamers). Like MANY of us on Steam, I use a DualShock 4 on the PC (aside from the handful of games I use a Steam controller). And I'm more comfortable and familiar with DualShock buttons. So that makes the XBox-oriented button prompts REALLY confusing...ESPECIALLY when I "press X to not die" and the stupid game thinks I pressed "A"...which my controller obviously doesn't even have. I mean, WTF?

- The menus frequently think I pressed up/down twice when I really only pressed it once.

- It's too freaking short! Fantastic games always make you want more. I want more! One play-through was only about a half-hour and felt even shorter. Fortunately though, this has decent replayability and a low price to match the short length.

- I got this on sale but, after playing it, I would be glad to have paid more than full price. (How often does THAT happen???)

This was always one of my favorite VGA DOS games, and it still holds up very well against modern indie games even today. Think of it as something in-between the original NES Zelda and the SNES "Zelda: A Link To The Past", but with more emphasis on puzzles rather than open-world exploration and dungeons.

My only issue is that I really wish they would've updated this to be *fully* gamepad-compatible: Ie, it can't be played wih the D-Pad (boo!!!), and most of the menus can only be controlled via keyboard.
