Absolutely loved this game! It feels very immersive with the way you interact with objects with the mouse cursor, and even though I don't usually get spooked by this kind of game there were still parts that gave me shivers or made me jump. The puzzles are fairly simple, but not so simple that they are mind numbing, and they don't operate on moon logic. It's a lot of fun to go through the abandoned school and solve thematic puzzles as you uncover the story bit by bit and put everything together yourself. The second chapter is definitely my favorite with its old school Resident Evil vibes, and the creature there actually made me jump several times. It may be short, but it's a very enjoyable experience.

Easily one of the best games I've played in a long time. It is fun, accessible, and overall a joy to explore. Every new item and event feels like a real discovery. The best part is that everything is balanced, very weapon and item is viable.

The worlds and bosses you face are randomized, so the balance and challenge of the game doesn't come from their numbers being higher than yours. It all comes down to your playstyle and build. And there are a lot of builds you can make, in the end it comes down to preference. You can easily play through the entire game with just the starting weapons and still face a fair challenge.

Early Access Review
Be warned that the game is still in a rough state and is pretty basic for now. But what is here is really good.

It takes inspiration from many sources of the Starship Troopers universe. The tiger bugs from the original fps game. The Morita mk3 Saw, the jump pack, and the grenadier bug from the CGI movies, and a pretty much everything else from the original movie. I expect to see more bug variants and other guns from those sources. Maybe even some guns and bugs from the CGI series, Roughnecks. Who knows, maybe we'll even get the Marauder mechs eventually.

The gameplay is pretty simple. Gather resources, build a base, defend the base for a while, then extract to a dropship. Fighting the swarm is awesome, the best parts being when you have a nice line of troopers and you're all just gunning down bugs as more and more pop up.

Performance wise, at least for my PC, it's a bit of a slug. Especially when there are a lot of bugs and explosives, as all the effects really put a drain on my FPS. Other than that I haven't run into many issues.

There's only one map right now, but it is huge. Missions have you start at different areas, so each game can feel different. There's only one area to build on, being the center of the ruined base you're defending, but it's a fairly large area that allows for all kinds of setups to be built.

Overall it's a good concept and I can see it going far in the future as more guns, missions, and bugs get added.

At first I liked this game. The atmosphere is excellent, the graphics are gorgeous, and the overall design is a mix of modern sci fi with touches of old cassete futurism. But it was in one of the first levels where my excitement for this game plummeted. At one point you get a key, that unlocks a box with a key, that unlocks a place with a key, that gives you an key to get another key. And the rest of the game isn't much different. Roaming the level to find keys to find keys to find keys. The final door I believe requires 6 keys, which is your inventory limit. So you either backtrack several times, or you traverse the entire level with no weapons or items.

People like to say old school survival games had limited inventory like this. Well, in RE1 that people love to compare this game to, Chris did have 6 slots, but Jill had 8. The other difference was that Chris was a better marksman and had more health, and they each had access to different guns. In this game you are given so many items. Guns, ammo, multiple healing items, tools, and the ridiculous amount of keys this game has. Even the flashlight takes up a slot. A flashlight, THAT YOU COULD EASILY TAPE TO YOUR GUN/CHEST.

Not only is the inventory system is a joke, so is the combat. There are several types of enemies, but they have no significant differences between them. They have attack animations, but touching them also deals damage for some reason. When you enter a room the controls are locked until you reach a preset point, and if there's an enemy in the way then you take unavoidable damage. And after a couple of hours of playing they became non threats. You can easily kite them, and after a while you realize that killing them is pointless since they can come back. Keyword "can", since it's a random chance. Unlike the mechanic from the original RE where zombies come back after a certain amount of time, in this game it's a percent chance. They might come back the first time you return, or they might not come back at all. In RE at least you could tell the zombies were about to come back because they'd become red zombies, but no such thing happens in this game.

You do get flares to burn the corpses, but they are so rare that there's no point since commonly traversed rooms usually have at least 2 enemies each. So your safehouses might have 6 enemies around, and you only get three flares. You do find a flare gun too, but by the end of the game every room with enemies has at least 3-4.

I'm not even gonna talk about the story since it's not my type at all, but it's obtuse, pretentious, and purposely hides details from you. What's worse is that nothing gets resolved in the end, as every ending has essentially the same outcome. The fake ending is the dumbest thing I've seen too, since if a friend hadn't told me about it I wouldn't have even touched the game ever again.

I have no idea how this game is so popular.

I don't usually play rhythm games, but this one is a lot of fun. The music is awesome and the controls are simple.
