Played up to the 5th pixel remake, 6 has yet to be released, but this is far and away my favorite of the bunch so far. Only one crash that I was never able to replicate (it was super weird and specific so I didn't worry about it), the music is great, the job system is absolutely amazing and gave me incentive to grind so I could smash the final boss with little to no difficulty, even the story is pretty great considering the time period. I still think 4 has the best story thus far, but 5 beats it in every other aspect. If you play any of the remakes I highly recommend this one over all the others (6 could easily be better but have yet to play so idk)

FF1 pixel remake is solid for what it is, but I have no idea why FF2 is so bad. There are so many bugs present that make casual playthrough horrible. A bug that made me seriously hate this game is the fact that pretty much none of the status prev. items (ribbion, protection ring, genji armor, etc.) do not work. This led to a frustrating end dungeon where Coreuls are a common enemy to be found in packs of 4-6 (unless paired with an easily killable Lamia). This is all well and good if their basic attack weren't a 1 shot with no way to prevent it. The only way to avoid a party-wide wipe is to insta kill them (each has 1000 hp, so even dual wielding weapons can be a tall order to kill them all if there is 6; unless you overgrind beyond belief) before they can attack you first as there is no way to prevent them from one shotting you if their attack lands.

Another exceedingly annoying result of this isn't confined to just one enemy, but many. I found that not all prevention items (such as resisting sleep) work, only a handful do. As a result there can be many times when I equip my party with the appropriate equipment to avoid the stun locks that can happen, and yet they still happen; in addition, if you outlevel the content (like I like to do) you can be sitting there for quite a while as you hope that *maybe* you will break free from the endless CC chain just to one shot the super easy to kill enemy(enemies). Those simple bugs made the mid-end game (ESPECIALLY the end dungeon) dreadful to play through. The end dungeon single handily ruined the game for me simply because of how infuriating it is to have to quick save after every encounter because half of the encounters in the end dungeon can end in your defeat simply because of bugs that should have been fixed.

FF1 did not have this issue (or it could also be that since the end game of FF1 didn't have the infuriating mobs that you face in the end game of FF2 making it a nonissue), and while I have yet to play FF3 I have heard it is far and away the best of the 3 remakes so I would assume this pretty obvious bug does not exist.

I have heard of mistranslations existing on this remake, but things like the ribbon is known to prevent things such as sleep. That is the point of the ribbon in FF games- they prevent effects like that, and when it doesn't do that it exceeds a mistranslation and is just a bug.

The weird (arguably bad) level up system, magic system, etc. can be attributed to prodcuts of their time. I am happy they didn't rework these like they did when it came to FF1 remakes on other devices and how they completely reworked the combat because I wanted to experience them as they were no matter how bad they are; however, these bugs that make the end game one of the worst gaming experiences I have ever had, to the point that it pissed me off enough to write this novel about how bad they are, makes me not recommend this game. Once the bugs are fixed then sure, it isn't a bad game if you can get past the products of their time game mechanics. But until the bugs are fixed, avoid this game.
