Simple, does what's needed and cheap! Would be good if you could add your own crosshair instead of choosing from a predetermined set of shapes etc. but can't complain! The overlay thing is great too.

This is my first experience with this type of game and although I found dying over and over frustrating at first, the game grew on me as I got better and I'm now addicted. It has its flaws but what game doesn't? Recently I've been spending money on games that I quickly regret but this time I think I made a good choice and it's worth the money.

Loved the mod. Standalone, not so much. I want to love it but it's just too buggy, sluggish and has a lot wrong with it. Enjoyable but equally frustrating.

Edit: The game has come a very long way since I posted my initial review! There are a lot less bugs, game-play feels a lot smoother and there has been loads implemented, such as: Base building, vehicles, more crafting options, vaulting, mods and much more! I never thought the day would come when I can finally say I enjoy playing DayZ Standalone! One might say I'm almost as addicted as I was when playing the mod haha! I would still recommend waiting for a discount though as the game isn't finished and still has flaws. As of the time writing this, it costs £30 to purchase the game, keeping in mind it came out in 2013 (8 years ago) and still has a lot of its promised features and content missing.

That being said, If you love the idea of getting lost in a dark, gritty and unforgiving post-apocalyptic zombie survival game - this one will have you feeling all the emotions from fear, panic and anger to relief, happiness and content. There's no story apart from the one you make yourself after "waking up" in the middle of nowhere without adequate clothing to shield you from the harsh weather, and without food or water to quench your hunger and thirst. You'll have to quickly adapt to your environment if you don't want to die. It's easy to get lost in the many small to large towns whilst looting for food and water, or in the forests when hunting animals for food. If the zombies and wildlife haven't killed you yet and you think you're getting on your feet, you could run into a group of bandits hell-bent on taking everything you've invested a substantial amount of time looting - after they have killed, cooked and eaten you. Will you run, hide and pray they don't see you? Or will you stand and fight with your badly damaged pistol and dwindling ammo?
