I'm conflicted on this one. The visual and production design on this is fantastic. The way this world was built, the layers, the textures, etc. Visually, this has a lot going for it, especially as a Cyberpunk game. Yet I guess when I read what this game was, I expected more of the investigation part, but quickly, this game doesn't make me feel like I'm investigating at all (at first it seems to, but then quickly that idea fades), so much as just following a very linear story with no real meaningful choices.

The games that made me feel like I was investigating a scene: Arkham Knight, The Sinking City, and to a lesser degree, the braindance sequences of Cyberpunk 2077. In these games, the investigative parts felt meaningful, like you were uncovering a deeper mystery that would lead you somewhere. I would have liked if with Observer, we started off at the hotel, gathering some clues, maybe look up a few connections on our pda or vid thingy in our car, and let that guide us to other locations.

With that aside, Observer feels like an updated adventure game with minimal puzzles along the lines of the Telltale Games with more atmosphere and horror, and it has some big story strokes that are cool. The lack of any real investigation and very constricted to this one very limited location really hamper this (this hotel), albeit with more parts of the hotel opening up as you go and do things, many of these areas still have a sameness to them. Also, the mechanism for interacting with objects, where you have to hold the mouse to say open a door, that's cumbersome. Accessing your little PDA or whatever you call it, was also a bit cumbersome.

The time commitment is low, though, so it isn't like I'm wasting so much time playing this only to be dissatisfied, but even then, it starts to wear by the end because of too much that feels the same.

I really loved the idea of jacking into people's minds to uncover the story, maybe root around and find clues, but these sequences quickly feel repetitive. You are mostly just going straight or wandering a space that repeats until you go the right way or whatever, and when it does stop you, then you are pixel hunting for the right interactive spot. That is a very old adventure game flaw. That was great about the Deponia games, you could click a key and all interactive spots are highlighted. I shouldn't have to find interactive spots in an adventure game, anymore.

Yet you have Rutger Hauer voicing the main character. The atmosphere and graphics are definitely top notch. It gets very tense in parts. So I guess it is a mild recommendation, if you are enjoying the story and the setting and the horror aspects. I probably won't ever play this again, though.

Very atmospheric, though I'm not sure if there is any real meaningful choices. This feels like a Telltale Game in spirit with some added very minimal adventure game puzzling. Like those games, there is the illusion of choice, as the game notes things that should impact you in the game's future, but how impactful these actually end up being on the game tend to be maybe an added dialogue choice later, but no real substantial alteration.

If you look at a game like Fallout New Vegas, where how you choose to pursue certain quest lines affects how characters react to you, can open up other quest lines or close some down, what is happening here and generally in Telltale Games really feels like a cheat. That would be my main gripe with these types of games, that they don't really own up to just how much these choices affect anything.

My secondary grip is the inability to save when you want. You are pretty much forced to stay the course you are setting, in the dialogue options and whatever else, but mostly the dialogue options... but with choice being more an illusion than a reality, this certainly helps to hide that behind the fact you can't just go back and choose a different option and see what changes without having to start over from scratch.

Some of the sequences designed to be 'scary' are more annoying than anything, but I guess that is all in service is trying to make the atmosphere as tense as possible. The story is decent, the characters overall are fine, and the mechanics of exploring that story more often than not do a good job of it, such as the investigation segments. You have RPG like stats, but it is hard to tell just how meaningful they are most of the time, beyond just blocking occassional dialogue options and preventing or allowing certain short cuts.

If you enjoy Telltale Games and just want a Lovecraftian version, this is probably as close as you will likely get and overall, it was worth one play through. This is not a game I will be coming back to, but I enjoyed enough aspects for this one time.

Overall, it was fun, and it seems to capture a good portion of charm from the original games, but at the same time, it is quite flawed. Some chapters fair better than others, but there is at least a nice variety of places, puzzles, and objectives. I enjoyed the story, though some of the turns feel like they are going in a new direction with one of the characters, only to upturn that all by the end. I guess it is just as well.

Like a lot of classic adventure games, you have to do back tracking and re analyzing scenes again, to see if new things have been added, re talk to people to see if new dialogue options are now there and... some of this pixel hunting gets a bit tiresome these days. I appreciate how the Deponia series handled this, where you can make interactable spots on screen visible.

My major complaint, it does have these repetitive sequences where you are restricted to a few different screens and sometimes you can control moving between these screens in a specific order, sometimes, like in the finale, you can not... and it gets annoying real fast. Some of the 3D nature of the levels and how the camera was positioned, at least in one instance made a path invisible if you don't move the right direction, but this is a minor thing.

In the end, I enjoyed it enough to play all the way through. If you are a fan of previous games, I would say give this one a whirl.

One of the best adventure games in recent memory and perfectly encapsulates the cyberpunk aesthetic. Good characters, voice acting, and narrative flow. The interface works very smoothly.I loved how they presented their version of cyberspace as well! I wish they made more games in this universe!

I'm surprised by all the negative reviews. I guess if you didn't really explore the levels, you could probably finish the game sooner.

But there were so many hidden nooks, lots of things to hack, many opportunities to utilize your augmentations. My playtime of Human Revolutions was around 70 hours. My playtime of Mankind Divided was more like 54-55 (+the Janson story, which took probably another hour to finish). The levels were varied, and full of places to discover.

And the game lacks the flaws of Human Revolutions (which had a terrible opening level and while the final level of Mankind Divided wasn't 'great', it was certainly better than the 'zombie level' of Human Revolutions. And I'm certainly not knocking HR, overall, as the middle is great, especially with the missing link restored to it. But it started off bad and ended bad. Mankind Divided was just fun as a Deus Ex game, and ends abruptly, but at the same time, the main story thread it was telling was completed.

Certainly, some tweaks could help near the end. And I'm not fond of them replacing David Sarif's voice (though it suffices) Overall, I loved it. I rarely buy full priced games, but this year I bought Fallout 4 and Mankind Divided, and will probably buy Dishonored 2, since it is basically Deus Ex set in a steampunk like world. and I absolutely loved the first game (and that was another one that was rather short, but the game and story and all just worked so well, and the levels allowed many opportunities to use your abilities, so I was ok with it).

And being a big Deus Ex fan, I love all the new additions. They refined the Aug system from HR, and the new Augs are fun, especially remote hacking. I liked that I could play the game lethal or nonlethal, and there were lots of ways through levels. The basic gameplay is everything I could want from a Deus Ex game. More so than HR, because MD hits the ground running.

I see complaints about the story... and I don't get it. HR never really went the distance as far as Conspiracy theories go, not like the original Deus Ex. But you see little building blocks here and there, in HR and MD, leading to the foundations of what became Deus Ex. Would I lke more Conspiracy Theories in this mix? More secret societies? And what not? Of course, but neither game really does enough with it. But the story is entertaining enough, certainly as much as HR, though it never builds to a ridiculous anticlimax (just an abrupt climax), and the core gameplay and the levels allowing a player to flex out their aug muscles seems much more solid in MD.

I'm not fond of the microtransactions, they suck. But they aren't in your face about it in this game and they certainly aren't needed. Same with the DLC that came with preordering. I never felt like I was grinding to go up levels. I leveled up, getting praxis kits, at fairly regular intervals. So yeah, the fact that microtransactions are there, baaad. But you can easily ignore them and never think about them while playing the game, so it's not as big a deal as some are making it out to be.

So really, not sure what people were expecting. I will say the DLC offerings for the season pass seem weak as hell and not worth picking up. The Fallout 4 Season Pass was definitely more than worth it, as I will be jumping back into that next now that I have finished MD, and now the nuka cola theme park has been added and I've been hearing great things about it.

Bottom line, love MD and will play it again at some point. And if you are a Deus Ex fan, and like to explore levels (not just stick to main story points), and don't mind a game that is a bit shorter than HR, I recommend it. I enjoyed it overall more than HR.

Too much fun. Lots of laughter. Episode 4, for instance, had me in stitches throughout, especially in one part where I just couldn't stop laughing.

I'd played Walking Dead season 1 and it was fine and all, but I always kind of felt bogged down playing it, not really all that engaged. Good enough to play, but underwhelming at the same time, even with some good character development. I couldn't get into the choices so much, what little there actually were. I really enjoy the 3 FPS Borderlands games and always thought the potential for different kinds of games was very much there. I'm so glad they just went with it, because I absolutely love Tales from the Borderlands. The characters are fun and interesting. The story is engaging. The situations are well thought out and fun. Love this game! I so cannot wait for Episode 5, releasing soon!

One of the best Adventure Games of all time and this Remastered Edition does a worthy job of bringing back a classic. The new mouse control system is a definite bonus. I'm also enjoying the commentary from the makers of the game as I play (and it's not intrusive at all. A small little indicator pops up at the corner of the screen whenever commentary is available, and you click on it if you want to).

Whether you played the game back in the day or are new to adventure games, you'd be hard pressed to find one with as much spirit and originality, with a great cast of characters all wonderfully voice acted and a setting that is marvelously employed. To say it is a great game, is an understatement. It is a timeless classic! One of the must plays!

Pros:
Beautiful graphics/illustrations. It's like FTL, but prettier.
Lots of interesting story elements.

Cons:
The game gets repetitive too quickly. While the story has constanly new and different elements, even that loses its flavor after awhile, because unlike FTL, which had more immediacy to it... there is very little driving force to push you forward. Your focus is to keep your ship going... but you are severely limited in how you can do that,

The new technologies you can discover seem neat at first, until you realize they don't tend to do all that much differently or improve the gameplay all that much. Your ship is extremely limited. You can actually discover new ships, apparently, which does improve things, but there is no garuntee of this and the existing ship has very little space in it. It seems like poor design decisions led to combining your cargo with the slots to install your new tech in. I don't recall you ever being limited in cargo in FTL and that is one of my big gripes here. Plus, in FTL, you could easily expand various capabilities of your ship beyond just new tech you can install. The tech seems more varied in Out There, but also far more limited.

Having to micromanage your cargo space is annoying, because while all the elements you can find have info on them, most of these elements are pretty much useless unless you stumble across the right technology that requires these elements to build.

Also, if you go to a breathable atmosphere planet and immediately fill up your O levels, why can you not also fill up as much inventory of O as possible? I would have to drill for it, and still too often get too little. The balance of elements to drill or probe for seems out of whack. Also, more often than not, it seemed like a waste to drill or probe a second time, as it produced little to nothing in addition. I would think drilling 2-3 times could still yield some good resources, at least more often than not. Otherwise, why is there an option to drill or probe a second time other than to waste your resources? Just make it only doable once and be done with it.

I played through three times, and got better each time, but mainly, I stuck very strictly to doing very specific things, because otherwise, it is way too easy to run out of resources in this game.

FINAL SUM UP:
I think if I didn't have such limited cargo space and the elements were not quite so out of whack when drilling... the game would play better for me. It is in many ways a more laid back kind of game compared to FTL, which has combat and the risk of being attacked if you explore too much... and I want to like this game for the graphics and story, but it seems like there isn't enough of a game to really make it worth more than a few playthroughs. Maybe if there was more story that a player can actively get involved with, but it is all so passive, almost like a visual novel you can die in and have to do a little bit of work in, but mostly, just... yeah.

So I cannot really recommend it... very lightly, very mixed. .

Do NOT buy this game, it is BROKEN.

Loved the first two games, so I was sad to see that this game is broken. A new game is about to be released and this one hasn't been fixed of its game breaking bugs?

The first boss fight happens shortly into the game and it is broken. Killer Croc glitches in and out and eventually the screen goes black and the game freezes. I tried this unfun battle 4-5 times (the last time, I tried disabling something based on feedback online, but even that didn't work). Apparently, this is an all too common occurance. (this is the only game I have ever wanted to get a refund on, and thankfully, a system is in place for that now).

I can deal with bugs here and there, certainly if they are mere annoyances, but this game is flat out broken. Do not buy until they fix this. Wait for the next one, which is once again by the studio who made the first two games, not by the studio that made this trainwreck.

If you ever wanted to know what it was like to be The Flash or a nonflying Superman, this is the game for you. Just the feeling of running across the city, sending cars flinging away as you run into them alone is worth the price of admission.

But that isn't all you get. From the start, this game had my laughing and chuckling throughout. Yes, it is silly, but in such a good way, in such a geeky, wonderful way.

Become the president of the United Stated and kill some aliens in a Matrix like environment, full of geek references.

I loved almost all of the activities you can play across the city. I loved the interactions with my crew members. And even though I'd never played any of the previous games, I still got when the game was referencing previous games.

The whole thing was some of the most fun I've ever had in a game.
