Ever since the release the developers have been faithfully updateing the game with free content. It might not be the best game out there, but its fun to play in bursts and then wait a little while for new features to play again.

Now recommanding, since they added a lot of good stuff. Like vermintide, best played in short bursts or you risk burnout.
For all preacher players: They finally made a good and viable thunder hammer. Nothing beats sending a heretic flying or oneshooting a charging mutant.

Emperor protects.

OLD: Wait about 1,5 years until you buy this. I have faith it will be good eventually but currently it needs a lot of work.

This game is in many aspects a worthy followup on Dark Souls 3. It has huge, gorgeous areas, a wide veriety of weapons and sorceries and being able to give normal weapons different affinities and scaleing through ashes of war, without cost, is just amazing.

So why the thumbs down? Because the game has some serious design flaws:
  • The small dungeons get repetitive really fast. Why do you have a beautiful world to explore when all i can discover is just more of the same?
  • The camera is atrociously bad when using lockon and fighting flying enemies in melee. And there are a lot of them.
  • There are to many dragons and other huge enemies to fight. While they are not difficult to fight, they are just annoying, because you basically only see their feet most of the time and have to guess when to dodge. Also fighting basically the same dragon 8 times just with different names and sometimes a single new ability doesn't spark much joy.
  • There is a crafting system you basically never need. Some materials don't even respawn after resting, so whats the point then in crafting a limited amount of stuff? Also the most important consumable item can not be crafted: the larval tear that is needed to respec. Ashes of war with different affinities and the ability to purchase upgrade materials up to the 2nd last weapon level encourage you to try out different builds and play styles, but you need the right stats to use them effectively. This means you still have to commit to a build but get at least to try out different weapons with it. It's an upgrade to DS3 for sure but a missed opportunity to integrate it into the crafting system.
  • Some Bosses and Trash Mobs stray from the core principle of the souls series: Being hard but fair. Get faced with a great challenge, overcome it and be rewarded with an immeasurable feeling of satisfaction.
And yet, some Mobs will just straight up stunlock you to death and some bosses will just oneshot you with extremely hard to avoid attacks, no matter you hp/damage negation. I believe that Sekiro is the epitome of hard but fair boss fights and it saddens me deeply that they stray from their lessons learnt there and design epic bosses that get ruined by just a single ability of theirs. Beating them doesn't fill you with satisfaction, it leaves you with the knowledge of having completed a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ task. There is no enjoyment, only the feeling of being glad to not have to deal with it again.

All in all I personally can not recommend the game (yet). If you want an entry into the souls series, try dark souls 3 and if you want a slight variation on it and enjoy stylish katana combat, then try out Sekiro. Maybe some future patches or Dlcs will fix some of the pain points, but until then i would only recommend it to die hard dark souls fans

While the game seems to be realy optimized, getting pulled into a menu every 5-10 minutes that says "You discconneted from the server" realy sucks for the campaign. Oh and when you reload from a checkpoint the game tries to conntect to the servers first. I don't know what hamster farm powers these servers, but somebody should check if they are fed correctly and not used for target practice. Having ♥♥♥♥♥♥ servers should never affect the single player component of a game.

Got the dlc in the defintive Edition and gave it a try. The new Light mechanic is fun to use pretty broken vs grunts and useless vs most bosses. The worst thing are the "equipment challanges". Those captains are immune to everything except 1 thing and you have to use it or the become really cheesy. It's just bad lazy desing.

It scratches the xcom itch while simultaneously oozing with WH 40k flavour .
It's dark, it's mysterious and pray to the omnissiah does not look upon your weak flesh vessel and find you wanting.

Also the music is just cold sterile perfection

To much random nonsense a la "surpise minions here", power drain and spawns inside the dungeon. Worst of the dlcs imo

If you don't own a controller do not buy this game
tl;dnr : Do not buy unless on sale or if you are a sadist.

I bought this game recently on a steam sale because i enjoyed its sequel. Looking back now i probably wouldn't buy it again.

First the good parts:
    * This game has a realy nice aesthetic to it and its story telling is immersive. You can feel the struggle of you hero while he spirals down into darkness.* The world is a dark and grimm place like you would expect from a world cut off to the heavens.* You can autosolve all puzzles (but you wont get exp)* Puzzles are mostly fun

Now the bad:
  • The camera is fixed. Its just a cheap way to hide secrets, since most of the time you dont see the entrence of the area where you need to go. This also leads to abysmal fights since enemies are often offscreen or infront of the camera.
  • The combat system: The whole comabt system ist balanced around not getting hit and using your two powers. One can heal you and the other one lets you deal bonus damage. But in order to use them you need to hit enemies to fill your combo bar. When full your hits produce little orbs which you can absorb into either of your power bars to fuel them. If you get hit you have to restart filling the combobar.
Now what happens if you have low HP and low healingbar? Well you are quit ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Minibosses just love when they can onehit you and play their little 20 sec cutscene again and again. Best way to heal yourself? Here fight 5 enemies.
The whole system is flawed at its core:
    • you need to hit enemies in order to fill your powerbars

    • Entering in one of the power modes wont let you collect powerorbs. Gitting hit still cancels the combo

    • So in order to heal you need to fight, but you dont want to fight since you are low on Hp

    • The Damage Power is mostly useless. You want the orbs for your healing power but you cant collect them if you deal bonus damage.
    • While timed blocking quickly fills your combo bar, many enemies have fast unblockable attacks and attack in groups, so if you block one you get hit by another one.

And one of the worst things is, that late in the game you get wings which let you double jump. While this is nice to dodge stuff and usefull for a lot off puzzles they have one major flaw. If you are in healing mode and double jump then you perform a special attack draing half of your max healing power pool and blind all enemies. But bosses for example dont get blinded and most of the time you desperatly need this healing.
  • To many unskippable cutscenes. You died? Here have this 20 sec animation of this creep again and then let him kill you
  • There are little deamons which steal your gear from time to time just to annoy you. But you cant even kill them to get some sort of satisfaction.
  • A lot of charaktes are think you have the memory of a fish and need to repeat their objective for you every 10 sec. Not a surprise that you feel more reliefed than sad when they have a tragic death.
  • to many quick time events

While i beat this game on hard diffculty i did not enjoy it most of the time and just wanted to progress in the story and get it over with
