Before I start, I need to get something off my chest. I am EXTREMELY torn when it comes to this game because, while it is very well done, the people behind did what many would consider to be a very dirty trick with no explanation or apology and it just leaves a dirty mark on the game for me. Thus, while I DO give a thumbs up, it's with a strong suggestion.

I'm aware of some rumors concerning Omos' relations in the past, but that's not what I am referring to here. What I wish to talk about Team Omo literal non-existent public relations when it comes to answering simple questions and concerns. This started, for me at least, three years ago when the game was ported to consoles with extra content that never officially saw it's was Steam-side with no official explanation as to why, from ANY of the people involved with the project. Sadly, the closest I got was unqualified white knights saying what they THOUGHT happened in a rather nasty manner.

It's not just the matter of the extra content that is ignored. There is also the matter of the Xbox port being pulled with no explanation and several pieces of merch that are either requested to be restocked or even given an ETA for a release date that also get completely ignored in favor of posting advertisements, event notifications and fan art on all of Team Omos' social media.

The reason I recommend this version is because of the wonderful modding community, which can mostly be found on a site by googling mods (dot) one. Perhaps the most important mod cannot be found there, instead a google search for "gamebanana Console Port Border ilovetiger" is in order. This mod provides all the extra content the console ports have, while only needed to buy the game during a 50% off sale to acquire it all, as opposed to the $30-40, depending on whether you prefer your media digitally or physically. (To give props to Fangamer, who I went to when I begrudgingly broke down, they provide cool extra stickers and cards with every purchase on top of the paper booklet, which made the breaking suck a little less.)

To put my review in TL:DR style that's so hip with the kids these days: I recommend this game, but only when it's on sale, only with at least the gamebanana mod mentioned in the long review and to NOT give support to the Switch and PS4 ports to ensure further Steam versions of Team Omo games get treated fairly in the future.

Thank you and have a nice day.

Edit: To clear up the possible question one may have: "Why did you buy the port if mods were available?", the answer is simple: A mod that worked was not available during the time when I finally broke down.

It's alright, but it would have been utter perfection if they got Faxjam to make it instead.

Cute game like the Asian one, but one free tip I'd like to give: More cat heads and less cat butts. Also, don't rely on super small cats that can hide behind the UI so easily, it made finding the last few quite a pain.

It scratches the cat finding itch just fine and I have to give props to the devs for showing a riskier part of the cat anatomy.

I do have to say this, though: Due to the cost-content ratio of the "deluxe" edition, you can safely say you donated and can ignore the donation "DLC" if you bought it like I did.

Very solid set of emoji for chats and forum post for just a dollar. Most of, if not all of the classics are here, including U MAD?

Oh, and you get a free game with it. It's pretty good for the price.

Play any other game not made by these devs.

The whole situation with this game in general is so sad, I have no idea where to start. And there's a whole list of places to start.

-This is the devs first foray in this kinda game and it shows in several places.
-The graphics look like melted plastic.
-Glitches are all over the place.
-The A.I. in single player sucks.
-You're screwed out of a full member of the roster if you didn't back this game because Gun Media sucks at backer rewards.
-The community was full of toxicity from day one and the mods only cared about your case if you were a victim who backed.
-The lawsuit situation surrounding this game killed the mod that was probably going to finally make this a game worth owing.
-There're SEVERAL MMOs out there that offer a much better multiplayer experience.

This is just off the top of my head and I'm sure there's more I'm forgetting, but I'm sure you get the point. Whoever insist this game is the greatest horror game ever needs to take their rose-colored glasses off, because this whole sorry state of affairs is an insult to Jasons' legacy. Buy Dead by Daylight or Doom or Last Year or Left 4 Dead or any of the several other multiplayer horror games on this site if you want to have a scary time with buddies, but don't buy this or the upcoming Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I cannot think of a game company that deserves your money less than Gun Media.

If you want to buy this, get the One-Two Punch for consoles.

I really wanted to be able to write a positive review of the PC port. I was willing to look past a lot of things, like STCE being late, and enjoy the game. That's the kind of gamer I am. As long as I get all the gameplay elements in the end, I'm happy. Unfortunately, this is not the case here, minor as some folks will probably call it.

The reason I cannot recommend this port is because it never properly got a DLC pack the console versions did called "Frenemies". Instead, Drinkbox put the cosmetic half on the Steam workshop and called it good. Problem is, those skins had unique modifiers that changed how the game played on consoles that for some reason, never reached PC. This is especially confusing considering the sequel did the same thing but did include it for PC. Given half the material needed was already there, there's no excuse the first game can't have the full package either. I could see putting the skins on workshop as a freebie for people who just wanted that part and had to wait so long, but that doesn't excuse Drinkbox from being lazy. And this was pretty dang lazy.

I do recommend this game. The atmosphere is great, the soundtrack is full of catchy Mexican beats, the story and characters are funny and well-written and the gameplay is a fun combo of metroidvania and light fighter. I just recommend doing so on console so you get the whole gameplay package. Plus, the One-Two Punch pack has a neat manual like in the old days, all the DLC and Bandcamp links to the OSTs along with the added benefit of portability if you get the Switch version.

Just don't give your money to the port that pulled an unbelievably lazy move.
