The game can be frustrating at times, but the forum advice is helpful, and there are strategies for success that are pretty much universal. There have been some recent improvements in the game (I have played before and was especially frustrated when it got too big to micromanage the workforce -- probably mostly due to inexperience and the compulsion to micromanage). That being said, there are ways around most problems, and when you become more familiar with the advanced mechanics, even the disasters can become beneficial (especially meteor showers) and lack of funds becomes a challenge rather than a game-stopper. The addition of valves and switches to your life support is cool, daisy-chaining power sources, and terraforming are all welcome improvements. This game can be very addicting (I just play the basic game, and it is wholly worthwhile on its own). Definitely recommend. Easy can be a sandbox, but expect a challenge even at normal level of difficulty.

Classic game. Tried and true. Good games are always going to be good games, even if they are old.

I would give this game a 4 out of 5. I have only played the first 3 campaigns, but I really like the new look and flow of the game. I think that diplomacy is not intuitive (they do not really allow diplomacy in the campaign, except with independent cities). It should be more obvious if it is intended for you to be enemies with neutral factions in order to advance, since their reactions are hard-coded into the campaign. Other than that (which caused me to have to restart one game) I have thoroughly enjoyed playing and leveling up my cities and characters.
