Early Access Review
The game is in Early Access, yes, but the introduction it throws you into is a nice one that guides you through to the first stretch of open sea. The sea is still wonderful, as it was in baseline Subnautica, only this one's more muted shading really sells the colder environment.

Greatly looking forward to where this game goes from here, and very happy to jump in early to assist with bug hunting. Keep in mind, though, this game is basically a prologue leading to the sea, storywise, and it doesn't have the vehicle numbers that vanilla Subnautica has, at the moment. I wager this will change, as during Subnautica, Unknown Worlds was dropping updates every couple of months.

Honestly, maybe it's because my computer is actually functional, but I've had none of the issues with this game that are apparently widespread from the other reviewers. The game itself is a damn great experience.

No FPS drops, only a couple of connection issues that I attribute to Steam's servers more than the game itself.

So, I'm of two minds with the ocean in general. On one hand, I've been scuba diving and I'm fascinated by many different marine lifeforms. On the other hand, while I wouldn't call it a full-blown phobia, I DO suffer from a marked dislike of deep water, where I can't see the bottom. I know, logically, that there aren't any horrible monsters in the depths, but I just look into the deep and my heart rate picks up.

This game... Actually helps me confront that, since it really does feel like you're in the sea. Yeah, there's hostile creatures, but I think the dissociation between reality and game is helping me confront it.

Seriously though, if you like crafting, exploration, survival, the ocean, or if you're AFRAID of deep water and want to confront it in a less psychological-horror way, get this game. You really won't regret it.
